this film is great because it's a multi-stop journey through 1960's stereotypes, one tense encounter at a time - an amazing window into the social order of race, class, gender, age, and in the case of this clip, sexuality. All too realistic in that among strangers (on the subway, in NYC no less), it is easily unlikely for someone to come forward put an end to another stranger's misery - The famed unreported, but highly witnessed stabbing of Kitty Genovese happened 3 years earlier.
