  • What's the opening song?

  • nice

  • See if you can spot the self-important blowhard... Nice demo, even if it was through a tiny little itsy-bitsy amp!

  • FYI, I have been a Trower freak pretty much since Bridge of Sighs blew my mind. I almost got this drive, despite I am sick of 3 knob ODs. I just got a Wampler Ecstasy last wk and it brings me all the tones I expected from the RTO and it has so many more tone options and tweaks. It has 3 diode modes (gets any OD config) bass inject before clipping stage, and totally cleans up. On 3 channels I have a clean Trower/Hendrix Vibe, a dark voiced JCM just at break up and a high gained super Bridge tone.

  • I have a great 3 channel all tube amp, I like pedals to enhance the voices and bring tones no straight amp can do. Just FYI., tubes are not all about distortion, even a clean channel will make any pedal sound better as the tubes function like a compression sponge and smooth out the harshness of pedals making them become more merged with the amp itself. I just prefer having watts, they allow and do things no watts cannot attain. It is all about tone options for me. Low watters are 1 trick ponies.

  • Do you really expect it to sound like Trower through a Dr Z little amp?? A dark voiced JCM800 or the new JVM amps Robin is using. It is bright and loose without fizz gain to make the Marshalls sound better. On a little amp seriously, I hate little amps, tinny and midrange. Run this though a decent power head and a 4x12 if you want to really here how it was made to sound. GMD we love ya, but all these pedals through the little amps just does not really represent what the pedals can do.

  • @CarvinTone Well...what i think is why would you get a tube amp if you are going to use a pedal anyways? It's just what you beleive and not what it is...you like one thing...some people like other stuff. I for one don't like any pedal...except for wah's maybe...i don't even see the point.

  • @thehornypuppy because you do not know what an OD is for or how to use one.

A little watt amp that just clips out early cannot get the depth and balls a half stack does and if you want anywhere near the real Trower sound, little amps might work in recording because that is all illusion anyway. As for an OD, a little amp just clips out by itself, what good does it do to have an OD on one. We all love the work GMD does but seriously an OD on a little amp is useless.

  • crocodile shoes they're crying to

  • I'm not hearing Trower tones. Maybe its the amp or settings, but that tones is too thin and bright for Trower. Sounds too quacky/spanky.

  • could you try getting a clean amp setting?

  • i found gmd: search (the state of the vintage guitar market) there is a video by premierguitar with gmd (Eric Whorton) in it

  • This must be from when Robin was going through that strange Partridge Family phase.

  • I've had this pedal for over a year and its an extremely versatile pedal.I own a Keeley Tube Screamer also and I have a hard time deciding which to use because both pedals have such great tone. You can get very close to Robin's tone on this pedal but like anything unless your the artist you will never sound exactly like them.Overall its a great pedal and I would recommend it to just about anybody that wants a wide range pedal that doesn't mutate the tone of the guitar,

    Works great w/humbuckers

  • That Dr. Z is one hell of a great amp.. I just bought this pedal after your demo.. trhanks !

  • all these overdrives are starting to sound exactly the same

  • I still prefer the OCD v4 with the Fat Boost 3 in front. Like your TBB it gives it some more body. These are best used darker w more amp push less gain.

  • This really is an awesome pedal. for some reason al the demos do not do this justice. No Offense at all GMD. But it's allot more watery and all the notes just sparkle.

  • @hardrockme24 , you are right hardrockme24 , he always plays the same thing with any pedal , no offense GMD !! Robin Trower is a great guitarist , a psycho legend !!! best regards !!!

  • Actually the thing that impresses me most is the sound fo your Dr, Z - WOW!

  • I did check this pedal out but wasn't impressed. I purchased a Love Pedal Plexi 800 pedal, I'm very happy.

  • How about Trower vs. OCD shootout!!!

  • @bluesfuse +1

  • jack black u rule man!

  • Robin Trower overdrive whats next Fulltone Kenny Wayne Shepard overdrive? I am joking no offense.

  • @phatsound1 Check out KWS's pedalboard, he's hooked up to an Analogman King of Tone, amongst others

  • Reply 1.I used several Hot Rod Deluxes, and a hot rod deville. I find them a terrible sounding amp. Woolly boomy bass, ice pick stabbing highs and a muddled harsh mid, the mid sounds similar to a half open wah. If you put a digital reverb through it it will just cloud the sound, but put one through an amp with a clear mid and the clarity is there.

  • Is this better than an Ibanez Tube Screamer? Can anyone help, I just want to overdrive my Fender Hot Rod Deluxe amp. Overdrive, distortion, call it what the fuck you like. I just want it to sound loud and mean for rock. Fucking difficult as I play anything from beatles to Metallica. Am I asking too much or is there such a pedal that can do all I'm asking. I don't care how much it costs, just want it to kick butt. Do I need a new amp?

  • If you play too many different styles you could think of getting a couple different pedals. The distortion you get from your amp by itself should be enough to cover more of the blues and classic rock, and for the metallica you could think of getting a Digitech Metal Master, its a pretty solid and generic high distorion pedal. Hope I could possibly be a little help.

  • Reply 2.I bought a second hand Mesa/Boogie F50 1x12 combo and you can get most sounds, its got such a clear sweet sound that if you use pedals they sound at thier best. The eq knobs change the sound a massive just by breathing on them, the Fender eq knobs do next to nothing! Get a decent amp first, you might not even need pedals,

  • why dont u try Fulltone OCD it will work nice with your amp and is very versatile i use it with gibson les paul '98 and a fender strat '96. and it sound good for me.

  • 10 million times better Hertsman50 ! Nothing to do with a TS

  • rockbox boiling point.

  • I like YOUR reviews, zero BS, always nice. Only talk when needed. And you play awesome!

  • sounds good !

  • Trower plays with his volume and drive all the way up---this guy never let's us hear that!!

  • And Trower uses a MARSHALL!!

  • Watch a Robin Trower video then, needledick. And if he's such a "waste of time" don't watch. Simple.

  • 2:25 volume and drive are dimed...

  • This guy gives lousy demos----what a waste of time---never lets us hear how a cranked not breaks into feedback

  • just makes it louder =I

  • hey gearmandude, do you think this cleans up better with the guitar volume than the OCD? ive got an ocd, but kindoff want to buy this...

  • That sounds nothing like Trower. It's more like the Yardbirds.

  • Well if he played a Trower song, then it would probably sound like Trower. The pedal, itself is pretty sweet.

  • @paigerockson Probably because this pedal didn't exist in the 60s. He's using this these days though - i'm not sure if it's a sponsorship deal or something else.

In my opinion trower's sound was better in the 70s.. Most old greats are using a lot more preamp-drive today than in the 60s and 70s.

  • @paigerockson

I think you're right, but the Yardbirds rule !

  • Nice boots

  • Great gear review videos. I have a Fulltone OCD version 4. DO you review any Uni-Vibe clones? Fulltone of course makes some good ones but you should give a Retro Man Uber Vibe a spin! His Silicon Germanium Hybrid Fuzz (Sybil) is way cool too.

  • affect pedals after it.

  • What's the impedance in/out? i've heard that Fulltone stuff like OCD can really affecty

  • I ran out and bought me one after hearing the Strat demo. This thing is even better in person.I found 3 eral sweet spots right off.

Paid $215.00 for it incase you need leverage buying. I dindt even haggle prob could have gotten it cheeper but this thing rocks. I may retire my bbplus pedal. This pedal does deliver some incredible tones.Even fully cranked the notes all come through clear and the tones I never heard b4 are great.A must have.

  • HANNAH! cool gotte get my self a strat and RTO

  • humbuggies knobbies

  • Sounds like the OCD version 5 to me.

  • yep...will do! thanks for posting....GMD

  • Isnt the OCD more of a higher gain pedal? ... I would love to hear this one next to a Zendrive.

  • Nice, can you do a comparison with the RTO and the OCD?
