Does anyone know what episode of Dino thunder when Tommy is in a dark forest with his past white and green ranger? I think this is from Dino thunder but I could be wrong. Also, I enjoyed watching your breakdown videos. Very entertaining and also renewed my interest in mmpr
gotta say, listening to the power rangers show sound track... eargasam...honestly they got some serious musicians for the american power rangers! I have grown to love the opening song to the zyuranger sentai opening...its so catchy!
@Saiyuki2o4 Back when I made these, they were on YouTube. I'm afraid I don't really follow any PR/Sentai fan communities, so I don't know why/if Zyuranger is any harder to find than any other. Sorry I can't be more help.
@Saiyuki2o4 I think the Megaupload takedown might have been part of it, but I also found that the episodes have often been taken down due to copyright claims from either Saban Entertainment or Toei. It almost looks like they're trying to remove all traces of Super Sentai in the U.S. I personally would like a way to legally get a subbed/dubbed version of Zyuranger, but I'm unsure if Toei will allow that. Maybe some anime licensing company will finally come around and get the rights.
You know I like Both Zyuranger and power rangers but I would have like to see the power rangers work like the zyurangers did to gain the power to form the megazord.To me that would have been great for the story and to show how they need to work for there new powers instead of having it given to them.Also that would have sent a message to the kids to work for wh
I agree. Even at 7, it never made sense to me how Jason called out for a "Power Sword" for Megazord that he'd never been told about. When I saw Zyuranger, it all made sense. There was a fun build to it all, and it gave the Tyranosaurus a chance to shine before it was eclipsed by the combined forms. And, yes, going on a quest increased the number of storylines and made the eventual combination feel more satisfying, more earned.

even though they used the japaneese footage they did start filming there own ranger footage when the green ranger came back for the end of S1 and begining of S2 cause in the original zyureangers the green ranger loses his powers and dies and dosnt return but in MMPR he loses his powers only and comes back and later became the white ranger and cause the original white ranger was a member of another zyuranger group they had to keep filming their own ranger footage
A huge "What Saban didn't want you to see but you saw it anyway" comes from the Mr. Ticklesneezer episode, where during the zord battle with ticklesneezer, you see a "giant" japanese child hiding behind him at some point. I remember when I first saw that, I thought "What the hell?".
@geocross237 TV-Nihon only has the first ten episodes so far, and they're not likely to finish any more episodes until they're done with Dairanger (The Sentai after Zyu), but they rip the footage from the DVDs rather than 1992 TV broadcasts, so the footage quality will be worth the wait.
lol I agree @MistareFusion. folks can say what they want but at least Zyuranger had a story plot, developed characters, suspense, drama and morals. And their plot actually involved dinosaurs too.

Do you agree with me that Zyuranger at first wasn't as good? It was still just as cheesy, but without the humor. Only later did it become better, after the introduction of Burai.
The zords do too act independently. At least, Dragonzord and Tyrannosaurus Zords do. The latter is actually more independent, as it doesn't need music to tell it what to do.
When did we see Jason's zord operate independently? Whenever they formed Dragonzord in Battle Mode (DZ-BM), and Jason would leap from his zord to it (where Kimberly always was already there, somehow. Forever I thought the Pterodactyl Zord was part of the DZ-BM, hooked up in the back or something.)

I never cared for Trini in MMPR, but I do love Boi. He's my favorite Zyuranger. :D Although Mei and Dan come in close second. And Burai is a badass, of course.

BTW, MMPR wasn't Haim Saban's first attempt at localizing Super Sentai. Back in 1986, he produced a pilot episode of a show using footage from Choudenshi Bioman (1984). It was never picked up by any network or syndication.
Yes Zyuranger should of been dubbed in English. JAKQ was shown in places like Penn. back in the 1970's and called "The LUCKY ACES" just like GORANGER (called STAR RANGERS) , BIOMAN , FLASHMAN , and JETMAN were also shown in English in places in Asia like Hong Kong, etc. For that matter TURBORANGER was shown in Canada in English dub in the early 90's before Power Rangers ever existed!
one of the most epic shows of my childhood. Its really not that hard to get why this show was so great. It was funny and had great action. Cool costumes to go with amazing fight choreography. the show was smart idea for saban and to this day Im still pretty entertain by it.

My father taped old reruns of Night Flight on USA a few years earlier, and he would let me see the "Dynaman" segments! Infact when he first saw MMPR with me he confused it with Dynaman lol!
First time I saw it I never realised the first Rita was the Japanese actress dubbed in English, it was a massive shock to my system but it did give me a massive nostalgia grin
@Yugioh257 Nope. I think 24 is around as far as was ever fansubbed. It's really not that hard to follow it, though. I mean, I know a little Japanese, but the plots are pretty simple, and if you just have episode guides, it's pretty easy to get the gist.
@MistareFusion I tried watching an unessential episode, and I lost a lot of information. That said, we have 1-31 right now, a good stopping point.
Also raws are really easy to find using Google video search nowadays, but finding the subs is a lot harder. Filestram seems to have them all currently, but they use megavideo, so you may prefer to torrent.
I still wonder how RedRogueRanger did it. Someone who was waiting for the subs obviously doesn't speak the language, so maybe I can do it.
Yeah Saban oughta English sub all of ZYURANGERS for their upcoming 20th Anniversary! For that matter Places like South America gets the original Japanese Sentai in Portugese, so why can't we get an English dub? We should ask Saban to start English dubbing the original Sentai shows!
3)America really does not care for tokusatsu. If the demand for it isn't big, We won't get DVD sales. EX. Kamen Rider the first movie came over here on DVD subbed and dubbed.....nobody bought it, so no Kamen Rider The Next over here in the states

Pretty neat documentary, but I would've also noted that they changed the black and pink ranger animals: mamoth to mastodon and pteradon to pteradactyl.
@Christina314 Well, I credit DtKingdom in all the parts of this series, but someone recently brought to my attention that Toei, who's been really cracking down lately, shut down his account. That's who I used to do all my research for Zyuranger, Dairanger, Kakuranger, and every other sentai I reference. Now that they've been taken down, I'm afraid I don't know where you can look. But I am pretty sure they are available on DVD (import).

@KAISERANIME The closest we had to a Super Sentai being dubbed was an episode of Power Rangers: Dino Thunder, in which the staff was so lazy, they filmed a show where the Power Rangers were watching a "Japanese Adaptation" of themselves, called the Abaranger. They literally showed most of a whole episode from Abaranger, cutting away every so often to get the Ranger's reaction on what was happening. As lazy as using that footage was, it also was the best show of Dino Thunder. >.< Go figure

I must say thank you. Its pretty funny to remember watching my old tapes and thinking there was just some type of audio delay when rita talked but now i know she was speaking japanese. Im now a realy big fan of both super sentai and your reviews. I just bought Batman and Robin because of your review, i know what is going to happen but as you said in your dragon ball review its fun to know whats going to happen. one thing that bugs me about Zyuranger and MMPR season 1, we learn in the Green with Evil sagas, the megazord and zords are solar powered. why doesn't Rita/Bandora just attack when it's night time and send down a whole army of monsters?
I remember clearly seeing Jason's glowing morpher in a close up, when zordon came back and the "destroyed" zords came out of the ground ressurected. Saban did not edit this well enough in the very first airing of the show, where I clearly saw the Zyuranger text on the buckler. that is when I knew that MMPR wasn't the original show.
I absolutely loved this whole series, and I think you deserve more of an audience. Making YouTube videos is like throwing a glass bottle into an ocean, alas. I'd love to hear more of your thoughts on PR and Sentai. Keep up the entertainment!
The sphinx episode being about teamwork was a little weird. Then again, you didn't see an anime-personality Sphinx monster telling riddles
I'm surprised you didn't talk about the minotaur: awesome journey they had and probably could have added american footage a la island of illusion to make it work.

Burai teleported before. It goes boing disappear, probably not as much as the the Japanese footage
@PRPHD Yeah, all those early episodes had some oddities, like the weapons having their names changed early on. The sphinx episode really stuck out to me though as just not making any sense either on the American side or stock footage side. And Burai is a unique case. I'm assuming you're referring to the teleport he did right before he died? I guess Clotho had something to do with that, although why she wanted Burai to die on a beach is beyond me...
I always wondered .. when the Kimberly and Trini Morphed into their Super Powered Costumes, their boobs were gone, they practically became flat chested like the guys Lol.
I always knew there was something not quiet right about Power Rangers (still my favorite show). After watching Zyurangers, I can honestly say Zyurangers made more sense and was better.
@TousouDoku Definitely. Even though I couldn't even find subtitles for the second half of the series, it was still a blast to watch and pretty easy to figure out. I can't wait until I get the other parts done. The Dragon Ranger/Green Ranger plots are really interesting, especially in its differences between versions, and it's really for that that I'm doing these videos. Actually in the middle of watching Gosei Sentai Dairanger right now in preparation for Part 3. ^_^

You're going to make me rewatching Zyuranger to figure out which episodes there's teleporting. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing... I know they use the FX tho
The "zyu" in "zyuranger" is pronounced like "ju". You see, the word is ジュウレンジャー (juurenjaa). The "zyu" for ジュ("ju") romanization is old and misleading. A minor nitpick, but you'd know a lot about that. :)

For some reason, I was just having a hard time pronouncing it that day, although you can hear that I said "Daizyujin" more in line with the "juu." @ShinshoGurren I also stand by the theory that Zyuranger is less of an outdated romanization and more of a double entendre if you will. Since juurenja could also be written to be translated out to "beast ranger" I sometimes wonder if the Zyu spelling is just to approximate a more English-sounding word as with Ranger itself or like Torankusu to Trunks in Dragon Ball. On the other hand, I've also heard that it was supposed to be a joke for Jurassic.
@ShinshoGurren All that said, I'm still annoyed with myself that it came out the way it did and used those theories I'd heard to justify not re-recording all of my footage, and I intend to edge closer to the Japanese pronounciation in future videos. It was a slip up I honestly didn't notice I was saying until I heard it played back. Wow, that took a lot of words to say. But I'm glad you enjoyed the video. At least, I assume you did. =P
@Hewylewis Actually, yes. It's what partly inspired me to do it. Well, actually, it was MarzGurl's video last year that got me on to Zyuranger, but I stopped about halfway through. Then it was Linkara's series that renewed my interest enough to finish the series and do this.

Well they changed 3 of the Rangers.
1. The Black Ranger's a fun-loving joker; MammothRanger is serious and the voice of reason.
2. The Blue Ranger's an analytical nerd; TriceraRanger is the wisecracking comedy relief.
3. The Yellow Ranger's a girl; TigerRanger is a guy.

When you look at both Zyuranger and MMPR they are completely different with different plots and storylining. MMPR just clearly the updated the rangers and monsters with only the english actor dubbing the Japanese in fighting scenes which is what they did with the villians.

Guess what, I new that it was Japanese footage back then, and you all know why?
My father taped old reruns of Night Flight on USA a few years earlier, and he would let me see the "Dynaman" segments! Infact when he first saw MMPR with me he confused it with Dynaman lol!

First time I saw it I never realised the first Rita was the Japanese actress dubbed in English, it was a massive shock to my system but it did give me a massive nostalgia grin

@Yugioh257 Nope. I think 24 is around as far as was ever fansubbed. It's really not that hard to follow it, though. I mean, I know a little Japanese, but the plots are pretty simple, and if you just have episode guides, it's pretty easy to get the gist.

@MistareFusion I tried watching an unessential episode, and I lost a lot of information. That said, we have 1-31 right now, a good stopping point.
Also raws are really easy to find using Google video search nowadays, but finding the subs is a lot harder. Filestram seems to have them all currently, but they use megavideo, so you may prefer to torrent.
I still wonder how RedRogueRanger did it. Someone who was waiting for the subs obviously doesn't speak the language, so maybe I can do it.

Yeah Saban oughta English sub all of ZYURANGERS for their upcoming 20th Anniversary! For that matter Places like South America gets the original Japanese Sentai in Portugese, so why can't we get an English dub? We should ask Saban to start English dubbing the original Sentai shows!

1)sentai is virtually unkown in the states
2)would not sell well
3)America really does not care for tokusatsu. If the demand for it isn't big, We won't get DVD sales. EX. Kamen Rider the first movie came over here on DVD subbed and dubbed.....nobody bought it, so no Kamen Rider The Next over here in the states
I don't mean to be a downer, but PR is somethin most of the US does not care for, what makes people think they will think differently from the original stuff?

Pretty neat documentary, but I would've also noted that they changed the black and pink ranger animals: mamoth to mastodon and pteradon to pteradactyl.

@Christina314 Well, I credit DtKingdom in all the parts of this series, but someone recently brought to my attention that Toei, who's been really cracking down lately, shut down his account. That's who I used to do all my research for Zyuranger, Dairanger, Kakuranger, and every other sentai I reference. Now that they've been taken down, I'm afraid I don't know where you can look. But I am pretty sure they are available on DVD (import).

Saban should English dub ZYURANGERS because of their upcoming 20th Anniversary! Why can't we get an English dub ever? Lets all ask Saban to start English dubbing the original Sentai! Other companies English dubbed the older Sentai shows like Bioman, JAKQ, Flashman etc

@KAISERANIME The closest we had to a Super Sentai being dubbed was an episode of Power Rangers: Dino Thunder, in which the staff was so lazy, they filmed a show where the Power Rangers were watching a "Japanese Adaptation" of themselves, called the Abaranger. They literally showed most of a whole episode from Abaranger, cutting away every so often to get the Ranger's reaction on what was happening. As lazy as using that footage was, it also was the best show of Dino Thunder. >.< Go figure

I must say thank you. Its pretty funny to remember watching my old tapes and thinking there was just some type of audio delay when rita talked but now i know she was speaking japanese. Im now a realy big fan of both super sentai and your reviews. I just bought Batman and Robin because of your review, i know what is going to happen but as you said in your dragon ball review its fun to know whats going to happen. Please keep up the great work ill be wacthing.

one thing that bugs me about Zyuranger and MMPR season 1, we learn in the Green with Evil sagas, the megazord and zords are solar powered. why doesn't Rita/Bandora just attack when it's night time and send down a whole army of monsters?

I remember clearly seeing Jason's glowing morpher in a close up, when zordon came back and the "destroyed" zords came out of the ground ressurected. Saban did not edit this well enough in the very first airing of the show, where I clearly saw the Zyuranger text on the buckler. that is when I knew that MMPR wasn't the original show.

The sphinx episode being about teamwork was a little weird. Then again, you didn't see an anime-personality Sphinx monster telling riddles
I'm surprised you didn't talk about the minotaur: awesome journey they had and probably could have added american footage a la island of illusion to make it work.
it is a shame that the uncostumed zyuranger fights were out.
Burai teleported before. It goes boing disappear, probably not as much as the the Japanese footage

@PRPHD Yeah, all those early episodes had some oddities, like the weapons having their names changed early on. The sphinx episode really stuck out to me though as just not making any sense either on the American side or stock footage side. And Burai is a unique case. I'm assuming you're referring to the teleport he did right before he died? I guess Clotho had something to do with that, although why she wanted Burai to die on a beach is beyond me...

I always knew there was something not quiet right about Power Rangers (still my favorite show). After watching Zyurangers, I can honestly say Zyurangers made more sense and was better.

The main reason to watch Power Rangers is: Amy Jo Johnson.
I love how they made the asian girl the yellow ranger, the hot girl the pink ranger, and the black guy the black ranger.

@TousouDoku Definitely. Even though I couldn't even find subtitles for the second half of the series, it was still a blast to watch and pretty easy to figure out. I can't wait until I get the other parts done. The Dragon Ranger/Green Ranger plots are really interesting, especially in its differences between versions, and it's really for that that I'm doing these videos. Actually in the middle of watching Gosei Sentai Dairanger right now in preparation for Part 3. ^_^

Watching the Sphinx episode without any subs is quite a put off... And some people still wouldn't enjoy it with the subs
Burai I guess always teleports since he's stuck in the timeless room also when he got unleashed
And maybe the villains too.
You're going to make me rewatching Zyuranger to figure out which episodes there's teleporting. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing... I know they use the FX tho

The "zyu" in "zyuranger" is pronounced like "ju". You see, the word is ジュウレンジャー (juurenjaa). The "zyu" for ジュ("ju") romanization is old and misleading. A minor nitpick, but you'd know a lot about that. :)

For some reason, I was just having a hard time pronouncing it that day, although you can hear that I said "Daizyujin" more in line with the "juu." I am aware of how it's written in kana, just so we're clear. But I do appreciate you pointing it out. ^_^ That said... (continued)

@ShinshoGurren I also stand by the theory that Zyuranger is less of an outdated romanization and more of a double entendre if you will. Since juurenja could also be written to be translated out to "beast ranger" I sometimes wonder if the Zyu spelling is just to approximate a more English-sounding word as with Ranger itself or like Torankusu to Trunks in Dragon Ball. On the other hand, I've also heard that it was supposed to be a joke for Jurassic.

@ShinshoGurren All that said, I'm still annoyed with myself that it came out the way it did and used those theories I'd heard to justify not re-recording all of my footage, and I intend to edge closer to the Japanese pronounciation in future videos. It was a slip up I honestly didn't notice I was saying until I heard it played back. Wow, that took a lot of words to say. But I'm glad you enjoyed the video. At least, I assume you did. =P

@Hewylewis Actually, yes. It's what partly inspired me to do it. Well, actually, it was MarzGurl's video last year that got me on to Zyuranger, but I stopped about halfway through. Then it was Linkara's series that renewed my interest enough to finish the series and do this.
