What bothers me in most about her Princess Bride comment is not that she doesn't realize that the book is a satire (seriously, DUH), but what she said about Westly rescuing Buttercup from the sands - "He thinks possibly she may be brain damaged, but that doesn't matter, he'll still take care of her. Her brain means nothing to him!"

....Okay, their romance might be a parody, but any guy who's willing to stick by his lover and look after her while she's brain damaged is FAR from shallow.

I don't think she meant to dis the classics or downcast the couples she mentioned. Pretty sure the extent of her blathering was to deny a correlation of Bella and Edward to Buttercup and Wes (or Romeo and Juliet,). And she was saying that Edward loves Bella for her personality, brains, and substance (as for those saying he only loves her for her looks, you clearly don't know the saga), rather than the princess bride, where he loves simply her looks, so she fairly believes.

the problem i have with edward and bella's relationship is that bella is an idiot, and it doesn't bother anyone. all that matters is that she's beautiful, that is her only value. at the end she does redeem herself a little bit, BUT THE FEMALE CHARACTERS ARE VERY WEAK IN THAT STORY. ... her brain means nothing, her personality is nothing to him SO WHILE THEY HAVE THE KIND OF LOVE WHERE THEY CAN'T REALLY LIVE WITH OUT EACH OTHER it's not a great example.
