  • The whole Babylon thing began back with reggae and the Rastafarian religion which viewed western civilization as the "Babylon" ( evil, decadent empire) that had enslaved their people. Rastafarian religion viewed Ethiopia and especially King Haile Selasse (sp?) as a sort of promised land. They felt that "Babylon" or the west was corrupt and must someday fall like the Babylon in the Bible. Hope this helps a little!
