I too remember watching this show on CH17 WPHL back then. Out of Ultraman, Johnny Sokko, and The Space Giants, I liked this one the best. Love the opening and the opening theme for it. Surprised that it didn't air in this country til the late 70s. Thought that I saw this on CH17 WPHL here in the Fall of 79.
I can't believe that I forgot all about this opening. Me and my little brother used to try to walk around like those boots, and the walk into that box (we used the fridge- close enough?). Chicago, Channel UHF 44, wire hanger antenna's for a nine inch B&W TV!
@preo2 Yes! 44 had the best shows...Space Giants, Johnny Sokko, Prince Planet and Ultraman. I remember Gigantor...but I'm not sure if 44 ran that one.
AHHHHH!!! I luv it!! This was my childhood too. I never missed an episode of The Space Giants. (Channel 11 in New York, then in Philadelphia Channel 17) Thanks for posting!!!
Brings back memories. Weekdays on WPHL channel 17 the great entertainer, in Philadelphia. The Space Giants , Ultraman, Johnny Sokko, Speed Racer, Marine Boy. Couldn't wait till after school.
The Original Transformers. I remember watching this on cable on WTBS channel 17. Funny have far we have come with special effects and cgi but I really loved the old stuff as it was more rewarding. Just like the Exorcist still rates as the top horror movie ever. When she bends backwards and crab walks still makes one turn on the lights before going down the hall
i watched these shows living in N.J. Speed Racer, Marine Boy, Godzilla, Kung Fu theater. the kids now adays don't know what after school programming and Saturday morning cartoons ment.
I used to love this, johnny socco, ultraman. great childhood memories up untill 2nd or third grade when it went off the air. I practically forgot about it almost immediately after it went off the air and so did every other kid. I still remembered very little about it, I just never mentioned these shows to anyone. I never heard anyone talk about it either. after watching it again here I can see why. I couldnt get past the intro. I was like "what did I ever see in this"
I always thought that fricken specterman had the worst suit compared to everyone else like ultraman and goldar and meko/gam I also thought meko was gam for a long time.. also thought the coolest thing HANDS DOWN was the boy turning into a rocket...man !
I loved this show when I was growing up. My afterschool TV lineup consisted of Spectreman, Speed Racer, and Ultraman.
The TV station in my area (Muncie, IN) would sometimes substitute Ultraman for this show. TV Guide never gave me a head's up on which show would air so, I would tune in to make sure I didn't miss a Space Giants episode.
Mid 70's KTVU in Oakland Ca, part of the Captain Cosmic program...along with this there was Ultraman and Star Blazers...My life would never be the same afterwards!
Loved this show! Early 1970s. It was shown on UHF Channel 17 in Philadelphia right after school let out and came on about 3:30 p.m., which is why kids had to rush home to catch the next episodes.
How well I remember, I grew up in South Jersey, but wasn't this shown on Channel 29 and Ultraman/Jonny Sokko on Channel 17 (hosted by Wee Willie Webber).
I loved this TV show growing up, but for the longest time forgot about it and then when I started getting flashes of memory about it..I couldn't think of the name of the show. I asked all my friends and they looked at me like I was crazy. I could remember Rodak and three Robots with a whistle lol. If anyone knows where I could possibly buy these..pls comment back..TY
Ahhh another musty oldie that i first saw in the dawning years of cable tv on WTBS (later to be TBS).. I can remember coming home every afternoon to watch this show! It was like MST-3000 for a kid... AWESOME!!!!!!
i could agree more. i could only remember a family that could transform into rockets so i google it first. That's how i got Space Giants. I remember on the school bus having to rush home to see it everyday. Back then we had no cable tv. regular channel and the channel (UHF) remember the other dial (knob). unless you didn't have a black n white tv.
Thank you, thank you, thank you. Some of my happiest childhood moments were racing home after school, busting out the butterscotch krimpets and watching Space Gaints and Ultra Man.
In the SF Bay Area in the late 70's there was a tv host called Captain Cosmic with robot 2T2, and they showed Ultraman, Space Giants, Star Blazers... and I think it was Speed Racer or Battle of the Planets. Weird how Ultraman didn't have his name changed like all the others!!
Awesome, just as I remembered it! I remember this as a kid when it aired on WPHL-17 in Philadelphia, about 1978. This came on weekday afernoons along with Ultraman, Johnny Sokko and His Flying Robot. I couldn't wait to come home from school to watch this! Thanks for posting this!
I've been trying to find the name of this cartoon for years. Now I can actually tell my friends the name of the cartoon and have them utube it. Thanks this brings back so many memories.
Add me to the list of 30 somethings that remember this how fondly. I was in Georgia in 78-79 and watched this as well as Battle of the Planets and whatever godzilla movies I could find. Thanks so much for posting this. Helped me remember the name of the show and bring back so many fond memories.
Been trying to remember the name of this show for years! I watched this all of the time as a little kid along with Spectreman and Godzilla, ect,. But I have fond memories of this show!
i did too. i was born in the 70's i use to love watching this show and one day i type in the family that could transform into rockets and it came up. thanks for whoever posted this oldies but goodies.
I'm near Phila. too! Remember what happens to Rodak's minnions when they died? Ugh! What was that stuff? Forget the monsters, to a kid, a featureless black humanoid figure that spoke in that over the top, side-to-side manner was the stuff of nightmares. Goldar: The First Transformer.
Yup! Goldar WAS the first Transformer. I tihnk Hasbro and the company who made "The GoBots" were inspired by this classic show!
As fas Rodak's minnions, when they died, that stuff looked like aCream of Wheat, Grits of Applesauce. After watching that as a kid, I wondered why I couldn't eat Cream of Wheat, especially after it got lumpy, LOL!
Ahh. That's right! :D Was it 36 or 46 that had Spectreman? I must've got my rubber monster shows confused. It was nearly 30 years ago, so my memory is a bit fuzzy.
I can't believe I found a group of people that loved this show as much as I did as a kid. I got chill bumps just looking at this video. I also wish they would release this on DVD.

WOW, I have been looking for this show for ages. I would see it after school I grew up in the Philadelphia S Jersey area. Rhodak scared the crap out of me when I was a kid.
Watched this on WPHL Channel 17 back in 1978 along with you. Great series. I used to run around with friends in our schoolyard pretending to be Goldar, Silvar and Gamm.
You aint the only one who remembers watching this. Same area as you....SJersey as well. First the Mighty Heroes, Speed Racer, then this. Long live WPHL 17 in Philadelphia.
I used to miss the first ten or fifteen minutes of this show as I raced home from elementary school... amazing how many other people posting here had similar experiences. And yeah, I looked forward to being home sick from school so I could watch the whole thing...
Remember that, back then, G-Force was called Battle of the Planets and aired on ABC?
I was an absolute fanatic for that show when I was a kid. In first grade (1978-1979), I got out of school at 2:25. Space Giants came on at 2:30. I went home by foot and lived a half mile away. I ran home every single school day to see Space Giants from the beginning. That's how I ended up becoming a distance runner.
I just read the other comments. I might have been wrong about the time it came on, but it was definitely just a few minutes after I got out of school. I was really tripped out to see that other people used to run home from school to see it too. It looks like that might have been a national trend. Space Giants probably impressed early elementary school kids more than just about any other show there has ever been.
way to go. i could recall maybe being in the third of fourth grade, running home, to catch the beginning of the show. i use to love this show, i wish some of the old shows whould come back on television, and remove some of this crazy new stuff.
you can say to me where you obtained it?? please ^^ or you can upload to Veoh (point) com, in this page you can upload all the serie and has a option for download the video...
I used to love this show! Just like everyone else I would run home after school and watch it on TBS. Now they run Saved By The Bell...can't say it is an improvement.
Yep, this and Ultraman were on the top tier of entertainment as a kid in the early 70s! They are a tad corny nowadays...cough,cough! ...but still totally cool and fun to watch.
I used to watch this show every day after school too in Atlanta on WTBS. I loved this show, but it looks terrible in these clips. It's weird what we are amazed by as dumb children.
I remember watching this show when i was 2 and 3 years old but I couldn't remember the name. My parents used to think I was crazy when I would try to describe it later in life! LOL. They thought I was talking about a cartoon.
Hell yes I remember this. Best reason to get sick and stay home from school so I could watch it. Only in the first grade back then, and then came SPECTREMAN! Woo Hoo.
Ahh, the fond memories of watching this show back when I was in 1st grade after school. Just like kirneh001, I saw it on the Captain Cosmic Show with 2-T-2. The one thing I couldn't understand and thought was kind of "disturbing" was that Goldar (being a robot), had hair..haha. Why??
1977; West Michigan finally gets cable tv! This show aired on "channel 44" which later turned into TBS. At that time, the only "pay channel" was called "channel Z", event though there seems to be no info on the internet to back that up. To tune it in, you had to turn on your "Z-box"! It later turned into "Showtime". If anyone knows of any info on "channel Z" on the web, please send me the URL!
I remember seeing this around 1980 as part of a kid's show called "Captain Cosmic and his Wonder Robot 2-T-2", out of San Francisco/Oakland. The outer show itself was a cheesy vehicle for host Bob Wilkins, but this was a great thing to watch-- they also had StarBlazers and G-Force.
I used to watch this on TBS as well. I'd get home school make toast with blackberry jam and watch Space Giants on my Sylvania Solid State B/W TV. I watched it at 4:05pm. Good times!
i also remember spectra man, ultra man, and shogun warriors. i have ultra man dvd box set, the first series. and this show i remember came on channel 44 chicago not 32 wfld. i even remeber this japaneese girl, in the second graade in the late seventies, that said she played gam on the show lol maybe she did.
oh yes i used to watch this in the late seventies. on a chicago station. when did this show originally air, late sixties early seventies. in japan and america. and other countries.
SPACE GIANTS! I am so thrilled to have finally found videos of this. I've been looking for Space Giants for YEARS. I remember watching this on TBS when i was just a little kid--4 or 5 years old. It was my brother's and my favorite...I can still remember some of the music.
I remember Spectreman too--wow, for so long I thought I was the only one who watched these shows. :)
The only time I saw Ultraman was as a preview attraction at a drive-thru theater for a Godzilla (I think) movie.
I was obsessed with this show when I was a kid. I can hardly find anyone who remembers it! Thank you! (I think it came on just before Gilligan's Island on TBS)
Both of you guys should be proud of yourselves for having seen some of Japan's best tokusatsu programs that hardly ever get any mentino stateside in later years.
Awsome vid ! saving it to my favorites. Thanks for your comments on The Bosco & Sodi Pop Show much appreciated. Keep on sending films my way and ZOOT ZOOT ZOOTY! peace out z

Why??

"mighty morphin power rangers" is a bit of a cop on this show; it even has a "Goldar"!
