I'm so glad I found this video. I've been trying to make my own onion rings for years, but I never thought of dipping them in goop then dipping them in powder. Still need to work out the kinks though, so far I've tried dipping them in bowls of chalkdust, baking soda, and Comet, but they're still not turning out that great. Oh well, isn't that the secret to good cooking? Using the process of elimination to figure out what is in the mystery bowl of powder you saw on the internet...
right okay people......... the recipe for onion rings is so easy and basic ........ self-raising flour water and 2-4 egg whites........ cut the onions into rings and put in flour first.......then into batter then into fryer/oil...... its that easy
Wow! I will not call you an idiot, but where is the actual recipe instructions/video. We are just watching you make the onion rings after you have already prepared your batter - You really! need to think about redoing this video.
What the heck! Which ingredients are for batter and which ingredients are for the breading? Why wasn't this whole recipe on the same video with the ingredients listed in print? If I were you, I'd redo it with just the facts, man.
I like to use some break apart chopsticks when I batter coat stuff so my fingers don't steal too much coating or mix the batter or flour too much. A package of 100 is just a dollar at some stores.
ya thats a good idea, lots of ppl use chopsticks (or gloves to not get messy) but it does save you some batter because when too much liquid mixes in you waste a lot of the flour that gets super thick and can no longer stick
You did the onion in FLOUR FIRST, Then in batter, then in PANKO bread crumbs. we had to do this at Culinary School and if we did it the way he is doing it, i would of failed "onion ring day"
yep thats how u do it both my parents are chef and i help them out and we always do flour first and then batter or some sort os liquid and then bread crumbs
here m8 yr doin tht the wrong way round u shud "dredge" your onion in flour first to help the batter stik and also was in nessesary to peel the onion?
How do you cut the rings?

Why not dust them with your dry hand Matt? You will get end up with a gooey mass.
I think you mean the batter "bonds" to the rings btw.

Too much hassle. I think Ore Ida makes whole breaded onion rings that you bake in the oven.
No fuss. No muss.
