  • wow they sound horrible at this performance. :(

  • @ace0415 It's because Ben brought in Samplers that they had never used before live, and it wasn't coming in the way they thought

    - it was bothering all of them like crazy

  • Seen them in Jax a couple of weeks ago...great show.

  • Conan looks really weird without the beard.

    Looks so young.

  • Washington State Flag, very nice representin'.

  • Beautiful song makes my heart sing the happy la la's! Awee I love warm music it always outweighs it's cry me a river foundation counterparts, liebe dich Death Cab!

  • This just makes me beyond excited to be seeing them live in August.

  • @clitical64 Going to Rimac, too?

  • @clitical64 I'll be there at the Greek tomorrow! So excited!

  • I love Media Outlet Online for doonnlooading f.r..ee s0ngs like this! You all should try and search it on Google.

  • exactly like the fucking track on the record. no difference at all. amazing.

  • 1:25

Didn't expect it to sound so out of place. Haha these guys are so good live!

  • WA state flag on the keyboards, representing our state extremely well.

  • I LOVE Death Cab For Cutie :)

    <3

  • Proud to be living in Washington..really..they are the only reason.

  • @Blindside462 Dude, really? Nirvana and Jimi Hendrix were from Washington too, now that's something to be proud of, come on!

  • @Blindside462 Seattle is one of the best places to live for music... its where indie and emo came from... you are so lucky!

  • ahhh the love the washington state flag!!

  • Portly Ben was cooler.

  • The keyboard player looks like Kenneth from 30 Rock.

  • I do believe it's true, that there are roads left in both of our shoes.

But if this silence takes you, then I hope it takes me too.

    <3

  • its not individual rock its independent rock lol as in not "depending" on a major label to promote them and wipe their ass etc.

  • its not individual rock its independent rock lol

  • They are magically good live.

  • People are starting to say that Indie can become a genre because it contains a distinctive sound that other artist don't sing. Though the fratellis are labeled Indie-Rock so Justin Bieber would be somewhat the same, which would sound wrong. So this Indie confuses me. Well now their ranking artist with Indie as genre. Educate me.

  • The greyhound part is awesome.

  • I know REM, and DCFC is way better IMHO.

  • the soul of REM lives on in the body of DCFC

  • I love DCFC! Great songwriters.

You might like music if you like them.

  • One of my favorite albums. The lyrics are thought out and written so uniquely, but I can feel exactly what they mean.

  • Fuck y'all! This band is amazing live, they play continuous shows. They just seem a bit tired.

  • Death cab for cutie, The postal Service & The walkman just awesome

  • 1:25 fail

  • they sounded really great live. wooow...

  • omg this song...is fucking...incredible this just reminds me of the days when I only watched music videos on TV from like 3rd grade til 8th haha

  • Ben looks like a fool in this bah. And the guy who plays keyboard was annoying me through this performance. Great song though.

  • One of the coolest "new " songs I ever heard.....til this live version. I wish I never heard this now. BRUTAL!!!!! The singer can't sing.......and the kid in the hoodie???? They should have been dropped after this performance.....

  • I wish ben gibbard still had the haircut he has in this video... he looks like way more of a nice guy...

  • yeah evergreen state :D

  • You know, I'm from washington, bellingham where these guys are from, I've watched them become bigger than ever, and I still can't get into them... Its just seems kinda Too much YES influenced and cliche lyrics. Not too mention, most of there songs are loves songs and are all pretty formulated..

  • @vinnienickoloff90 INFLUENCED LYRICS? dude, i don't even know where to start :/

  • This song shows more than just a bit of influence by Yes.

Too long ago for most fans here, I know, but check it out it if you don't believe!?

  • :) Washington flag. <3

  • EXXCCCEEELEENNNNNTT :DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

  • so awesome of them to help tegan and sara.

    great band. great people

  • absolutely beautiful.

  • its awsome, except when he goes for "paraparappa"

  • who cares what its classified as... its genius

  • agreed... they are the definition of indie and somewhat alternative. But I like translanticism better than plans... barely better.

  • Jason McGerr is so awesome. His simplicity is refreshing.

  • That album is one of the only albums where i can just listen through the whole thing without having to keep skipping songs. And, you know before i actually sat down and listened to the album i used to bash the music interests of this guy who went to school with me because his favorite band was death cab for cutie..

  • Sounds like a little studio music combined with the live performance

  • PUNKROCKVIDS? Death Cab is SO punk.

Ben Gibbard pissed on me at a concert once, and then bashed his face against the PA. It was awesome.

  • haha, PUNKROCKVIDS.

Death Cab is SO punk. Ben Gibbard pissed on me at a concert once, and then bashed his face against the PA. It was awesome.

  • i dunno phatfarmer215, i think this song can be easily interpreted

  • maybe they are good to write songs but not much to interpret. That's it, very good catchy song tought !

  • 1:26 woke me up lol

  • I freakin love this song, and I am so disappointed to hear them live.

  • Freaking rad WA state flag, lol... never seen any one represent like that. Just another reason you guys are fucking cool.

  • PUNK ROCK!

  • If theyre smokin what im smokin then theyre pretty fucked up.

  • Really good live

  • i love it, mr. george representing for our great state of Washington :)

  • I prefer cds rather than live performances< because you can"t here all those special details that the artist puts in. Oh well, I love this song so I don"t mind <3

  • @asianfoodlover123 It really depends on the artist. Some artists like to change it up and get more charismatic live and some just rehash what's already on the cd. I'd prefer the album version of this as well

  • this is good songwriting

  • Who is the pianist? Does anyone know?

  • Chris Walla.

  • Realy cool song, cool band, but benjamin a little bit fat!

  • He's lost a lot of weight now. Look at the uploader's videos of them at Soundstage three quarters of a year ago.

Excellent song, but not the best performance - it feels like the chords went out of sync at the end and they did their best to not let it show?

  • Not their best ... At allllllll.

  • Go green guy :D

  • Seems like he had cold or something! :)

  • OMG what was that sudden outbreak of 'parapparappappa..' :o That's my favorite part of the song man! :|

  • fuckin righteous

  • killer!!!

  • @IskallaKillen haha funniest thing i've ever heard. lyrics don't apply to talent? melodies? well mr. iskallakillen you are sorrily mistaken when you say that dcfc have "no actual talent". at thou deaf?

  • @IskallaKillen THOU SHALL BE DOWNVOTED INTO OBLIVION FOR SUCH BLASPHEMY!!! >:(

  • Conan & Death Cab!!!!! Well..... I guess I'll wipe off my stomach and pull up my pants. Giggidy, giggidy!!!!!

  • i love this band!

  • the guy on the piano seems high lol

  • As much as I love this song and DCFC, this live version sounds like poop, they are all seriously off form.

  • i like it.

  • I love my Washington State, the land of diversity and inspiration, and depression makes all this good music pop out like pop corn.

  • Death Cab for Cutie = favorite band

Conan = favorite late night tv host

    Awesome.

  • i think you mean 1:26... becuase that sounded like a dying cat

  • Yeah he should have just sung the chorus twice this performance.

  • haha at the beginning of the video you catch a glimpse of the Big Show

  • They sure have changed as a band in a short amount of time.

I can't decide if I like them then better, or now!

  • 2 thumbs down? What the fuck?

  • When I tell people I listen to indie-rock music I always get confused looks. I then say "you know like Death Cab for Cutie" and they say "Ohhh, yea their cool". I then think "shit, I need to hang out with new people". This album changed the standard I had for music.

  • @SaraStorm1 well fucking said dude!! they are my fave band ever along with ben's other projects

  • @SaraStorm1 Haha I love everything you said.

  • @SaraStorm1 indie rock isnt a genre, you mean only bands that come from independent labels???

  • @SaraStorm1

A band that plays on a major record label, isn't really an "indie" band anymore. However you still need new friends if they don't know DCFC.

  • @SaraStorm1 You should check out Everything Goes Numb by Streetlight Manifesto...that will change the way your standards stand.

  • @SaraStorm1 technically indie is short for individual rock and means they dont want any labels or anything, Death cab isnt really indie

  • @SaraStorm1 haha, I get the same exact thing! I'm actually kinda glade, though, that Indie rock isn't overdone. :)

  • @SaraStorm1 hey at least you know someone who knows Death Cab for Cutie, whenever I mention them to someone the say "what hell are you talking about." Man no one at my school listens to good music, NO ONE!

  • ils ne sont pas punk..

  • ils sont indie. ils n'ont rien comme le punk. c'est ridicule, n'est-ce pas?

  • wtf punk rock videos? hahahahaha

  • punk?? i see no tight leather pants and eyeliner.

  • What on earth do you think Punk is?

  • The main singer looks like Dweigh from the Office rofl

  • haha omg i was thinking the same thing!

  • With all due respect, I've never heard Ben sing bad before aha. They've progressed epically!

  • their not punk their indie rock

  • yes

  • AHH I LOVE PLANS! :D

  • did I read correctly that death cab was classified as punk?

What are people smoking these days?

  • @hypnomesmerize2 they came from the indie punk background. All you guys Check out The Weakerthans too.

  • @hypnomesmerize2 obvously crack

  • Comment removed

  • um there definately not punk

but they are GOOD as HELL

  • gibbard rules, always will, hes a really nice dude in person

  • great band. but their not punk rock lmao. idiots.

  • haha well he usually can sing...i think this is a pretty old video from when death cab hadnt been around for too long. Now they've been together for over 10 years and are much better live, i love ben gibbard's voice most of the time.

  • haha wow, the little acoustic lead part was a little bit off at the end of the song.

    did anyone else catch that?

  • Comment removed

  • the sampler cut out and then came back in off beat at the end. it's back by the drummer. he's running loops. that's why it sounds so out of time at the end.

  • i miss this ben

  • Your riht ben has been cocky witrh the fans and there too famous. but chris walla still good and mcgerr and harmer. but not gibbard too cocky

  • how so...im not that in tune the death cab + i live in toronto

  • Awsome song.... 5/5 i love it..

Does anyone know the song that plays in the end? with the punk rock vids little clip? if so tell me thank you =)

  • its refused, new noise.

    but refused are fucking dead.

  • awkward how much different they are now.

  • Haha for a sec i thought the guitarist or keyboard player was wearing an Evergreen Terrace hoodie. i was like what?! Nope. Evergreen Tennis. lol

  • i thought the exact thing and was like "wtf!? no way!", tehn i saw th "Tennis"...lol

  • I luv Chris Walla he comes across as so little and cute but both of them come across as fine upstanding gentlemen who like to sing with their eyes closed (sometimes)

  • WOW, I got slammed for making a crack about Ben's live voice.

Maybe I should have specified more...

It's just gotten a lot better.

Back on the Plans album, and the ones before it, he wasn't as comfortable, and it came through in the live performances.

Didn't mean anything bad by my other comment.

    I love Death Cab!

  • I totally see what you're saying, but if you think his voice got hollow here, it was worse back in the Transatlanticism days and before. It's funny, you can kinda chart his voice's progression from where it seemed hollow, to some of the recent live performances where it sounds just as full as the albums. I can understand somewhat, singing in front of any amount of people does something to your voice sometimes...or does something to your mind which affects your voice.

  • This is weird: I just found this and his voice seems pretty full here and it's from 2000. It must have something to do with when he tries to go high, or who knows what, really, but I know I've seen what your talking about from shows featuring songs off of Transatlanticism.

  • ben is married to zooey d.

    so envious

  • love this song. love this band. love the flag :) washington represent!

  • i saw them on july 5th at the bowl and theyve definitely come a long way. ben is way skinnier and he has perfected his singing voice for live performances.

  • yeah, because ben being slimmer has A LOT to do with his live performance, get over yourself. Death Cab rules, always has, and will continue to do so.

  • why did you assume that i meant ben's weight loss affected his voice. i was just saying that as a whole they have become more comfortable playing in a live setting, ben specifically. he breathes better and thats a definite sign that he isn't nervous. cause in this video hes all over the place, and i don't blame him, they're on national tv. asshole. and somebody said he was sick and you can tell but was he sick on every other tv performance ive seen them on, "get over yourself."

  • just playing devils advocate yeah being slimmer could affect voice. better shape means he might have better cardio better air movement and breathing could make for better singing. just a thought

  • i think he had a cold here.

  • He might have, but it's like that in most of the live shows.

He always sounds so out of breath and like he's trying to force it way too hard.

It's not as light and breathy as on the albums.

  • has ben lost weight since this video?

  • tons

  • i think its hard to get more harmonious than at 1.30. its so beautiful.

  • not that this isnt a great performance, but i saw them live this spring and they just seemed much more intact and sounded fuller than they do here.

i guess that's come with so much more experience performing..?

  • this is an incredibly tight live performance, looks like they've just finished plans when they did htis.

i saw them live and they didn't play it as tight as they did here. jason's drumming is especially sick here

  • I gave you the thumbs down...totally on accident. I'll try to check back later and give you like two thumbs up, sorry! Mis-click.

Anyways, you're totally right...I bet they must have just finished recording. I remember seeing them live twice and it never sounded this tight...good, but not as pro as this. This was their big press tour, too...so they probably made a conscious effort to play it perfect so people would want their album.

    Which is freaking amazing, btw.

  • lol haha no problems on the thumbs down man. and yeah dcfc, and plans, and all their other albums rock! wish other bands could be as lyrically insightful as well as melodically aware as these guys.

  • Are you people deaf?

  • i dig these guys i dont really listen to this kind of music, but im getting to really like these guys

  • I LOVE! them, I really want to go to one of their concerts. I haven't made it to one yet but I will soon.

  • This is Death Cab at their best... Just raw youthful talent

  • What's up with 2:22?

    What was that?

  • theyve come so far from there first album

  • ben looks like carl wilson from the beach boys

  • haha omg he totally does!!! thats awesome!

  • i freaking love this!

  • walla take me in your arms tonight

  • la dura, suenan bien mal...estuvo bueno el carrete parece, jaja. Igual DCfC la lleva... ;)

  • he is just better on his higher-pitched songs.

look up cath or even long division for a good live sample.

plus he has just gotten better over the last few years live

  • i agree i saw Death cab live and he wasnt that great and hes not that great on this video, but i think death cab needs to rediscover there roots and play smaller shows

  • Sounds fucking weird as well in some parts, like he's doing a pitch-shift on himself, like a pitch-correction program

  • Ben Gibbard is one handsome chap.

  • Mmm tubby rolls of fat

  • yeah, its called ormus!
