the waves itself are not dangerous, but if they lose control over themselfs they could get smashed against the wall, which is pretty much dangerous... So I'd say, best just keep away from walls or rocks when swimming in waves!
id bring my board and have som fun with the backwash...thats actually not dangerous it'd be more dangerous if there wasnt any backwash cause then you would pressed aganst te wall
people have swam accross the english channel, if humans would die from this then we'd have been fucked a long time ago, not to say that it COULDNT be dangerous, but its unlikely (seeing as how im almost 100% sure they survived :P)
Depending on your swimming skills. Ppl can die or be hurt in a lot less, and live and be fine in a lot "worse". Like anything, be aware of your own limitations. And realize "things" can always happen.
It's not really that dangerous. The waves are pretty small, not breaking, and the fact that the seawall is reflecting the waves back out to sea means that it is unlikely the swimmers will be washed against the wall. I love how the waves being reflected outward from the seawall meet with the incoming waves and make that big upward splash of water. Looks like fun!
Regarding the comments about danger - anyone who surfs will tell you these are not huge waves, and a strong swimmer would not be in danger here. Sorry
i think is is danerous because if one of those waves came by and picked up one of those man and forced than down in the water so that they couldnt come up for air.then next thing u know u end up seeing there body floating above the water!
ok this is simple, No its not Dangerous at all (Have you considered tiredness from the cold and/or cramp from the cold water) Ha! thats a new one (If this was the north sea then maybe in winter you may have a point but due to the south current been in north Wales 2nd July 2008
to do not be stupid July temperatures for around there are +15c are temp would be 16c to 25c The North sea in DECEMBER IS +10C -_- so no thats the hypothermic shock point Dis-credited Next huge waves seen bigger in a pond
waves tumbling you and hitting your head,(Unlikely with this been a wide open flat beach) undercurrents hitting sea wall (not a chance in hell the beach can not support underwater currents or Rip currents as there known by) limbs getting caught on sea floor (Sea bed how would that happen here?the waves are hitting the wall and then pushing them away from the sea defences the worst thing that could happen here is they get pushed out 20-30 meters then have to paddle up to the beach up the coast
Always cracks me up what non-ocean people consider "huge waves" and "dangerous". The surf is running maaaybee a very weak 2', and whatever power is negated by the backwash from the wall.
Cold? Yea. So get out when you get cold.
I love to bodysurf at my beach after a hellacious storm. Complete maelstrom, full wetsuit, hood, good fins, and swim out into it. Came in one time, and the Lifeguard was driving by. Told me that I was "reported as a ship-wreck survivor, trying to make the beach"..lol
I wish idiots like the poster would leave the rest of us to our fun. I was kitesurfing in 35kt wind today with 3-4 ft wind chop. He'd have probably shit his pants and died of a heart attack if he'd seen it.
@Darkmouse20001 Please don't call me an idiot behind your keyboard. Come to my house and tell me. And besides, it's a free country and i can post what i want.
@D41H4T5U From a man that thinks 1 ft waves in Barmouth are dangerous, who is also sitting behind his keyboard? It is a free country, you can post whatever rubbish you like, its just annoying that you'd send a video of someone having totally innocuous fun to a newspaper, and then post it on youtube claiming that the subjects of your video where idiots for having a dip. Bah, I can't believe I actually replied to that.
@Darkmouse20001 I didn't send it to the newspaper. My boss just bought a paper in and it was featured in there. And if you read, the title of the video is "dangerous or not, you decide" I'm not saying it's dangerous, i'm not saying it's safe. But if the people who patrol these sea's every day saving lives decided to feature it in the paper, then maybe just maybe they know better than you?

I've been swimming here when I was a kid and the currents are mega strong, today health and safety would prevent us. What they're doing is potentially dangerous but lots of things are, just walking into the sea is in some places - you dont want to tread on a stone fish or get bitten by a blue ringed octopus but you shouldn't let the 1 in a million chance stop ya!
This is the problem in Britain at the moment anybody doing anything slightly risky and its the end of the world no wonder loads of our kids are so unhealthy and fat - whats the point in living if you cant feel alive?
great fun reminds me of a similar thing I did with a buddy in wales last year!!! I'm still here too!!! did these guys survive?? must be dead its sooo dangerous lol.
@nervil246 are you fucking blind? they are 1 oot, no bigger than 2 feet...the only reason why they would seem bigger is because of the backwash that forms off the wall. DANGEROUS? LOL!
@kaYboi8o8 they are clearly bigger than 1 foot ya idiot. how can the waves "seem bigger" they dont seem bigger they ARE bigger. It is dangerous the under current could suck them under the water, the cold could give them hyperthermia as they arnt wearing wetsuits, and they could get pushed into the solid stone wall- hard.
@nervil246 You must be a blind bat to think these waves are big or dangerous, they aren't bigger than 2 feet at all. They are in the range of 1-2 feet but thats it. The waves are weak period, if you hit the wall thats your own damn fault for hitting it since the waves are clearly weak. You hit the wall you are fucking retarded, thats basically like if you walk and you fall on your face due to your own stupidity. Secondly they wouldnt be in the water without wetsuits if they could get hypothermia
@nervil246 So i completely owned you in the debate and you have nothing to say other than retort to petty insults?
There is nothing dangerous about these 1 foot waves, the only dangerous thing is if none of them could swim which it seems like they know. Good job on losing the argument, bad job on not putting enough effort into it.
@nervil246 You proved no point other than the fact that you proved nothing. You called these 1 foot weak waves with no real threat "dangerous" and you still didn't prove me wrong yet, until then...you made no point but nice try.
@kaYboi8o8 From my own personal experience of surfing in the north sea, and living in a seaside town where there is very often stormy seas, i know this is dangerous and that these waves are indeed more than 1 foot. I've also witnessed stupid gullible tourists visiting my seaside town, thinking it clever to "dodge" waves as they crash over the sea wall,
@nervil246 I really don't understand how you can think these waves are bigger than 1 or 2 feet. The backwash from the wall bumps the waves splash up but by no means does it make the actual wave 1 or 2 feet. Let me ask you, how big do you think these waves are??? If they were standing level on the water, i know its not possible but just imagine it..do you honestly think any of those waves would go higher than their knees?
@kaYboi8o8 , I’ve also (unfortunately) witnessed yet more dumb tourists doing this ^ in the stormy seas and consequently ending their lives due to getting sucked under the water by the swell and drowning. Therefore no matter what you believe, opionion or factual, my belief that what these men are doing in this water is dangerous, is not going to change.
The only danger is the experience of those in the water to read the conditions - which you cannot tell simply by trying to judge over a video. If they are experienced enough to make the call to play around in some whitewash, then the only danger is something ridiculous like a shark attack (unlikely - unless your living on the West Coast of Auz these days!). Judging from the video, looks like their having fun to me! Good on them.
Anyone saying this isn't dangerous has clearly never been to the ocean. These aren't bathtub waves here, this guys could have easily been washed to sea.
Definitively NOT dangerous. This is a meeting beetwen the wave of the ocean, and the other one from the beach. At the meeting, the forces are just vertical, and very smooth. You are just lift up. That's very impressive, but as strong as a small wave
This is scary stuff and very dangerous. This is the sort of day when lifeguards should be present. and if so they'll have to risk their lives saving these people. Big waves and strong currents means that these people were lucky to survive. I agree fully with the title of the video.

2. I bet you do like to "eat faggots" but I suspect you like the US version better.

@D41H4T5U
1. Hillbilly is one word, you fucking pea-wristed douche spanking limey bastard.
2. I bet you do like to "eat faggots" but I suspect you like the US version better.
3. You use, way, too many, commas, which are used, to separate, dependent, and independent clauses, not just, to create a retardedly long, run-on sentence. Comprende compadre?
