  • B Side of Natural born Boogie - my fav. Song...

  • just amazing»« god bless Steve

  • Without a doubt a time of turning in music these and a number of others in my opinion were the masters

  • das war nach afterglow ......der zweite hertzsong von mir...dAS IST STEVE WIE ICH IHN GELEBT HABE::

  • Was this really just a "B" side?! don't make them like this any more

  • Pig Trotters is my favorite Small Faces instrumental, and god knows I have a lot of them. Marriott's voice is always a welcome addition to any song, but the music here is strong enough to stand on its own sans vocals. Is this version credited to Marriott/Lane or just Marriott?

  • and i said pig trotters couldn't get any better.

  • Steve Marriot is perfect music!!!!!!!

  • 1 dislike. Must be a Justin beiber fan

  • Brilliant nonetheless!

  • This song was a small faces song that was never released. Marriott revived it a year after the faces split with pie. So really isn't even a pie song.

  • @leshutch74

    really not a pie song?

The Pig Trotters was an instrumental ditty. Being with The Pie, Steve wrote lyrics (and vocal line) therefore he greatly improved that Small Faces demo song.

He had this song in his song book, I can bet it was primary his tune from the very beginning.

  • Fantastic track . Brilliant bass !

  • fuckinpropersoulfulcockneygeezer

  • Wow I haven't heard this in many many years, thanks for showing this!

  • Marriott = God... 'nuff said !

  • Can't believe this track was only a B-side. The combination of the hammond and fender rhodes works so beautifully. Just wish Stevie was still around, because you know he'd still be out there showing the kids how it's done

  • I love this band. Would you call this Rock n Soul?

  • One of the best rock songs of all time!!!

  • oh lucky you, send him my way next time he appears in your dreams...search for steve marriott on ebay and look for the most expensive item, it's probably no. 2. i was going to paste the link here but it must be verboten here!

    it's a lovely picture of our stevie...unfortunately $225

  • i was 15 years old-me and my buddy snuck out and hitched 50 miles to San francisco Fillmore West to see Humble Pie-they were last bill so they were on first and we got there late and heard the last few notes of their encore song!DAMN!!...I'll always regret it...Did get to see them w/o frampton which was still epic...Marriott:consummate showman/lead vocalist.....RIP

  • All things considered my favorite Marriott song, as the Poacher is my fav Lane song.

  • Beautiful song. Fatefully, i loved itchycoo park but totally missed out on small faces, wrong side of the water, whatever, but since rediscovering i am sort of obsessed, LOL. as i don't listen to anything else.

i dont care if there are only 41 comments, they are the best band ever.

I have one friend online that shares Steve with me, he lets us wear his ruffly shirts...what's life without fantasy?

  • @MsArchangelcat

Sorry you have to share him with more than just one smitten soul.

I dreamed he visited me one night and is quite bemused by all of us.

    But he's happy now.

  • @MsArchangelcat Ooo, that sounds like fun. :) I love his ruffly shirts, and fantasies about Steve...And him out of his ruffly shirts. haha. I really need to write this stuff down. In a place where no one shall find it. haha

  • @wouldntyoulike2know

yes, in and out of his shirt. indeeed. if you want to see a wonderful photo of steve shirtless go to ebay and search:

Steve Marriott c.1969 Original B&W Rock n Roll Photo

  • @MsArchangelcat Oh yes, I have seen that photo. It is very epic. I love it. I have yet to see a photo of Steve in which I do not swoon over. hehe

  • @wouldntyoulike2know

agree. he was beautiful from day one to that fateful day in april. and the most talented performer ever in my opinion. thank goddess for you tube...

  • @MsArchangelcat Absolutely right! And youtube has enlightened me so many times, not just over Steve but other artists too. :) Its a nice place for the most part. :)

  • Great, great song, with a catchy bass line!

  • Brilliant B-sides: Understanding, I'm only dreaming, Donkey rides, Wrist job, Strange days...

  • who played keyboards on this ....awesome hammond.

  • A man has one of these for life

  • Comment removed

  • The reason this song sounds so much like the Small Faces is because it was already worked up by them in the last days of the group--an instrumental outtake sounding *very* similar to this is out there on compilations, with the working title "Pig Trotters", I think. It was clearly too good to remain an outtake, so Marriott took it to his next band. A masterpiece, maybe my favorite-ever song Marriott ever appeared on.

  • @mtoppper66, Thank-You, I agree on favorite.

  • Brilliant track, Marriotts magic vocals. Nobody like him then or since.

  • FKN GREAT!!!!!!!!)))))))))))) Cheers!!!~~~~~

  • This song is Ogden's 2, the 4 chord riff is l the 4 chord verse in "Song of a Baker", Keyboards dominate, lyrics 3.00-3.05 near "if tomorrow was today, it would be yesterday", no lead guitar, the VOICE, the lyrics, "it was so long ago, like somewhere that I touched, but never been". The drum licks like Jones, Pie were a guitar band, it's as if Steve is saying goodbye to his mates, and honouring them with this song. An unheard B-side with a flippant title, absolute magic Marriott.

  • nice vid

    Thank for sharing

  • Certainly this song had overtones of the Small Faces and stands out as one of the Pie's lesser known classics and much appreciated among the fanbase. But I'm not sure if it was a direct homage to the Small Faces, as the Hammond features on so many other Pie tunes. The title 'Wrist Job' refers to cutting your own wrists rather than anything more ribald. Most probably someone said it was a depressing sounding song and Marriott would have replied "yeah mate, it's f******' wrist job!" Classic song!

  • Cheers, never heard the expression across pond, makes sense, thanks man, it is a sad melancholy sound alright, and lyrics.

  • Comment back there said "melancholy", he gets it, I hear Ogden's Rocked Up add Gospel, and his voice still comes first, even though he keeps the studio vocal volume LOW, like they did on Ogdens, Steve Song.

  • xJayWalkerx, your English is better than most English speaking people on YT. If Wrist Job was your first hearing of Marriott, then your musical taste is spectacular, in my opinion. AND NO JOKING !

  • What a line, "TIMES YA FEEL LIKE LIVIN ON YER OWN"! Can't stay speechless on Marriott, not living on a Continent where he got no respect. Anyone know Big Country? Stuart does same vocal shots as Steve, from the first SCHAAAT that starts "In A Big Country".

  • Not unusual, the A side is just a commercial Berry rip-off, this B side is just magic, brilliant song, "makes ya feel like livin on yer own".

  • Great track, these guys were so good and Marriott's bluesy vocals the best.

  • There's an early instrumental version of this song on a Small Faces compilation.

It's called 'The Pigs Trotters' and it's on the 'The Darlings of Wapping Wharf Launderette' compilation.

  • Thanks for this info schmirtygurt.

  • Wrist Job. Had to be a Marriott title. Nothing dirty about it though. Great organ and piano, for me. And Steve's bluesy cries, he lost his woman and this song is one for those of us who have too. Love you Steve

  • chippy783

Yeah, it's Marriott's song. Actually he wrote it before forming The Pie. He had this song written in his songbook circa 1968 along with The Autumn Stone, Red Balloon ,.Colibosher ,Buttermilk Boy , Wide Eyed Girl On The Wall and Donkey Rides, A Penny, A Glass .

Who knows maybe if he didn't leave The Small Faces, this song would have appeared on their next studio album.

  • Great comment, just one wee bitty, Red Balloon was Tim Hardin, Marriott liked him, he recorded another Hardin song "If I were a Carpenter" lol

  • yep, of course you're right. SF didn't writhe Red Balloon however Steve really had this song in his songbook. I read the interview with his son Toby who had his songbook but it was stolen from him some years ago.

Ahhh "If I were a Carpenter" - what a great rendition SF did, I love it so much <3

Also I agree with you about "Wrist Job"-this is a fantastic song, one of my absolutely fav from HP catalogue. Also it was the song which introduced me to this band, 14 years ago I heard it on the radio

  • *write

  • You have A 1 great taste, you picked the Greatest out just 14 yrs. ago ? I am speechless.

  • uhm locheelad2 what do you mean? As you already know my English is shitty, lol I never know if you're serious or you have a laugh at me?

  • Your English is great, Communication breakdown, swear to God, I have nothing but respect for your taste in Music.

  • oh lol indeed Communication Breakdown

so you were serious, in that case thank you very much for the compliment :)

  • This song has been posted for nearly 2 years, it only has 24 comments, and most are you and I. Now do you understand that this song was too great for the N. Americans, and everybody else then, they wanted crap like "Grand Funk Railroad".

  • I think there is a lot of truth in what you said but maybe it isn't that popular also because it was only a b-side track and you can't find it on 'As Safe As Yesterday Is' and that LP wasn't even originally released in US.

Technically from what I've read HP's self titled 3rd LP was their USA debut LP.

Fortunately now "Wrist Job" is on "Natural Born Bugie"- The Immediate anthology. :)

  • @locheelad2 hey man gfr rocked and so did the pie

  • Right-on...We love ya and miss ya Steve.

  • I won't look, bet your a girl, no it's not dirty, I always said "show me a guy who says he never had a wank, and I'll show you a liar".

  • What a great song. I was too young to appreciate it at the time but now I can. I may be wrong but to me it has a sadness about it, almost as if it is saying goodbye to the 60's. What was and what will never be again. I actually caught Steve Marriot's Packet of Three a few times in the mid 80's and to this day they were the finest live rock gigs I have been to. Steve Marriot RIP.

  • Yeah man,it has a real melancholy about it doesnt it?

Shine on Steve Marriot you fucking beauty!

  • great bass line. The forgotten 70s eh?

  • probably the best 45 ever

  • My favourite Humble Pie Song!

The Organ and Vocals get me every time, they literally make my hairs stand on end.

    Wooh... What a ride!!!

  • @15chipshops Humble Pie was outstanding!!! This song is as well,Classic!! Don't beat me up too bad. But I had always thought of Humble Pie to be somewhere in between Emerson,Lake & Palmer and Deep Purple. All of which of course were outstanding in their prime!!! Yeah I have too agree with you on the organ 100% !!!

  • this was the B side of Natural Born Bugie. I loved this, particularly Gregs bass lines. Great vocals, organ and drums. Was on the reissued Safe as Yesterday is. Reminds me of being 16 and full of angst.

  • Thank you!!
