I was into City Boy way b4 ELO...Dinner at the Ritz was on my stereo for years, in fact i wish it was rereleased and it wont need any touching up as it was a great sounding lp...take a walk on the water..very heavy very humble
Yes, this number actually sounds like ELO. Never thought of that. However, City Boy at its best has more nerve and intensity than ELO. To me its one of the greatest late 70'th bands.
I remember the days back then . No one still knows who you are. My brother died, I gave his friend the city boy albums. Now I want a few songs. And the one I want, people are selling it for over 100. 00. Thats allright. I can remember alot of the songs.I wished I could have seen City Boy Live
I heard by accident while watching a top of the pops on youtube from 1978. I thought this was really catchy.
So eventually i heard 5705.
Then I decided to go ahead and by the Anthology album. After listenin to the CD over and over again, i became hooked, and now own ALL the albums on CD
Well just to share something you may or may not know, apart from the fact that the drummer (Roy Ward) is a mate of mine, he also provided the vocal for the popular version of 'Lion Sleeps Tonight', and before you say it, NO! 'Tight Fit' was just a frontband. Roy and chums recorded it whilst he was doing session work. He still gigs even now, and his voice is still one of the best you'll ever hear.
City Boy is a mix between 10cc and ELO. I have all their albums on LPs but havent found them on CD . I really enjoy their music and I hope people will start posting more music from them here.
I used to have a crush on Steve Broughton too - actually he doesn't look that bad compared to when I see other crushes from the same era - anyone know where he is?
I got 'the day the world caught fire' from some family member back in 1979. I think I was mostly enamoured by the cover back then (I was 7). I seem to remember liking it, but I don't have a record player, haven't had one for a looong time, and I never get around to aquiring one. Been trying to get their stuff on cd for a while, but alas, no luck. So this is a great treat !
i saw city boy two times in my hometown karlstad then 1978.marie sweden

The most highly underrated band in the world. City Boy rocks. They're ELO meets The Beatles meets Little River Band. They should've been much bigger.
Steve Broughton (Lundt) is incredible
