Apple offers a very expensive RAID card for the Mac Pro which gives it the ability to do RAID 5 and such. However the Mac Pro can do RAID 0 and 1 (and 10) without this card.
@CineGolem From what I understand, you don't *need* a RAID card, but by having dedicated hardware for that task, it will be faster. When RAID is done in software, the cpu has to do all the work. I haven't tried it myself yet, so I'm not sure if there is enough of a speed difference to justify the hefty pricetag of a RAID card.

Thanks for posting this, it;s tretty amazing, but at one point you mention something about a RAID card... I'm confused, so you need one or not?
