Never whined once regarding il2 cod,however this brought my meager system phenom 2 quad@3.2ghz,amd hd6870,6 gigs ram....to a bloody halt regardless of all recent patch updates.The game just looks awfull on low settings and there was no reason not to use the wings of prey engine which looked fabulous and had serious optimisations which could be played on even the modest pc...went back to il2 1946 up3&hsfx 5 which in my own opinion is the better sim...with respects sir.

I have had a few sound bugs and it doesn't run quite as well on my rig but its just so much damned fun. I really just want to be able to land on an aircraft carrier. ;)
@Tastaalex I honestly don't know, I am not a computer genius, sorry :P I just know the very basics. I guess a Mac 2008 + should be sufficient to be able to run this game, atleast on low settings.
It was released march for the euros and some americans if they got it at stores or an online store that already had the copies. The new American release is going to be tommorow and they only did it like that because the europeans have a bigger buy rate for this game so their languages were implemented first. They did kinda screw up with bugs though. So the american release is supposed to be patched and amazing. Like always :p
@ScotishChris I think you should be fine, but you might have to reduce some graphics to get good performance. I'm not all that familiar with the ATI cards, but I believe the 5850 is quite powerful. Don't sue me if I'm wrong, but I think you should be able to play this sim quite nicely. :)

Press m 2x to turn off the mirror in the Spit (you will gain 10-15 FPS). It IS buggy, the sound cuts out frequently, 109's take forever to get in the air (engine running at max, but the plane does not want to move for a few minutes).
I have pretty well the samehardware setup as you and the shadows, trees and buildings all shimmer and flicker like mad.Also the ground at a certain distance. I also seems like Anti Aliasing does not work at all. Makes the game look so terrible i couldn't be bothered playing.. I spent a full weekend tweeking with every concievable setting in game and in Inspector.Nothing makes any change to the game...
@stribo I have actually not played for a few weeks, and I think another patch arrived the other day (steam just said it had finished downloading IL2:CoD, which means a patch or at least an update of some kind).
I'll try to look at it this weekend.
By the way, I hope you haven't applied any of the player-made "fixes" that remove mip-maps and whatnot, because some of them truly screw up AA and landscape detail to improve framerate.

This game is absolutely the most photorealistic sim out there at the moment, and in my opinion, the most photorealistic game of any kind anywhere. This is absolutely rediculous for 2011. I cant even imagine what might be next.

This game looks great in the air and over the ocean, but when when you fly over land, terrain is just subpar. I mean, it's not bad, but it's way beyond the other visuals in the game. It could do better with a more natural coloring -I don't mind what Oleg says, those colors just plain suck.
@AJaromir1 Not quite, but it's pretty advanced. In this video, I'm not flying with complex engine management enabled in the realism settings. With it on, you have to take lots of care not to ruin the engine, and you also have to manage the different radiators to cool the engine properly, as well as the normal throttle, mixture, prop pitch you'd expect. It's quite nice, even though very difficult to fly with full realism in a dogfight :)
Easiest way os to buy trakir. Or you push down the scoll button on your mouse and press and hold it as well as press and hold the right mouse button and move the mouse. It's relitively easy

@Mantock100 No, I wouldn't. When I have problems with a game, I try to figure out why. I ask for advice, try different tweaks and tricks, test different drivers for hardware, maybe upgrade hardware if necessary and most importantly wait for the initial patches. I've bought quite a few games on release date and struggled in the beginning (SH4 for instance), but I NEVER spammed the forums with 15-20 threads on the same subject with the exact same arguments over and over and over... That's whining.
How does your land look so dark green and natural whereas mine looks like a water painting with washed out neon greens and yellows ? I have all graphics on the highest setting. Close to dusk or dawn ?
@crs2379 Yes, it is late in the afternoon in this recording (to get the beautiful shadows both in cockpit and in the terrain). I might put up a clip from the middle of the day for comparison. It i abit too bright terrain, and too yellow I think, even if I've only been to England once in my life and that was in spring. :)
@smilingbeast It isn't a render. I used Fraps. Ofcourse, this isn't the most demanding area of the sim (countryside with few planes), but I am seeing good to acceptable performance most of the time, as long as fraps recording isn't running (it slows the computer down a bit).
Cracking video ,one of the best posted as far as i am concerned. They should've used videos like this to sell the game in the first place,all was asked for was ingame footage.Thank You :) I just hope they can mod the Merlin engine to sound like a Merlin,then imagine how it would be.

Anyway, recording with Fraps takes away quite a bit of the framerate... not to mention I locked it at 24 fps for this recording. Without fraps, this area runs at about 35-40fps. London is more laggy and runs at maybe 15-20 fps, but I don't plan on fighting the battle of Britain directly above Piccadilly anyway.
I do however have some micro-stutters every now and then, but this I know will be adressed in the upcoming patch for vegetation and buildings.
Hey you AA seems to work. For me it doesn´t matter it i choose 1x AA or 8x AA. No changes :(. Have you changed anything in the Nvidia control panel?? Because this doesn´t work either for me.
@freestyler1879 Nope, Nvidia control panel says "Application controlled"... or whatever it says in the english version (mine says Programstyrt, because it's in norwegian)... Anyway, it's the default option.
However, AA doesn't work quite as I thought it would. It seems to work when looking from the cockpit, but not so much when using external camera. Not sure, but it will probably be adressed in upcoming patches and Nvidia drivers :)
I tried out to fly over england at max settings and except the area over london it was very smooth. but if i add some planes my vram is very fast exhaustet (i have only 1 gig). sounds like i strange code-bug. have you heard something when they will upload the next patch??

@MegaChristaras I have not played much of the campaign, I think its pretty linear, you go out fight and return home.
Online is different, there are AI planes flying around doing there thing along with actual players, it extremely fun.

Anyway, recording with Fraps takes away quite a bit of the framerate... not to mention I locked it at 24 fps for this recording. Without fraps, this area runs at about 35-40fps. London is more laggy and runs at maybe 15-20 fps, but I don't plan on fighting the battle of Britain directly above Piccadilly anyway.
I do however have some micro-stutters every now and then, but this I know will be adressed in the upcoming patch for vegetation and buildings.

Hey you AA seems to work. For me it doesn´t matter it i choose 1x AA or 8x AA. No changes :(. Have you changed anything in the Nvidia control panel?? Because this doesn´t work either for me.

@freestyler1879 Nope, Nvidia control panel says "Application controlled"... or whatever it says in the english version (mine says Programstyrt, because it's in norwegian)... Anyway, it's the default option.
However, AA doesn't work quite as I thought it would. It seems to work when looking from the cockpit, but not so much when using external camera. Not sure, but it will probably be adressed in upcoming patches and Nvidia drivers :)

I tried out to fly over england at max settings and except the area over london it was very smooth. but if i add some planes my vram is very fast exhaustet (i have only 1 gig). sounds like i strange code-bug. have you heard something when they will upload the next patch??
