He does have a point there about the way we are drive daily. Through the gaseline car, they got time to improve their technology. Through time this technology may need some adjustment to be just like a gaseline car. Over all, I see that this is one those technology seem pretty promising in the near future.

Great review but, seriously, who wants an electric car? I can fill my car with diesel in less than 5 minutes, and get over 600 miles to a tank. Ok, electric cars are cheaper, but not for long journeys. Electric cars will never take off. Biodiesel and ethanol/hydrogen cars will be the future. There's just something about "having an engine" that men want.
id rather stop at a gas station and them replace the battery pack which would be faster then charging ,personally dont want to be pluging my car in at night either ,i imagine the cost is that of a hot water tank which makes up most of my electric bill not alone having it doubled, but yeah i think we will get there its just having the right foundations for it
Wow I’m not in to electric cars because I think great more slow drivers thinking about their pocket and the “environment” but Nissan did a awesome job with this car you know the tech part would I buy one no but the tech makes it stand out from engine cars and would properly convert a lot more people to get a electric car great review man it’s got me thinking
It's all good that the car produces no emissions itself, the process to create the electricity still creates enough emissions!, And if you turn the radio on, do you lose heaps of horsepower? ;)
Recommend researching the power plants that produce electricity. In Ireland, for example where this review has taken place, and Nissan Leaf is for sale - Airtricity have 40% of their electricity generated from renewable sources. In addition all Nissan Leaf owners have the option to time their cars to charge during the night when electricity plants are producing electricity and there is little demand, whereby they are using these spare Kilowatts, in making the electricity company more efficient.
Does it run on magic electric that doesn't need to be generated by burning fuel? If not, it's not zero emissions. It's merely another horrid small Nisan soon to be parked across two spaces in supermarket carparks and causing traffic jams when its 65 year old owner doesn't notice the lights have changed.
You do realize that all car manufacturers are now realizing hybrids or full battery operated electric cars? in 2012 and 2013 there will be 30 models to choose from. Some have PV panels and produce their own electricity to charge their cars. In addition power company's encourage EV owners to charge at night, where the electricity is wasted if not used. Many international power company diversify their generation of power with renewables, ask them!
If you have allowed your car batteries to go flat, you will have other things to worry about! However when the car is out of power, the car puts itself into park/neutral and if the handbrake requires releasing there is a manual release available.
I know it probably just cause I grew up with this.. But the drivers on the right hand side of the car, while driving on the left hand side of the rode.. makes much more sense
Funny it got European car of the year 2011 and World car of the year 2011. Those guys are hard line motor heads and loved it. These guys on those boards are made up from all major countries around the globe. Take a look at the prius, thats and ugly car!
Home chargers are part of the purchase in all countries where its sold. Then then garages (regular fuel stations) are also putting them (fast and slower ones) in to attract EV owners (and they charge a small fee for charging). The power companies / commercial business also provide rapid (25min) stations
it is great to innovate such as capture breaking energy but here in Houston, going to work in this city, no amount of planning will help you, you simply wont make it to work. it really is a great in helping electric technology, but inefficient for a car, electric on our grids in the US, please, we still argue about clean coal vs Nuclear while we have rolling black outs.
@mrbit10 for many well over an hours drive is needed in this city going well over 100 miles a day. Also the performance of the battery of which i do not like Nissan's response "it varies" as a Nissan owner (pathfinder) it "varies" when i have 4 passengers, accelerate too much, drive too fast. Please, if i have to plan, plan, plan on top of everything else ha, sure seems more like a diet regime than a car.
80% of the worlds daily compute is less that 40miles. Your right though EVs are NOT for everyone. If your daily compute is 100miles, get a hybrid like the Chevy Volt.... Do remember MPG on a regular car varies also.
The price per km is not only what you pay on electricity or gaz but also the rest value.
On average people replace there car every 7 years.
You get still a reasonable price from a regular car after 7 years, as a secondhand. Nobody will put an extremly expensive new battery in a 7 years old car.
For this car the battery is about 40% of the total purchase price.
Your electric car has then NO economic value, only maybe the price of scrap. What is than the price per km ? And more expensive to buy!
I know a guy in the UK who took ownership of a Leaf and sold it for more than he paid for. Demand is high, 40,000 orders. The US and soon UK outputs will resolve the backlog. Nissan US said the battery is $10,000 if replacement is required. In addition batteries ate 100% recyclable, meaning the LP02 (Leaf battery) will have a market when people more to the LP04 (300mile range). Your right, the EVs are pricey however!
i was looking into one of these. but there aren't any charging stations here in canada at the moment. And Stephen Harper hasn't exactly been known to be environmental i'm afraid.
F fuel economy. I'm not ready to drink coffee for 20 min every 90 km, which means every hour. 180 km'll take like 2 hrs & 20 min = 60-70 km per hr. I'd better take a train or a bus and save €29k + the rest "car" expenses.
was the any point adding the blur on the plate at 0:25 when you can see it at 0:27?? and why is the no letters on the plate? in the UK we have letters and numbers
I love the way everyone calls this car zero emissions, it's like the Toyota Prius, the battery and electrical production mean this cat is more environmentally damaging than a V8 Land Rover Disco. Not so good now, is it.
See my earlier posts on the zero emissions. In addition the gentleman on the video tells us about the recyclable batteries (100% of them) and the rest of the car 80% recyclable. What other mass produced car in the world can claim this?
Many gas stations in US, UK and Ireland, Portugal, France etc have installed charge points.... + all EV owners have home charge points, just like charging your mobile phone :-0
Nissan have 10years of testing this battery technology, they publish it as a 10 year battery. However they know it will have a live of 15year in all cases. After 10years of 1 "fast charge" per day the battery storage capacity will have dropped down to 80% capability. Not bad considering 19000km costs about €230 per year and next to no services cost!
see my earlier post on emissions. For every gallon of petrol delivered to your car, I wonder what the carbon footprint is of getting it to your gas station?? 8 times the burning of it.... thats what I have read.
i like the style of that review. i like that you don't just give us the tech specs but you also speak about the things important for the ordinary consumer
very useless here where i live because there are no electric chargers around here, i also cant charge it at home because i live in a building(new york city).
They are still expensive but if they come down in price then I would say many people will make the switch certainly if you had a two cars it would be perfect for a run about.
@coolfreak1mannan actually the US is in the majority as most countries drive on the right side of the road with their cars steering wheels on the left.

@LACK78 Really? I thought Europe, Asia & Australia drove on the left (which would be the majority of the population), and that US, Mexico & Canada drove on the left (not sure about South America or Africa).
This would be interesting to find out.
This was definitely a different kind of video from you... interesting to see.
