@flasch0r When 5 enemies are present on the raft, the boat stops. The strategy used in this video is to keep the raft from having 5 enemies on it at all times so the boat doesn't stop and doing so makes it faster.

I think he's trying to fake out the koopas on the platforms above him so they fall in the "water" and not on his platform. Took me a couple seconds to get it myself.

If I had to guess it's because Mario counts as a weight of one on the bridge and since it stops moving if a certain number of things are on it. The less Mario is on it the better. And it seems like he's also doing it to make enemies fall before the boat is underneath them.

Yes I know, but at 8:51 it's a kind of scrolling level, and he avoid them, not that he don't pick him. At 8:52 he is going to the left so he don't pick the starcoin.
