always said it was funny joe chose strummer as his nom de plume . seein as he never ever strummed a guitar in his life. beat the holy hell out of it yes . strum it never. R.I.P. joseph i miss ya mate.
This was one of the best episodes of Jools that I've seen. Watching him, Tracy Chapman, Warren Zevon, and Angie Stone all on the same set.. just brilliant.
sorry, n,o they did this London calling and i fought the law. does any one know where to find the i fought the law clip with warren zevon because thats brilliant?
I love that line too, but it always makes me sad to think Joe S. isn't around to sing it anymore. What a fantastic talent the man had, right up to the end. "Get Down Moses" is one of my all-time favorites, and his version of "Redemption Song" is incredible.
most people like simplistic pop garbage. Punk, Oi, Ska, Psychobilly, Swing, it's all either too complex or not pop enough to be huge. Pop music isn't music thats good, it's just music that doesn't turn off the most people, doesn't offend anyone or have any real meaning. This stuff is too good to ever be truely popular
I am simply amazed at all the styles and influences Strummer was able to pull off. Everything he did -- punk and hard rock, reggae, folkish stuff, ska, world beat, celtic riffs -- he did beautifully. I think one reason the Mescaleros didn't have more of a commercial impact is that this music is just impossible to categorize. Anyway, great post, and thanks!
man do i miss joe.....my hero....viva the clash...still the greatest band in the world,,,

Joe's wrong. A be-bop gun is the best for a hold up.

I'm flabbergasted that "Rock Art and the X-Ray Style" wasn't well received.
