Now in terms of numbers, Warne obviously beats Murali having played more tests. But if Murali goes at current strike rate then in 42 matches he should accumulate more than 200 wickets. While 99 is all he needs to overcome Warne in that dept.

peace is all well and good BUT. Both bowlers have taken more wickets against the teams they have played more matches against. The only exception is Murali against W indies, but look where they are on the tables.
The record is set straight, warne still would have the record if he hadent been banned, and murali has taken soooo many more wickets against lesser opponents.

If we exclude Zim and Bang. Then
Murali 100 Matches 593 wickets.
Warne 142 Matches 691 Wickets.
Now in terms of numbers, Warne obviously beats Murali having played more tests. But if Murali goes at current strike rate then in 42 matches he should accumulate more than 200 wickets. While 99 is all he needs to overcome Warne in that dept.

jumping the gun wont make him any greater. let him get 1000, then we'll see. murali is a legend no doubt. but he enjoyed too many advantages which poor warney didnt have, or else he could have taken even more wickets. warney brought the magic back in the dying art of leg spin. his personality, his looks, his skills, almost everything about him makes him stand out more than any other bowler. murali doesnt have a "ball of the century". that one delivery epitomises the class of warney.

i would rate murali better than warne because for a long time he was sri lankas only strike bowler defending small totals in tests and warne was always defending 400+ in tests also warne was backed up by a lot of bowlers eg mc grath so if he didnt perform the others could handle it. murali had more pressure on him to take wickets.

It not really fair when you compare off spinner to leg spinner , hats of to Murlitharan for breaking the record. Leg spinners are more attention-grabbing, interesting to watch. The art of leg spin is fascinating. Murali is great to watch too because of his supple wrist very unique, spins it more than any other off-spinners in the game.
