I always liked The Mig, but I became a *fan* after reading his Blood Horse column about riding in the post 9/11 environment. It was a beautifully written piece.
Thanks, Mig, for all you have given to the sport. We became a better sport due to your love of the horse.
richard, your family is so proud of you, your dedication to your dream has been amazing. you are a class act ! now get some rest and enjoy your family, because i know your just getting started on the next phase of your love of horses.
What a professional athlete is supposed to be.Gracious,appreciative...even at the end he touches on advocacy for the animals that gave him so much.A real ambassador for the sport. Just hope NYRA and the industry see fit to have him represent thoroughbred racing in some capacity.Humanity needs more "Migs"....well deserved ovation.
To the greatest jockey and most deserving of a KY Derby win (I was hollering when Wheelaway hit the lead that year at the top of the stretch!)...we love you Mig. We've followed you since the Big A inner track days, all the way up to Saratoga when you were with Fourstardave...we hope you will be able to stay in the industry, and share your expertise with the rest of the racing world. You are a hero to many. We are happy you will have more time with family.
One door closes -- another one opens. Mig -- we love and respect you always, our hearts, thoughts and prayers are with you and your family as you begin a new chapter in your life. The best is yet to come. XO, Susan Kayne & The Team at Unbridled Racing

I am sad to see you have to retire for this reason, but I also breath a sigh of relief.
