still, I would never buy a house that is next to a power line path, it's just asking for trouble. Hell, in Tennessee most were surrounded by large easements (more than 150 feet) and no one could build near them. That might have changed since then, but california is the only state I've seen that allows developers to build around easements at all.
Just because the house is there it doesnt mean you should have bought it.
Those houses that will be affected by a 500Kv/200ft high line were originally built with a safe distance to a 200Kv/100ft high towers with 150ft wide easement. What safe distance before from a 200Kv/100ft high towers/power lines does not necessarily mean that the same distance is safe today from a 500Kv/200ft tower/power line or for example a 1000Kv/400ft tower/power line or a nuclear power plant.
Those paths existed long before houses were put in, when no one lived in the hills (except maybe in carbon canyon) because Chino Hills used to be pasture land and is the main pathways over to the OC (building lines in canyons is asking for major trouble, wind and the like)
I think they could make a better path (like the very extreme southern portion of CH)
or better looking towers, but they are just making use of their land.
@Shadowpillar First off, they were inactive lines. They were legally scheduled to be removed years ago, but never were.
Not to mention the ones before were not 200 feet tall...nowhere close to that. The law limits how tall you can build ANY structure on a property. NOBODY would have guessed that they would build 200 feet tall...not even the law.
who said they were slated for removal? If it was the realtors, never believe realtors. Realtors have also said that the Chino Prison was due for removal, and the Chino airport as well, and people who live around both of those places complain about the existence of both of those places for the same reason (But it was supposed to be removed years ago!)
Same reason people complain about the dairies, Again people trying to make a buck saying anything to get a sale.
@Shadowpillar There was a Legal settlement agreement in 1982 that stated they were to remove "all inactive existing lines" immediately. That didn't happen until 2010!
