I was drafted into the RAF from 1960 to 1962 and we were still using many pre war vehicles including Ford flat head V8's. They were very quiet and smooth compared with the old Leyland Hippos but used a lot of fuel. At least you could wear a wrist watch when driving a Ford which you could not in a Leyland as they would shake them to bits. Happy days!
