Didn't think this game worked well, played with 3 players and if it were not for the decision of using the extended version, the game would have ended on 2-3 planets colonized. Everyone was taking colonize cards for their roles to get going, which meant it was empty too fast.
After this we managed to get a few techs and then the research cards ran out, ending us on 20, 20 and 17 points with a tie breaker. The difference between action and role on the cards is annoying. Mistake to buy this.
Decided to order it. So I'll be playing it in a couple of weeks. Really looking forward to it. Guess I'll be stuffing San Juan in the back of the shelf now. I have to admit, one of my biggest reasons for ordering this is how absolutely stunning this game is. Design can make or break a game for me, especially card games.
Some aspects remind me of San Juan. Or like swincnik said, Race for the Galaxy, although I've actually never played that. They were spawned from the same mould, as in they were both competing to be the card based version of Puerto Rico back in the day. This game looks more fun than both those games, though. Maybe a bit simpler than Race for the Galaxy, which is fine by me. Stepping stone to Race for the Galaxy maybe?
Looks interesting. And i have already noticed it on BGG when they were posting cards design. Really attracting. Reminds me RftG and therefore looks more interesting to me. I like card games with interesting mechanics and of course with the space theme:)
They have made a game with the fighters, they're the same ones used in Galactic Emperor. The forthcoming Eclipse uses the same ships as well. They're heading towards being the space meeple.
Seems too much like other card games of this nature for me. Even the ships are the of the same mold from Galactic Emperor. Middle of the road user reviews on BGG (Board Game Geek) say that it's still got interesting mechanics.
@PrivateCameltoe I don't put a whole lot of faith into the user reviews on BGG. That place is a great source of information on board games, not sure about some of the (more vocal) people however.
Please review Eclipse!

"Need to make a game with these fighters" @177s Looks like they have! Eclipse. It's an Agricola meets Twilight Imperium type game that is a blast.
Been playing the crap out of it lately.

@swincnik
Indeed, it is very similar to 'Race for the Galaxy.' However, I think 'ED' is a much better game.

@wtjbatman BGG user reviews are far more indicative of whether or not I like a game than my local game group's member reviews.

Sounds like a lot of fun. It reminds me a bit of Space Puerto Rico. Kinda like Race for the Galaxy reminds me of Space San Juan.
