a cvt actually utilizes the engines power better than a conventional automatic transmission. if you floor it, the engine will quickly get up to redline and just stay there while it shifts through variable gear ratios to gain speed. cvts usually dont go in fast cars because the performance difference is minimal and they are really annoying if the tachometer is over 3000 rpm.
