I'm a NIN fan. I loved Johnny Cash's version, it was a perfect swansong for him. This cover has also a lot of emotion and energy, it is a very good cover, unlike the rest.
This shit sucks. I'm not going to argue about it because nothing anyone can say could possibly convince me of anything except that they raped one of the best songs ever written into an ugly, trendy, castrated mess.
one of the greatest cover's ever made. Hundredth is so dedicated to the genre and is a powerhouse of a band. so much love put into this. its amazing. <3 HUNDREDTH
@xTexasxHerox You have no clue if I have talent or not. this band is just another trendy shitty band cashing in on "hardcore" being in these days. maybe that's why you like them so much mister x Texas x Hero x. your argument is becoming increasingly weak by the way.
@jokerxcore they really aren't.. i would understand if you said that about another "core" band, but these guys really aren't.. just saying, no hostility.
Johnny Cash choosing this song as a song to cover, says that he was aware of common heavier music (Nine Inch Nails.) Since he liked that song enough to cover it, why would anyone think he would not like this? Music is music.
Everyone is going on about how immature this is, but this is who Hundredth is. This is a cover and not a carbon copy. Hundredth has reached out to so many kids, it's unbelievable. Everyone has become a sheep and narrow minded because mainstream media will tell you that this isn't music or it's just 'yelling.' This is raw emotion. This is pain. This is what music should feel like. Sending chills down your spine with every note, making you feel what they feel.
Fast melodic hardcore with lots of breakdowns and dissonant parts. For fans of modern hardcore like The ghost inside, Counterparts, Parkway drive, Comeback kid, Another breath, Converge etc...
the original version of the song is by NIN and its a pretty weird song (good but weird) and this is a really good interpretation I think. Raw emotion.
i remember the first time i heard it i fell in love with the some then saw johny cash sing it i loved it people arguing who mad it better an now hundreth made it and i love it. people hating it because its different . go listen to the three versions its the same song song made differently... well what i see is one song 3 different meanings all 3 style ha different aspect of emotions.
Cover is rad. NIN does it flawless, Cash does an excellent cover in his own genre's perspective, Hundredth are badass and were right to cover this as they did. So much emotion is in this.
@TheSunnyfront so would have Nine Inch Nails where this song originated covered by Johnny Cash (also known as one of the greatest icons of this earth....ever, to live....ever...)
Good cover, musically. Nice of the band to let that mentally handicapped guy "sing" the lyrics, but the screaming sounded awful compared to the good work everyone else was doing. And inappropriate. Also, the band wasn't hardcore enough to swear? Surprised they didn't credit this as a Cash cover. There are so many other NIN songs they could have covered where this style would have been appropriate. Mr Self Destruct and March of the Pigs comes to mind. Hurt is just not a song that works in punk.
@syntheticgod8 this is not a NIN cover. It's a Cash cover. And good job on trashing the vocalist. They're honoring a great musician by recreating a great song in their own style. Nice critique.
@Buddyism1 First, it's "you're". Second, I'll admit that I did not know they were a Christian band, but that just makes the idea of a NIN cover even funnier, since Trent Reznor has never been big on God. That aside, I'm not hating, I'm giving my honest opinion. Did you miss the part where I said I liked it, except for the mutilated "singing"? Maybe I don't "get" this particular sub-sub-genre, but screaming the lyrics in a melodious song (well-performed, I'll add again) makes no sense.
@syntheticgod8 you sound like a complete fucking idiot. you should probably get your facts together and actually know your stuff before you try to state an opinion with as much negativity as yours. sure, you said the musical aspect of it was good, and then trashed a great vocalist, got the source of the song wrong, and then named the wrong genre all together. sooo why did you say anything again?
@DavidOverboard First, great vocalist? Nope. Screaming atonally the whole song isn't singing. Second, it's a Nine Inch Nails song, not a Cash song, even if they used his altered lyrics. Third, I read about it on Punknews.org that referred to them as a Hardcore band, so correct them if you're so keen. Fourth, as a NIN and a music fan, I know Trent Reznor can sing (and scream *when appropriate*) better than this guy. The complete idiots are the ones with one sentence crap reviews.
its not meant to be singing you douche! they're a hardcore band. if you don't like screaming dont fucking listen. a lot pf people like this type of music and would disagree with you. if you wanna hear singing go listen to a song with fucking singing in it =/////
@syntheticgod8 You're an idiot. Why did you ever watch this video in the first place? And their vocalist is a really rad dude, you insulting him just makes you seem like that much more of an ignorant prick. Please GTFO.
@WeAreHumannequins I watched it because I heard about yet another cover of this song. How would I know if it was any good unless I listened to it? I'm sure he's a great guy in person, I just hope they release this song without his screaming over it. Screaming for the sake of screaming does not make one hardcore. You're just mad because you haven't realized you listen to terrible music yet.
@syntheticgod8 You find it terrible music.. It;s always hard to accept people have a different taste in music.... We ain't disrespecting your taste either, so just stop arguementing about what music is terrible and what isn't... We ain't hating on you, show some respect to us either then...
@syntheticgod8 Sooo you find the instrumentation in this song to be good, but just because there's screaming, you think the music is bad? Hahahahaha, you're probably one of the most ignorant people I've ever come across on YouTube.
Why is everyone hating this? This has a lot of emotion & dedication! Better than any other typical pop cover made by childish post-hardcore bands. Such a legit song wich was covered well. what kind of video did you expected? A party video? They are doing it naturally, they are showing themselves how they really are. this is hundredth, this is the music they make with all their effort, if you don't like this, don't talk more crap & get out of here. Can't stand people bashing on my favorite band.
Put aside the fact that this is a cover, and the original and Johnny Cash' versions are very different, I think this song would get a lot less criticism if it was their original, imagine if they had written it. Try looking at it from that perspective.
I lost the times i have listen or playback this song in my car, computer, iphone, mp3.. this is probably the most meaningfull, melodic, ripoff hardcore song.
Why do people argue about the dumbest things on these videos? This song is obviously amazing, if you dont like the video then leave and dont say anything...it doesnt make sense for someone to show hate towards a great band thats worked hard to get were they are and they deserve respect for it.
All of the people calling this Screamo, STOP. Also, all of this arguing over who's version is better was pointless before it started. This is a CHRISTIAN Hardcore band(Metalcore to some people), and one of the better ones out there. Cash, NIN, Hundredth, and any of the other people who covered this song all had there go with it. Leave it at that, and let ARTISTS have there fill. It's not like it's really hurting anyone.
This is terrible. Screaming has its place, but it isnt always the most powerful choice. This is totally outta place. It reminds me of the KSE cover of Holy Diver. The guy did great singing the song until the middle part when he went all screamo. WHY?
How could anyone not love this??? This song has so much power and emotion, and I feel the video captures that perfectly. The focussing in and out almost tells the story itself, of how much in life we lose focus. HUNDREDTH is genius, and they truly did this song justice. Made it their own. God bless HUNDREDTH.
the beginning is bland but i'm feeling the rest of the song... keep doing your thing Hundredth and keep representing good ole horry county and the grand strand.
@toyboxphilosopher their the same lyrics? The song was written by Trent reznor of his heroin addiction and then Johnny cash did his own spin and died like 6 months later.
Johnny cash had more of a powering effect though in my opinion. The video made it 10x more emotional.
@ENTERSHIKARIJUSTIN Johnny Cach changed one lyric "this crown of thorns" instead of "crown of s***" as NIN had it. and I agree about the Johnny Cash version: Hands Down the Best Version
I appreciate their use of Johnny Cash's version of the lyrics rather than NIN's, however it would have created interesting discussion had they used the other version. Not my favorite song, not as good as Johnny Cash, but respectable. I really appreciate the use of one extended shot rather than the camera jumping around. No hardcore band should need to use camera tricks to appear more chaotic than they are.
@TheBobaflex I understand your point of view, and you don't have to take my opinion into account, bu: I don't think that it is a "pointless lyric" I think they used it to describe something specific and it had meaning in it. J.Cash also had meaning in his version. I also don't believe it's fair to assume that a Christian band won't use a swear word if it more accurately and honestly portrays what they're trying to get across. Also, though I don't like it, there alot of ppl who like the NIN more
This song is a flaming bag of dog poo, right down to getting all over your shoes when you stomp it out. Trent Reznor should drive over to their rehearsal space, with the ghost of Johnny Cash, to slowly torture these guys to death with Neil Diamond records. Can't you hipsters find something better to do than "making" music, like, say, juggling chainsaws or wrestling alligators?
Way better than NIN

@toyboxphilosopher their the same lyrics? The song was written by Trent reznor of his heroin addiction and then Johnny cash did his own spin and died like 6 months later.
Johnny cash had more of a powering effect though in my opinion. The video made it 10x more emotional.

@ENTERSHIKARIJUSTIN They're not quite the same lyrics. Cash's/Hundredth's version changes "crown of shit" to "crown of thorns."

@ENTERSHIKARIJUSTIN Johnny Cach changed one lyric "this crown of thorns" instead of "crown of s***" as NIN had it. and I agree about the Johnny Cash version: Hands Down the Best Version

So good, it has so much power and emotion behind it.

@toyboxphilosopher i dont think this song is really chaotic to begin with?

@toyboxphilosopher they're a christian band, they're not gonna use that 1 pointless lyric. Cash made this song his own, and so has Hundredth.
Even though NIN were the creators, nobody listens to their version now. LOL

Also, though I don't like it, there alot of ppl who like the NIN more

and i also hate how the cameraman thought it would be a good idea to go out of focus.

1:49 they should've made the whole song like this. the first minute and 48 seconds are kinda boring.
killglassjaw 2 months ago
This song is a flaming bag of dog poo, right down to getting all over your shoes when you stomp it out. Trent Reznor should drive over to their rehearsal space, with the ghost of Johnny Cash, to slowly torture these guys to death with Neil Diamond records. Can't you hipsters find something better to do than "making" music, like, say, juggling chainsaws or wrestling alligators?

I'm a fan of hundredth, but they should have sung the beginning, screaming just sounds off until it picks up.
