now this is music!!!! ah this song fills me with goosebumps!!!! love love love this song!!! ah the best came from the 80s !!!!!!!=D todys music sucks!!!
@funkmike If you research on discogs there were so many brilliant releases that year in pop music across all sub genre's and styles. If I had to guess I would attribute this to two things. 1. President Reagen declares that defecits don't matter. 2. Cocaine hit the scene. I'm not saying that Cyndi used drugs but something, SOMETHING happened in 1984 that changed the music world but I can't quite put my finger on it.
Honestly one of my favorite Cyndi Lauper songs. Something about the lyrics and flow of the song hits home every time. I am a product of the 80's but pretty sure I was originally from the 60's. Funny how both music genres resonate. Love Cyndi!
Way back then, I remember I was burning the midnight oil, studying for my 'O'-levels. There were no 24-hour radio stations back then. All I had was an old Sanyo cassette recorder, but as a tape DJ back then, I had lots of tapes. So I remember it was about 2am in the morning. Sick of studying, I put this tape in and this song came on, Cyndi telling me that she will be with me All Through The Night. These are one of the many reasons why I love this song, and why I adore Cyndi
This was written by Jules Shear, who also wrote The Bangles hit "If She Knew What She Wants."
Lauper was known for her hit "Girls Just Want To Have Fun," which had a quirky video that did very well on MTV. Lauper's producers wanted to find out if she could have a hit without a video, so there is no video for this song.
Great song indeed, her best song (of the ones i know form her)! I just discovered this song last week on a compilation cd of her. Since, I am listening to it every day. But; I read some years ago that she once told that one of her big examples (and influences) was Donna Summer. Always wondered which songs, but recognize a lot of the donna summer music of round 1980 in this song indeed. Especially influences of the albums Bad Girls (1979) and I am a Rainbow (1981). A great song, though!!
This would be playing over the loudspeakers in department stores when my mom would drag me out shopping ,at the public pool,on the beach at the Jersey shore or in the car choking on 2nd hand smoke when I was 3 or 4 maybe summertime of 1984 1985. Never forget it! LMAO
@Gengar10000000000 I say that too, I don't think many artists today are talented at all, they can just sing very loud so its more of a thrill to watch rather than getting any emotion really
@Gengar10000000000 YES!!! they are garbage they suck!!!! is all crap made fast to sell and since most folks are driven by what is famous insted of what is really good..they listen to crap so they can be like everybody else... crapshooters!! :)

I love the 80's. The music brings back so many memories. I wish I would have did more things I wanted to do durring those times. You only get one shot to do what you want in the world.
This song takes me back to 1984. It was the fall and I was on the phone with my best friend looking out the window and this cute kid was cutting my neighbors lawn. My neighbor was Mr. Fugi. He was a professional wrestler for WWF at that time. I remember meeting this kid at a pizza place with my older sister and taking a walk with him. He turned out to be not my type but this song still reminds me of him. Great memories.
I was a kid during the 80s best time of my life. I loved every moment of it. Was a good romanticist revival. I don't think things will ever be like that again I suppose it was a once in a lifetime thing. Now we are approaching a dark future, with only the hope that such a time will return.
songs from the 80's like this evoke such strong emotions and make me long for certain things I missed out on for various reasons...things you can't get back or re-create...it was such a unique time musically and also to live in...if you experienced it and feel like you took it for granted sometimes not realizing how special it was at the time, then you know what i mean
I remember being a teenager in the 80's and thought this great music would just get better and better. Boy was I wrong and how we all just miss the music era of 80's. It just had that vibe!!
When I listen to this music now I have all these fond childhood memories coming to the surface. I could listen to this song over and over and never get tired of it much like all the 80's music.
I was born in 1973, loved growing up in the 80's. Great time. Every 7-11 had video games. Floppy disks were, floppy and flexible. Atari 2600 was king. Radio Shack sold computers. Tandy computers? Apple 2E and Commodore 64 owned back then. Rubiks cubes and Smurfs. Goonies and later brat pack movies.
Hey I was born in 1973 as well... so I lived my teenager years in the 80s too... what a magical decade... I just loved the music and the memories as well....
@Rwings73 you are so right man i was born in 76' and remember listening to this song and like shout by tears for fears in the arcades..or at a truck stop ...i rode the streets on my BMX bycycle and those were the innocent days when the never ending story and nightmare on elm street was block buster movies....i cry for those days to visit me just one more time.....and of course i had the atari 2600 and endless hours of asteroids:) and watched star trek every chance i got.....peace
im sitting here drinkin 'all thru the night' wishing i could go back to shes so unusual album! now i watching vids on youtube all nite......i actually remember when there was like no tv broadcast at all after like 1am if u wanted to listen to music you had to hope walkman batteries didnt die out! want to back!!
Love the twelve-second note at 3:31. That's harder to do than you think, especially keeping on pitch and not sliding flat all that time. Cyndi is a very underrated singer.
so very, very, very amazing of a singer...never got the recognition as such but absolutely set the bar. Holding notes pure for unbelieveably long periods.
This is an amazing song it brings back such beautiful memories of a long lost love I really wish things had been different my love we would be together today (23 years) Just know that i will love you for eternity and miss you terribly you were my first and only love i will never love anyone as much as I love you
this is one of those songs for me that i feel like i've heard before even though i never have, like de-ja-vu. like it was written after my own heart.
She is by far my favorite 80's singer. She has a solid list of good music that stands the test of time. Yes it has some 80's cheese to it but over all it's a soild list that is much better than most from the 80's. Two thumbs up...

Tonight at the show I'll be with my wife!, Incredible to see Cibdy alive here in the city that I live. Glod bless you Cindy and all the fans around the world.
Ahhhh, the bright cheerful magical 80's...the air was different back then, it was like a colorful happiness was lingering in it. Even the people were happier some how, as I recall. Be interesting to go back in time just to see how noticeable it would be lol. Be great wouldn't it, even just for a day!
all through the night........I pretend its the 80s and I build a tent out of blankets, and set my garfield alarm clock so i dont miss saturday morning cartoons, and then i call my friends on my micky mouse phone and invite them over to watch E.T and ghostbusters and drink lots of soda.....and wake up and eat honey combs and the..oh shit its 2011 and im 30...it was just a dream..DAMMIT!!
@kcalbraeb four (4) months later, ummm, try 50 + 3. yesterday has never been a dream. hope hope for tomorrow's child. i kinda think that was what this song is about. honey combs . . . ok. see ya. don't forget the faith (and not just Faith Hill).
@kcalbraeb The 1980s could have been one of the best era's I can think of to grow up. We had the best cartoons, best tv shows, best movies best toys awesome music just to name a few! All you had to do was stay away from kids handing out tattoos with a blue star on it and not get into white vans because you might wind up on the back of a milk carton!
Yes, this is most definitely her best song. Reminds me of my first serious love. The pain, the joy and struggling thru a very difficult time in our lives with each other. This song strikes that chord perfectly.
I love the 80's! It was the best time of my life (I was born in 1977). The music was great, the clothes were original and life was much nicer! The music was very artsy and original and no one was scared to be themselves. I miss the 80s so much! The music was kid friendly and just nice and happy!
@estone1919 dude, are you serious ! 77'? you were an uninhibited kid in the 80's, ofcourse your perception was people were more at ease with themselves then as opposed to now. truth is professor, humans have struggled for thousands of years with the weak head and low self esteem you are now carrying on your back heavy as a stone, perhaps...estone. i missed this gay ass song typing to you.
Peeps. AS you get older, on past 50; all you have really is memories. If people want to relish and delve deep into the '80's and wish for those times again, I see nothing wrong with it. AmericanEvita? - If you want to e-mail me, go ahead. I live in Michigan.
dhsdad61 at G. mail dot com. (use at sign and gmail.com)
@FractalDistortion Why would ask that?? Of course being a child is WAY better than being an adult. I can't really relate to any of you because i'm a 90's babe grew up in the 90's so yea but i like this song anyways i heard it recently on the radio & decided to look it up on you tube.
80's rocked, todays alt. music is finally comparable, 20 years later and enough grunge and rap inbetween, finally we have great indie talent all over. Cyndi has her spot.
mdavidsp75, the laws were much looser back then, meaning more freedom and fun. You could get away with almost anything back then, creativity and imagination was a big part of every time you went out, so much more you could get away with in the name of fun, that's not so much the case today, much stricter society/laws/rules.
I was only a 7 year old kid and even though she's a musical artist and I'm a visual artist, I would say she played a major role in making me who I am today. Being yourself, doing whatever you feel is the best way to express yourself without giving a shit about what others think. I love Cyndi Lauper. I'm happy to grow old gracefully with her! Meeting this beautiful person would be a dream of mine. Just to say thank you.
what a great vid.! it reminds me of that scene from joe & the volcano, when after the yacht sinks, the huge pacific moons rises & joe grasps 'i've forgotten how big you are' speaking of god of course...
The music and artists of this country have gone to hell with the stupid politcal changes. Talented musicians like Cyndi Lauper and a ton of other good ones from the 80s are almost extinct.and replaced with music like Weezer and Justin Beiber, total crap.
@DrFLGood5 I agree with you 100% on this! Especially all the rap music! I can't freakin' stand it! I stick to my 80's music, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and Dave Matthews Band! I don't care for Country either but Rap is a lot worse!
Nowadays and since the 90's things have sucked. You can't even go out and party and get that wild anymore and have fun without some dumb liberal control-freak passing a law against it . The 80's were nothing like that, just pure wild and fun.
@DrFLGood5 Well you also get older too and take on more responsibilities like work and kids and family, so your perception of what used to be fun relative to the present day could be different. I'm in the same boat, I think everyone is. Know what I'm sayin'?? :) I'm not being critical, just thinking.
I grew up in the 80's(as if you can't tell from my sn). What awesome times for having fun, way better than the 90's or now. Less laws, less government, just pure imagination for having fun. There was no internet, computers were geeky unless you were 10 playing Oregon Trail. It was all about going out drinking, hanging out everywhere and having fun doing whatever you could think of, watching good movies, and most of all about listening to the best music and artists of the time.
@kcalbraeb I'd love to be a kid again because when I was a kid, it was the 1980's, and I would love to live in the 80's again - forever! Long live the 80's
I am straight as they come and I love every note in this song.....I dont need to listen to eminem, or any of that other BS to be a man, they are trendy cowards who are afraid to feel real emotion and this music brings me back to a time in my childhood where I didnt know the difference between, cool and geeky, name brand or generic, rich or poor...all I knew was what I felt and it wasnt tainted or influenced by anything but my own imagination and thats what this song does for me still today!

Cyndi at her best...... love to see her in concert with others.
drwatsup 1 year ago
Yes, this is most definitely her best song. Reminds me of my first serious love. The pain, the joy and struggling thru a very difficult time in our lives with each other. This song strikes that chord perfectly.

I love the 80's! It was the best time of my life (I was born in 1977). The music was great, the clothes were original and life was much nicer! The music was very artsy and original and no one was scared to be themselves. I miss the 80s so much! The music was kid friendly and just nice and happy!
estone1919 1 year ago
@estone1919 I agree. I was born in 77 too, and I miss the 80s.
RetroJenny 1 year ago

The music and artists of this country have gone to hell with the stupid politcal changes. Talented musicians like Cyndi Lauper and a ton of other good ones from the 80s are almost extinct.and replaced with music like Weezer and Justin Beiber, total crap.
DrFLGood5 1 year ago
@DrFLGood5 I agree with you 100% on this! Especially all the rap music! I can't freakin' stand it! I stick to my 80's music, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and Dave Matthews Band! I don't care for Country either but Rap is a lot worse!
mdavidsp75 1 year ago 2
Nowadays and since the 90's things have sucked. You can't even go out and party and get that wild anymore and have fun without some dumb liberal control-freak passing a law against it . The 80's were nothing like that, just pure wild and fun.
DrFLGood5 1 year ago
@DrFLGood5 Well you also get older too and take on more responsibilities like work and kids and family, so your perception of what used to be fun relative to the present day could be different. I'm in the same boat, I think everyone is. Know what I'm sayin'?? :) I'm not being critical, just thinking.
mdavidsp75 1 year ago
I grew up in the 80's(as if you can't tell from my sn). What awesome times for having fun, way better than the 90's or now. Less laws, less government, just pure imagination for having fun. There was no internet, computers were geeky unless you were 10 playing Oregon Trail. It was all about going out drinking, hanging out everywhere and having fun doing whatever you could think of, watching good movies, and most of all about listening to the best music and artists of the time.
