Well,it's obviously someone who knows what he's doing.Look at the housing blocks .They are perfect 52 tile loops (no intersections). The entertainment is "led" through the loops. The Senet houses are beautifully placed at the corner, between two temples. And with a little help from Bast,it's no problem making super cities like this. The building style reminds me of someone called Tryhard from the Pharaoh Heaven Forums...The only thing that makes me wonder-is the minimal number of firehouses.
@XfStef and apart from me not believing it's on very hard there is always the question of beer in that last city he's shown, now in the original pharaoh it is practically impossible to set up a good beer distribution system for towns above 20k population, I'll have to install myself cleopatra and see if they've done any improvements to the goods distribution mechanics
My point was that the housing blocks themselves, are sustainable at Very Hard--although with a high risk of fire.
He also have the Temple Complex to Bast which reduces the consumption of food, and stretches the services of entertainers, educators and mortuaries. I've played this game on Very Hard, with 52 tile housing blocks myself, and believe the amount of walkers are ample.
I believe the last city is Hetepsenusret, and I don't remember the details of that particular mission, but I do recall it being pretty bountiful in goods and raw materials.
I don't see why you think beer would be any harder to distribute than linen. However he doesn't seem to be producing much of either;nor can I imagine he can import enough for a city, this size.
My guess is this: At the start of the game (1372bc),he transfers all his family savings to the treasury. Then he builds a "skeleton" of the city. He builds some houses in key positions, and starts importing goods to fill up storage yards and bazars. Next he evolves, maybe one house in each block,to Fancy Residence, and starts to suck up to Bast to get the double blessings. Finally, when he feels everything is working smoothly, and the bazars have enough,he places the rest of the houses.
@trond3trond take a look at the number of tiles... I count 20 in length and 11 in between which adds up to a whopping 62 tile loop. I've experimented with that number and there seems to be an anomaly in the walking distance algorithm. Generally a 50 or 52 loop should be no problem for any of the walkers, however, once the distance starts going up until 60 tiles the walkers will complete the loop only 2 out of 5 times (which is odd, and demonstrates that the algorithm works with a variable)
@trond3trond now when I tried with 62 tiles the walkers made it all the way across less then 1 out of 5 times. I'm telling you something doesn't add up about this 20 palatial estates housing loop. But I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt and will test his build myself this afternoon. Oh and the details of Hetepsenusret are that you can only import about 80 barley and 40 beer per year in which case going over 20k population can prove a challenge even on normal difficulty
Yeah,I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt myself. I actually just assumed he had built 52 tile housing block, which would have guarantied the houses a walker every third turn. Anything above that,on Very Hard, seems implausible.
I did a thorough count too,but found it to be 58 tiles, not that it helps. It's hard to get a good view of a full block, and maybe they vary in size.
@trond3trond Alright...so there is more to this 62 loop then we previously anticipated. I did his 20 x 11 loop (62) and surprinsingly enough the only problem I had on normal difficulty were with giving enough goods to all the houses, I'm guessing that only building 1 house and letting it expand on it's own is the best way of building the neighborhood without having to dump in massive amounts of commodities in the beginning. When I switched to very hard some of the houses gave me problems ....
@trond3trond ... gave me problems with entertainment and desirability. I should also add that I tested this on the Sandbox where I didn't have Bast as my Patron God but I still kept blowing festivals on her in order for the blessings. Switching to very hard also made the gods a lot more unstable and all the blessings that I usually got from them went down to about 40%. Now regardless of everything else this build has one major flaw, and that is that you need huts to power your industry ....
@trond3trond ..... as the massive amount of statues usually results in no space left for roads leading to your industrial areas. All in all I give this build a 9.5/10 for creativity regarding his approach on the entertainment problem. My current record for an all pal. estate housing block is also around 20 houses, but I used double bazaar and water supply for it. I will continue to look into this, and hopefully I'll be able to do a better layout, one that also helps with road access.
Well,he does have a few blocks with houses that are not manors or estates, and I see that he even have some crude huts mixed in with the industries.
From what I can see,he also has two bazars in all the big housing blocks, and they are all upgraded,so that's all together four walkers delivering food and goods;and the upgraded water supply, means it has frequent walkers…
...I also notice some of the service buildings are differently placed in some of the blocks, which may mean that he's going for optimal exit and entry points--which might help.
So,did you check the risk overlay and all the other overlays for that matter. Did the fire columns go dangerously high? Did any of the service columns drop to zero?
I still have a feeling many of the houses will loose some kind of service after a while--not to mention, catch fire.
@trond3trond No, there was no fire, regarding services, I only had resource needs, which is explained by having 2 bazaars, but then there was something about entertainment overcrowding on the very hard difficulty, which could indicate that they need a second senet house. Anyway, in that case then my 22 pal. estate cross shaped neighborhood is still better, although it's harder to fill the map with it since the shape isn't as easy to integrate.
A block only needs one working Senet house, but it might be,that you need more overall entertainment points.
It struck me,to actually read MrGerdhal's comment on the upload, and I was right--it IS indeed a city modeled by Tryhard's housing blocks. You can download some of his finished cities at HeavenGames.
I really appreciate your "research" on this;especially since I've switched to Mac,and am no longer able to play this game ☹.
there is no way that's on very hard, other then that, great job

My guess, from what we know now,is that the houses at the very best, are unstable, and that fire is imminent--or that he's downright bluffing us.
I would really like to hear what the uploader himself have to say about this. Even if he is cheating,I'd like to know what he did.
Looking forward to hear about your findings.
