** Important foundation question!! ** Should you start header with a certain "width" in the beginning? How do you make sure it will adjust to different resolutions that people may have while viewing your page? Does the header "auto-expand" as well? PLEASE ANSWER THIS!! I've always had problems with my pages sizing different on different computers.

Is there an advantage/disadvantage to slicing with the canvas size and Export Wizard vs. using the knife tool and Export --> HTML and Images (or CSS and Images)?

Also, and this is killing me, can you slice and export a non-repetitive (or non-gradient) pattern? I'm trying to use metal-turbine with another texture for my background, but I can't figure out how -- or if -- I can slice it.

you could also use the knife tool to slice it, or just create slices from objects... saves a little time in my opinion. Good tutorial though

Any graphic program can do that, I like that part Adam!. Its high time people learn that not Only Adobe does it. I don't use Dw no more any text editor can do the job. Do you prefer making the web graphics in Fireworks over Photoshop Extended?

I've always used Photoshop's slice tool and then saved for web & devices.

Is there a benefit Fireworks or Photoshop has over the other?

No benefits over any other program that can save an optimized jpg or png, I just like Fireworks better and am more comfortable designing sites in it. Photoshop is really nice.

@DCuerpoJr : fireworks has more enhanced export support for web and devices. I used photoshop for my 80% work till now. but now I am giving a try to fireworks cs4 .. so far i am very happy !
