Well, Clementi has the largest number of Piano sonatas composed (Scarlatti and that type doesn't count).

alla corte dell'imperatore Giuseppe II, Mozart sfidò Clementi ...e gli disse che non aveva un briciolo di ispirazione...che peccato...però almeno Clementi ha fatto tanti  studietti, che comunque non servono ad insegnare la tecnica pianistica...e poi mozart non aveva un pianoforte, ma un fortepiano, ossia uno strumento storico...la musica non prevedeva lo studio delle 5 dita....

Bè l'op.36 è molto eseguita per facilitare la scioltezza delle dita.

Mozart però apprezzava l'uso delle terze di Clementi.....per il resto credo che Mozart si fosse risentito del fatto che Giuseppe II decretò il pari da questa sfida.

Invito tutti gli estimatori di Muzio Clementi ad ascoltare le sue strabilianti sinfonie, il cui ascolto è disponibile anche su You Tube.

Non ho alcun problema a dire che soltanto le ultime tre sinfonie di Mozart possono reggere il confronto con quelle di Clementi, dacché per le altre il confronto sarebbe addirittura impari.

Ascoltare per credere!

Clementi è uno dei più grandi geni musicali italiani, rimasto ingiustamente nell'oscurità per troppo tempo.

i suppose that for a composer of mozart's stature, who's supposed to be the greatest in the land, even to DRAW with someone like clementi would be a moral victory for clementi. and to add insult to injury the piece that clementi used to either "draw" or defeat mozart in the competition, mozart ended up stealing for the theme of his most famous opera. so that's a telling "draw" if i ever saw one

What does Mozart's stature as a composer have to do with his stature as a pianist? Mozart is superior to Clementi as composer no question. But it does seem from examining their respective keyboard compositions, that Clementi's works exploit the technical resources of the piano in a more full manner. His music is more virtuosic than Mozart's. Mozart is still by far the superior composer, however I am open to Clementi as composer and feel he is underappreciated.

@eusebium7 I don't think you understood my post. I said that it was basically an honor for Clementi that Mozart stole his theme/melody and used it for his own. This was during a 1 on 1 piano contest that was held between the two men in which many/most thought that Mozart WON. So if you are insinuating that Clementi was a better pianist, well as I just said history records them as being at the least equals, although many feel Mozart won the competition, thus your point is refuted.

Yes, Mozart was jealous of the superior Clementi's tecnique on piano.

Mozart was always cornfull about the italian composer, but Clementi's sonatas on piano are best then Mozart's one.

Beethoven piano Sonatas come from Clementi not Mozart's sonatas.

maybe that's because he wrote more compositions than Clementi (Sonatas, Operas, Concertos, Requiem, etc.)

I agree that Clementi should be better known than he is, but I don't believe that Mozart is overrated. Comparing Clementi's sonatas, which were among his most important works, with Mozart's sonatas, which were at the lower end of his creative powers for the most part, really isn't a fair comparison of the composers. Besides, Clementi lived longer and died at the transition between the classical and romantic eras, while Mozart died in the middle of the classical era.

You can't say that Beethoven's piano sonatas aren't influenced by Mozart! Just listen to the second movement of K 457 and the second movement of the Pathetique. The 3rd piano concerto is also heavily influenced by Mozart's concerto in the same key. There are more examples, but these are the only ones that come to mind.

Bella esecuzione. Comunque concordo con voi. Clementi è stato troppo sottovalutato. Le sue sonate, che vengono considerate, pezzi propedeutici ai "grandi", non sono così semplici. Richiedono un tecnicismo abbastanza sviluppato e soprattutto un'interpretazione. Quasi nessuno interpreta Clementi, perchè viene considerato un "freddo". E invece l'abilità sta proprio nel saper accoppiare tecnica e interpretazione

Hanno rimandato il concorso Clementi al 2009 anziché farlo il prossimo mese, per via di lavori di ristrutturazione della villa... è pazzesco!

Mi sembrava troppo bello di poter andare a vederlo dopo aver aspettato per anni...

Sì, è veramente inaccettabile che un grande autore come Clementi non sia MAI eseguito nei concerti, soprattutto qui in Italia, sua madre patria!

Anche Beethoven asseriva che le sue sonate sono più belle di quelle di Mozart... e Beethoven non era uno qualsiasi.

Il prossimo mese andrò a "godermi" il concorso "Clementi" a Firenze, non posso assolutamente perdermelo!

Ma infatti Beethoven aveva perfettamente ragione: le sonate di clementi sono molto più belle di quelle di Mozart, meno pianistiche e più scontate.

Il nostro Clementi deve essere collocato nel posto che merita nella storia della musica.

I falsi miti germanici contro l'egemonia della musica italiana del '700, personificati dal Mozart vittorioso sui "mediocri" compositori italiani, ha ingiustamente oscurato i nostri connazionali.

I AWARD THIS 1 DRESDEN...WHILE HE CLEARLY HAS GREAT PIANISTIC PANACHE AND A CLEAR TENDENCY TOWARDS THE LYRICAL.He glides superficially through the changes here.After a while the constant vague hinting at structural change is recognized NOT AS TASTEFULNESS BUT A LACK OF RECOGNITION OF AFFECT.There are also other things missing,such as contrasting the hands on differing sides of the perceived downbeat.

We need to hear the chords varied in their execution.Some have to be broken clearly.

ottimo pianista e grande compositore Muzio Clementi!E' un peccato che le sue sonate non siano maggiormente eseguite.Anche su youtube la maggiorparte dei video su Clementi riguarda quelle ridicole sonatine op.36 per bambini che non dicono nulla della vera grandezza dell'autore.
