The aircraft in this video is an AT802 on Whipline 10000 amphibious floats. It is also known as a Fireboss. The wheels were securely tucked into the floats and the probes were down while he was scooping off of the lakes.
If what you say is correct.....then I sincerely retract my remarks regarding this video.Nevertheless,when I see videos of aircraft running their wheels over the water then I'm horrified at the senselessness of this type of stunt.
@bearflorian Thanks for the info, when I first saw this vid, I thought someone was aquaplaning as well, then I read the comments. In Australia an Airtractor is referred to most common Piper ag planes ... without floats, as the one at the start of the clip that takes off before this one, and it is easily assumed it is the other plane that looks like it is aquaplaning, not filling up. Again thanks for the info and not being rude about it.
Recently Australias' most experienced War Birds & Ag Pilot (Col Pay)was killed doing trials for scooping up water in a Turbine (like the one in the video)for fire fighting.If an experienced pilot like that gets killed, what price some one "skylarking" to get themselves killed? I had a good friend killed two years ago "stunting" in an ag plane, now he's a dead bloody idiot leaving a grieving family.
Its pretty obvious he was running his wheels (aquaplaning) on the surface of the water.I know this is a common practice (so is drink driving)sometimes the consequences are fatal!
He isn't doing what you say. He is flying with an AMPHIBIAN AT802FB. So the bloody idiot are you. Before insulting that pilot, you have to be informed.
