  • "regular girls" pfft yeah. regular girls like that on my road XD

  • I like this photo.

  • Jeez guys they're all pro artists.

  • sir , how do you start drawing this?

  • A Very Helpful Video! Personally, I've heard of some of this stuff before, but I think all of the stuff you said is very important and helpful . . . Thanks! :D

  • so awesome...such a clear, didactic form of teaching.

  • your drawing is better than the picture

  • i wish u were my teacher!

  • @SuperShelbz1 SAME

  • why do u always draw girls in odd positions

  • I personally draw people in irregular poses, not just becuase it makes for a more interesting pose but as it's a challenge and It furthers my skills much quickier...

  • What about drawing from scratch ? Because drawing over an EXISTING drawing (which was drawn over a photograph) isn't interresting at all.

  • @pierrickz he's teaching not showing off, think.

  • excellent choice of picture hehe

  • waw you're amaizing!

  • I hate staraight lines aswell i prefer curve lines.....

Coz whenever i try to draw building the building is kinda like falling or collapsing...so thats why I agree to NO TO STraight lines

  • =S I think this is a disease, how the people in the drawing is always skinnier than the ones appear from the picture. =P I have the same attempt when drawing people.

  • Thanks super super helpful!

  • those mechanical pentels are really nice to draw with- have you put some of the kneaded eraser in the top- if so that's a neat tip!

your drawing work is inspirational matt

  • so sorry I am a mexican , i dont sayd my nacionality

  • ohh mann i cant understand you )`:

if you can up subtitules pls heheh

im sorry for my bad inglish

  • who's dis ur model?

  • u said no to straight life style noh joking couldnt resist nice video

  • Thanks Matt. These are really helpful.

  • hey i kinda like this dude.

  • ur a really great artist.

  • woooooooooow

    he's good

  • whats the basic tools you use?

  • LOLOLOL

    Just saw 'Mark Crilley's work.

Nightsinger. Mark Crilley isn't even CLOSE to Matt in drawing ability. And learning to draw folds starts here, based on the real. Only once you have drawn folds from life 100000 times, then what you end up producing from imagination may be actually worth looking at.

Honestly though, how could you even say Mark Crilley is better? Awesome stuff Matt, wish you would post more.

  • I say say it very easily. Mark is far more genuine, and is a better teacher.

All matt seems to do is copy from a photo reference. That isn't drawing ability, its the ability to copy. Drawing from real life is all well and good, but it alone isn't art or expression. Its actually a very cheap attempt at skill, copying a drawing line for line from a photo is easy, very easy. If he used live models, then i'd have a different opinion.

I'm just calling matt out on it.

  • Thanks.

  • @matthew39arch lol im pretty sure u can careless about nightsinger comment cause at the end of the day ur still a great artist

  • If M.Crilley is the only artist existing...and no Matthew around....that would be SOOOOOO BORING!......

  • are u dumb? its true that mark crilly draws good but his art is different hes A MANGA ARTIST!!!!! and regular art from manga art is DIFFERENT!!!!!!!! first of all manga characters r not REAL!!! if u look at their eyes they're not even close to a humans!! and there r many ways to draw manga.....also many sites and schools to learn manga art..also if mark crilly sometimes does his art in black and wite...but still saying that mark is better then matthew for such a stupid reason is pathetic..

  • meh?

They have the same roots in life drawing (you need to know the rules before you can deform them), so its a moot point, its also an irrelavent one. As i'm not comparing manga to life drawing.

I'm critical of matthew's teaching style and his ability to draw from anything other than a photograph. Anyone can draw from a photograph, anyone, and this is guy is trying to sell me a teaching DVD. Teaching someone to do something easy doesn't interest me.

  • your not to bright are you

  • @Nightsinger your quick to judge...

  • @Nightsinger i cant believe u just tried to compare Mark Criley and Mathew they are completely different styles of drawing, hahaha i laugh at your stupidity. Manga and life drawing are not the same both artist are very good at what they do so please keep negative comments to yourself unless you know what your talking about.

  • @josheaves15 Dude, I made that comment a year ago?

    Get a life...

  • @Nightsinger 2 years ago...

  • @Nightsinger Go f*ck yourself somewhere in a corner -_-

  • @Nightsinger my friend, Mark Crilley is a noob.

  • @Nightsinger yap you right, this man only want people to buy his dvd's

  • @Nightsinger dumbass...

  • @Nightsinger FUCK YOU show some respect to matthew

  • @Kamikuru77 nightsinger is kinda right tho, i wouldn't say it soo rudely, but wat he said holds truth later on in an artists career.pictures are ok sometimes but live models are far better to work with, and the references would need to stop to truly become an accomplished artist. if u follow these lessons, it would be wise to only do it for a little while. then do it on your own.

  • @Nightsinger basics are needed, to form a m,emory bank, mark crill is amazing, i do prefer him, only because i prefer anime, but markcrilly his drawing are worse in some ways and better in others, he has really sharp edges and uses many straight lines, this is a diffrent tehcniq, if you can only do mark crilly style you are pathetic to say that, he is trying to help you so watch learn adapt overcome and them you dont like it? improvise! magic is it not?

  • @unknownfallenangell People are still responding to this O_o. Weird

Matt is effectively teaching a method that depends greatly on outlining and extenuating specific details, overall it makes for a poor and shallow technique. Construction lines, expression of form and actual life reference are missing from most of his stuff, this is a valid criticism of someone selling you something.

For the record, I draw in several different styles, most prominently life drawing, but also comics.

  • @Nightsinger i think that it is remarkable what a camera can do

  • @Nightsinger It's just drawing from life, but easier, because the photo doesn't move and is always available to use. It's not unoriginal, it's how most people draw -_-

  • @lolsausagelol12341 *Sigh* See previous Comment.

If you want to have a robust technique, then you need to actually go out and draw something. Photo's are definitely important as references but they aren't very useful for actually understanding how a persons body is formed and constructed, and its this knowledge that makes for good technique. Like it or not, their wouldn't be any life drawing if photos are just as good.

Jebus, I made most of these comments years ago. Sheesh...

  • @Nightsinger Delete your comment then, that's what I do when I still get responses from comments made long ago.

  • @Nightsinger Mark Crilley has mentioned that he uses references! I watch ALL of his videos, and when he does realism, he mentions that he uses a reference photo! And btw, Mark Crilley is centered around drawing MANGA. MANGA ISN'T REALISM.

  • nice eraser

  • cool:P

  • you are awesome dude!!!

  • The skirt looks kinda transparent since the line of the hip is the same as the skirt "sewing" (i dunno) ^^ Your videos helps alot and they are really kickass

  • what kind of pencil is that your using for this one?

  • the girl that u drew has more texture idk how to explain it but ur a great drawer!!

  • Some very useful ideas in here. Thanks! It'll be a big help. :)

  • Seeing your videos makes me wanna go back to drawing classes again lol

  • hey that sounds great. Maybe it help me on my shading and how to draw real people. I don't have much experience drawing clothes nor real people. So I need lots of help and advice and I quite a few questions as well.
