With the death of Christopher Hitchens, Stephen Fry has become the most articulate speaker for atheism and reasoning the modern world. We must remember the good times with Hitchens and 'pray' for Fry's continuing good health.
@AonaranMan not meant to pick a fight with you, but this isn't an argument against the whole of religion, it's an argument against one religion. I'm an Anglican Christian, and I agree with the vast majority of what Stephen says. I've got nothing against individual Catholics (some of them are good friends of mine), but the odds are that the catholic church is not how Jesus would have wanted his church. It has become increasingly corrupt and self-indulgent, and badly needs to be reformed.
@gwquinn I think the catholic church should have a re-read of what Jesus said i.e. help the poor and the needy, and not spend all your funds on lining the insides of your churches with gold and painting grand pictures on the friggin' celling (no offence Michelangelo).
@UNSCForwardontodawn lol. Yeah, that second commandment's often been a tricky one. Is it not a "graven" image if the god they paint looks kinda happy and is posted on the ceiling, not the ground?
Damn you Stephen, damn you, you’ve energised me to a point where I can’t go to sleep. It’s lamentable to me that the highest words of praise I can muster are so set in religion... but by God what a speech!
Excellent speech, very well spoken as you would expect from a man like this. Strong valid points which were delivered firmly, diplomatically and with a touch of humor. ..
Easily the most eloquent critic I've ever heard of the Catholic Church. How the two people on the other panel can sit and let their minds remain unchanged after such a clear-cut destruction of the Catholic Church (and all religious institutions in general) is bewildering to me. Then again I am bewildered by all religious believers who demonstrate an ability to reason in other circumstances...the bottom line is that that woman should not be an MP; she cannot accept any truth against Catholicism

He made some good points here and there (which is easy to do when they consist of criticisms of the Roman Church), but when he said that he as a homosexual just wanted to love and be loved, I imagined a zoophile saying that there instead of him, knowing that the audience would not clap for the zoophile in their hypocrisy, advocating one sexual minority while oppressing another arbitrarily.
& I wonder why he omits mentioning the body inside the woman's body, as if it's a mere organ.

Stephen Fry, national treasure...
What a man. Eloquent, informed, erudite - he says what I'm thinking, but says it better. How anyone could watch this and disagree I cannot fathom.
