If your pet can tolerate a bath, you can wet it with water first, then spray rubbing alcohol (not in the eyes of course!) over its fur. Wait a couple minutes, then rinse. Or find a good flea shampoo made of natural ingredients. The ingredients in Advantage and Frontline were found to cause many health problems in the lab animals they were tested on. Imidacloprid (Advantage) has also been blamed for the colony collapse of honeybees & has been banned in a few European countries.
I'll never use any more chemical/pesticide based flea treatments. I think Advantage and/or Frontline contributed to my 15 yr old cat developing thyroid problems & later cancer. The main ingredient in Advantage is also used as an agricultural pesticide! Fleas can be killed with RUBBING ALCOHOL! It works. I used to spray a light mist of it over the carpets. You can comb your pet for fleas, drop the fleas in a bowl of rubbing alcohol & they die within seconds.
The best, healthiest & most effective treatment is DIATOMACEOUS EARTH.Give it time to see results. Then keep giving it..make sure cats/dogs have access to drinking h2o! So DON'T use poisonous chemicals or drugs!!!Don't do that to them.Vacuum a lot.Regular flea combing helps too.Take a flea comb, big bowl of hot water & toilet paper for this.Have pieces of tp ready. After combing the cats & finding fleas or flea eggs, wrap fur/fleas in tp,put in hot water, flush.Don't flush too much tp at once!
Hello, I need some advice on my situation and I really appreciate any feedback. I am an animal lover but after my pet passed, I decided not have another for a while. Unfortunatly, my neighbor likes to buy new pets and seriously neglect them. In result, I have been caring for two cats out of simpathy. I cannot afford to buy ADVANTAGE or FRONTLINE, but I have read about poison issues with the more affordible brands. I am worried about this and I do not know what my options are? Can you help?
@berkli16 I think he means using a ointment and using the powders on the carpet and using the fogger for the rooms throughtout the house. I do not think he is talking about using a ointment and a flea powder on the dog, since the powder he was talking about said carpet (and something else, I can't make out).
Uh sorry guy but if you're going to overmedicate your animal with ointments and powders you're going to kill your pet. I consulted with a vet~Plus over the counter drugs for animals can induce siezures - I know this because it happened when my cat was given the wrong medication for fleas and she suffered an allergic reaction from it. Use Advantage or Frontline and a vacuum...on the floor that is.
