That might also explain why his face just before the lightning strike looked like he was trying to brace himself. I doubt it's overconfidence, considering how he seemed very angered when he shouted "Snake".

Well if you go back to MGS game from PS1, the story goes with stating that Solid and Liquid were the twin clones from Big Boss himself after the government took his remains. Liquid is the one who explains this to Solid Snake right before they fight each other in hand to hand combat on top of Metal Gear.

This is by far one of the most brutial ways to die in the Metal Gear saga, just looking back at the games, no one else shared this much grueling fate, Liquid basically died temporarely by a heart attack, and Solidus stumbles off the federal hall building to his death. But as for Volgin, i must say he is the most brutial initial antagonist in the saga, as far as i've seen. So, im glad he recieved a brutial death in this game because it does indeed work out, a brutial death for a brutial man
