does anyone have one here..? i saw one at the pet shop and he was so nice but his feathers looked off. and would you keep them in cages, at least most of the time?
Its not even a rainbow lorikeet, its a green naped lorikeet. For some reason it seems a lot of people are getting them mixed up. Rainbows have yellow blending into their orange and their lime green splash on the back of the neck is lower and edged in darker green before the head turns blue. The green naped lorikeet has a very defined lime green patch right under their blue line and a scaley looking pattern on their chest. Rainbows have no orange on their backs.
oh these birds are bloody annoying, i have one, it never lets me sleep, its always shouting, biting through cords stealing my car keys, hiding my jewelry, and eating my grapes,
That's a rainbow LORIKEET not LORY. I have one and they're the most energetic little fuzzballs. We have wild ones around here too, and mine loves to call to them.
Love your Lory. I used to work in the Lory Exhibit at our zoo.
RE: metal object dangling from your bird's foot. 1. Looks like it could easily get caught (can panic trying 2 get free &: have hrt attack, die frm exhaustion, chew his leg off & bleed out, or just break leg). 2. heavy metal poisoning if lead or zinc in leg thingy
Think about getting him microchipped. Vet injects it into the breast muscle, real quick. Avichip is common. Or, an open legband (w/ #s & ltrs).
cute lory. But you need to take that 'chain' thing off of his leg. He can easily break his leg if that gets caught on anything. I also hope that you are feeding him lory diet instead of regular parrot food. By the name of the title, it sounds like you don't even know what kind of parrot he is.
Please have second thoughts about the peice of metal around your bird's leg. Like stated above the bird could break his leg very easily. Also if that is not stainless steel it will eventually get heavy metal poisoning and die.
You need to take that thing off her leg. It could easily get caught on a toy and break his leg. Parrot legs and brittle unlike Falcon legs. A parrots leg should never be tied up. Just and FYI.
my lory wakes me up every 4:00 and he is one loud lory!

Nah, the correct spelling is "lori" is short for lorikeet- the "lory" is another species, cousin to lorikeets.

If he flies away and someone else has him/her, they'll know where it came from.
