O man, You gave me a very good idea. I will just head over to the fabric store and get all the supplies. Ty for letting me know that my dinning room table is the reason my lower back may be hurting. LOL..
that is ok if you have the room but i do not so i have and keep my sewing masshine on my table and i found a pino bench and i had some foum and fabric but the fabric over the foum and that works for me
as a petite woman, i've always had a problem with finding a comfort zone for sewing and quiling and now i know what to do..... thanks, what a genius woman!!! and it's soooo practical! can't thank you enough. i'm smiling now!
It's me again, Alice, I just watched this again. Y'know as I watched I now remember how I kept scooching over because of that leg. There's things we do w/o even giving it a thought but still feeling uncomfortable, glad you pointed that out! I've purchased a hollowcore door for around $20 and set it on a two file cabinets, now I need to go measure it and see if it meets those 17". Thanks for making this cognative for us. Don't bother answering, you're busy,
Hi Alice, I love chatting with people about my videos and I appreciate your idea too - the door and file cabinets are a great solution. I will use 2x4 blocks sometimes to raise things up to the right height ~~ whatever it takes! I sure hope your new table is *very* comfortable for you. I can't wait to hear about it, I hope you post a comment or a video and let us know. Marguerita
@CrazyShortcutQuilts Hi, Marguerita :) I just watched a few of your videos; i'm new to the quilting world and wanted to make sure I was doing things properly! However, I am lost. I am posting this in the wrong place because I'm so lost! I'm trying to find the video BEFORE the one you did 'for Linda' - showing the FIRST steps of attaching binding, BEFORE you do the corners. Could you please link me to that? I sure would appreciate it! Thanks very much! Suzy
@cazelsolvesky Hi Suzy, I have not yet made one on the before portion of the binding but there are *many* on YouTube and quite a few of them are very good! I have a site called quilt-video that has good videos sorted by topics - I can't post the link here but it is on my channel page if you click on that :)
Greeting from Georgia, Now I know why I always had a backache when using the dining room table. However, what I do like about that table is that I had lots of room on both sides of the sewing machine and plenty behind it and it had a glass top which was slippery enough for fabric to slide well. For the reasons I've mentioned I think that's probably why so many of us use the dining room table, all that space!
Hi Alice, you have a very good point. We have to use what we can! Maybe if quilters see this they will get up and stretch more or look around to see if there is a lower table in the house for them to use. Either way we *have* to keep quilting ;)
Hi, I am glad that you asked! I have been teaching quilting for many years and I have used many sewing and quilting desks and tables, even had a special on built for me but none worked as well as the table set up that I have now. I have done research on ergonomics and have a blog post about it on my website but YT won't let me post a link to it. I spent years developing my sewing area, testing & trying materials. Plz watch my vids on how I built my "cheap" custom table for abt $100, thx! M
wish had seen this earler last few months, have been using a piece of plywood on top of milk crates,
worked ok not great, but ok, wanted a nice sewing table, found a very pretty table on craigs list table, with in 5 min of sitting down at it, knew it was all wrong " too high ' and yes same as you moved chair to the left to be centered on needle " there is a blinking leg in the way " you are so right, yours truly Mac
anybody want to buy a very nice looking sewing table
Hi Mac, Please go check out my vids on my Cheap Sewing and Quilting Tables here on YT. It's a lot like your milk crates & plywood, but with some improvements that you might like!
I am sorry you got your hopes up on a nice sewing table - - - maybe put a doily on it and use the drawers for storage?
Wishing you comfort and creative sewing, Marguerita :)
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. I have watched it a few times and as I just purchased an adjustable desk for my machines i have come back to refresh my memory as to how I should be sitting so I can set myself up in a great healthy way this time. All the best from sunny (and still too hot LOL) Oman.
Hi, I have watched all of your sewing table videos. They are great! I am in the process of setting up my sewing area in a different part of the house (Off of the kitchen table). Could you please tell me the dimensions of your folding table? I really like the look of that size. Oh, and I loved your videos so much I purchased your book. Can't wait to try one of your quilts. Thank you, Dana Fairfield, CA
Hi, Thank you so much, you have made my day brighter!!
My tables are 2 feet by 4 feet and I have one that does not fold up and two that *do* fold up and I like the folding ones best because of the way the legs are when the table is set up.
You didn't have to buy the book but I am glad you did and I would love it if you came over to my blog to chat with us all about quilting!
It's make sense! Many items to adjust to have the best set up. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience with the world! Salutations from Montreal, Quebec, Canada
Your video helped immensly....I always get burning in my neck and shoulders....I now realize it's my set up. Going to fix that right away! :) Thanks so much!!!
