Wow! That is really trippy because I was in that room with you. Were you also there when Live and Let Die was first shown? How about the Exorcist? I had to leave during that one. The music alone scared the heck out of me. when I left and walked home it was a very spooky gray winter sunday and no one was around! They were all in the theater.

  • @erniehmp

Does anyone remember when Svengoolie came to People's and everyone was there and he introduced the movie and threw out some rubber chickens?

  • @erniehmp I knew a friend that saw The Exorcist and he said every time he heard a noise it freaked him out. I had not ever seen that movie till I rented it around 199-something 1991 maybe???

  • Very sad indeed. I went to shows there in the early 60's. I remember the all day horror shows on Columbus Day school holiday, and other all day cartoon shows where all the kids in the neighborhood were there. Those were the days.

  • It's sad to see it go, I have great memories of that theater.. Who remembers double features. I use to go during the 80's and even then it was kind of rough, we all would pitch in and pay for 1 ticket and sneak a couple of friends in the back door. I know that's bad but it made great memories for a couple of kids from a great neighborhood.

  • People's Theater and Peoples snack Shop right next door! Remember that? They served ice cream and banansplits. Anyway, when I was a kid, you couldn't find anyone in the whole neighborhood on saturday or Sunday, because they were all at People's watching movies for 50 cents. LIke the Exorcist, Godzilla, Enter the Dragon, Live and Let Die etc.
