  • 1.Shes asian. Whats wrong for an asian(korean) to have an accent? Only american or canadian or australian can sing in english?

2.Actually shes born in US. So her accent- when she speaks english totally american. No british accent or no korean or japanese or other chinese accent. 3. Fun to find out people who talks about her accent aint born in or american at all :D

  • I don't know why people don't like her ! I think she is great ! And LMAO at people criticizing her pronunciation saying she has a korean accent !!! She is Korean-American, was born and raised in the US !! I see this a lot on youtube, people criticizing the accent of Korean stars not realizing that some of the people they are criticizing are actually Korean-Americans !! I'm guessing the people who are doing it, are not native speakers themselves.

  • You know? When people say she sings bad I laugh, cos, honestly, it reminds me of the people (a lot who think they know something about music) that listen to someone singing really high notes and falsetto perfectly and say "agh, it's horrible he/she can't sing at all." No dear, only cos you can't stand it, or it's not pleasant to you doesn't mean he/she is not doing it well.

Like with Lena Park. She has a very unique voice, that's easy to not like, but she is a great singer after all.

  • this sounded pretty bad compared to phil collins and mariah carey... i admire her courage to try doing her own rendition... but it sounded pretty bad

  • @dotkyo Bad? Lmao this sounded way too different from Phils and Mariahs performances. She did beyond good, though I prefer Collins' version.

  • I prefer the original by Phil Collins. she's very good though.

  • she is unique but terrible

  • @u06jp6com shes the best female singer in korea and possibly the world because i personally think she is better than mariah carey so i dont know where your getting your "terrible" judgement from but you have your own opinions so i understand. Still really..."terrible"? Can you sing like her?

  • Her accent? Lena Park, also known as 박정현 (Park Jung-hyun), was born March 23, 1976 in Los Angeles, California.... so what accent, Southern Cali accent?

  • You accent is wonderful for singing! You are very talented and unique!

  • @RededicatedDaily uhh she was born in cali, lived and raised there. and attended UCLA then graduated from Ivy league Colombia University with major in english with every awards that can be given to a graduate. also had the honor to sing the US national anthem at the graduation. its ur stereotype that hears the accent in her.

  • @atomist21 Because I know you can't be that dumb, to see that I gave her a compliment and still feel the need to make a smart remark, I will assume that you meant that comment for someone else. Saying someone has an accent should not bother anyone. I am told I have an accent and I have lived in the US all of my life. I take it as a compliment. You should feel no obligation to respond, as I understand, we all make mistakes and any comment further would be a waste of everyone's time.

  • Here you go, this is the definition of Accent:

Noun: A distinctive mode of pronunciation of a language, esp. one associated with a particular nation, locality, or social class.

So you understand why this is not disrespectful, just an observation.

  • lol at people saying she has a korean accent. that isn't an accent! she's still a korean afterall, the way she pronounces some words are different than an american, but that isn't an accent.

  • @WWLOVEDoubleHJ

"the way she pronounces some words are different than an american"

that's the very definition of an accent... What are you talking about?

  • @spl0uf that's funny...... u have an American accent. what are you talking about? american english is superior?

  • her voice kinda reminds me of cyndi lauper... don't ask y but it just does...

  • This was my fav song...but thanks to her its not anymore >:(

  • she cant pronounce, so this sucks!

  • wtf.. shes singing for gods sake. you dumbasses actually think she would talk like that in real life? you guys dont have common sense?

  • Does Lena have an accent? Yes, southern californian accent. Californian girls vowel a lot rolling their tongues whenever possible. Does Lena have a Korean accent? Maybe not. She was born and raised and educated in California until 21 when she decided to move to Korea for her career. Lena is a truly talented artist, in some ways better than Mariah Carey, although not in some other ways. Still I think they are incomparable. They are both unique. And unique singers shouldn't sing like others.

  • i'm korean i know she's a us citizen and fluent in english but she has terribly vowels when singing english songs. i wouldnt call it an accent it's just poor vowel production. but of course because she's asian people assume it's an accent. but either way the way she sings the lyrics sounds different from the average american artist.

  • i don't get how people say she has a korean accent. I'm from the US and she does not have an accent.

  • Wow.....The Drummer fucked up the One Most Famous Drumfill in the Music World on National TV!!! :D

  • hmmm she did it with her very own version and i love how she did it... ^__^

  • She has a very very thin voice....

  • Wow... she's got a really touching and unusual voice... I love her version of this song! Since I'm German and don't know her I've gotta ask: Is she a big star in Korea or is this some kind of a talent show or something?

  • @mohnmarzipan1 She's not that famous but very talented and kinda famous star. She's not an idol or anything but many people love her, and I too think she's one of the greatest vocalist in Korea.

  • @mohnmarzipan1 she is blg star.

  • @mohnmarzipan1 well I wouldn't say she's a BIG star, because not many people are familiar with her singing. She is indeed a very talented singer, but she just doesn't get enough attention from the public for her talent. And this isn't a talent show much; it's rather like a program where celebrities appear and sing and talk (but not just singers appear; actors, etc too)^^

  • mariah? You mean the fatty? I once went to her live concert, it wasn't great at all.

  • well thats not amazing at all *sarcasm*

  • Wow she's great! And love it how she's not completely copying Mariah's version! Good on her!!

  • Anime Voice ;x

  • her voice is too ....um...how to put it....THIN...her voice is too thin....if u listen to mariah's voice...its just so full...lol i dont know the corrrect terminology but thats how lena's voice sounds...thin ..lol

  • Amazing performance !!! I wish can sing like that !!!

  • typical korean accent nothing special

  • I agree, she sounds like she has an accent. She's a good singer and this performance was pretty damn good!

  • Just check her bio and u'll find she's american.

She didnt know korean when she debuted; although now she does

  • @iagunish

She is american. Yet many say she has an accent...

She actually won several times at Gospel singing contests.

Now we know that many of these wannabe critics are only of prejudice.

  • @zoozak I noticed that too... sometimes it seems she has a strange accent while talking in english.

What is sure is that she has improved korean a lot, and that she still has a quite strong accent. She appeared around a week ago in Yu Huiyeol's Sketchbook, and it was kindda funny listening her talking korean.

Anyway all that matters (to me) is her effort to learn korean, and the amazing voice she has. Dont care what people say cuz the only thing they like is gossip

  • I don't like her voice and her pronounciation is soooo korean:(

  • @yds00418 she's an american foo

  • @alexpark82 then how come her pronounciation sounds korean? one thing for sure she doesn't sound american.

  • @yds00418

Then you obviously have not heard Korean trying to speak English.

As others have mentioned already, she was born in the states and her first language is English. Prejudice against Asians much?

  • @moonbal dude. I AM KOREAN

  • she's so amazing!! just how many languages she can use?? jap, eng, and korean.. ahaha

  • What's so wrong to have korean accent if you're korean... no matter what the paperwork says.. if you're carrying korean blood, then you're korean

  • Amazing voice !!!!

  • @hyperteenage haha Korean accent? Record ur English and listen. That's what we called KOREAN ACCENT.

  • her tongue is eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee..........

  • not that good.. the korean accent is still there... flirt version i could say...

  • @hyperteenage Korean accent O_o? Really? I find that a bit ludicrous considering she's a US citizen, fluent in English...

  • @KraXoom i wrote here what i want to say that's my opinion... she's fluent but still got a korean acc.

  • @hyperteenage but that's not an opinion XD the FACT is, she's a US citizen fluent in English without an accent. For whatever reason you're hearing an accent is on your own accord. I think what you meant is "In my opinion I hear a Korean accent" but by stating she has a Korean accent you're claiming a fact which happens to be false.

  • @hyperteenage do you even know how English with korean accent sounds like? LOL.

  • @steven0007 yes i know coz im living here now in korea....

  • @hyperteenage She was born in America and wasn't even able to speak Korean until she came back to Korea at the middle of 90's.

  • Straight from the Heart

  • it is different... you know... I was used to Mariah´s version... but she has a sweet voice for sure... I wonder what a Spanish song would be from her.... uuuu!!!

  • it wil never b like the real one.but her voice! is something else man, such clarity n such soulness ITS REALLY AGAINST ALL ODDS.Realy enjoy it.

  • doesnt ever match up with the mariah carey

  • @jusmitajasmin at least she aint singing for dogs half the time...

  • nice!

  • i love more the original song..

  • flirt singing

  • is there anyone who understands how higher is her song than the original one??? i think it is 4 semikeys (2 keys) more than the original... don't you??? i need to know it 'cause i have to sing it for a casting. thank you!!

  • OMG! really good!!!

  • GOOD!

  • i like it

  • she sing so beautiful

  • she makes me goosebumps whenever sining a song...

    God-given talented singer she is.

  • *gawk

    that's amazing

  • que voz lindaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • If you really think her voice is not strong enough, see "You raise me up" by Lena Park and you'll eat your words..

  • I think her English is good. Her performance was great!

  • she's korean-american. she's from los angeles. XD

  • We has same Geometry Class back in 91,Warren High School in Downey,CA

  • You should have spent less time in Geometry class and more in English class =P

  • I think sniper4usmc might have made a mistake, cause you know 's' is right next to 'd' in keyboards

  • it still should have been we had THE same Geometry class

  • Oh, please, who cares?

We are not taking a writing test or a spelling bee here, but we are sharing videos and our thoughts! Everyone makes mistakes, and I think you shouldn't be so sarcastic about it.

  • clearly you seem to care because your getting all worked up about it, you need to relax and know there's spmething called a joke.

  • You are the one who has to know what a joke is. I don't think you made a joke, but you just humiliated that poor guy.

and now you're trying to justify yourself saying that I have no sense of humor.

If you were really joking, you could have said "Oh, I was just joking' instead of pointing out 'THE same class'. you are the one who has made it NOT funny.

  • see the fact i would need to say that its a joke to make you understand that its a joke show you have no sense of humor...now run along =)

  • Well, you think you're a pretty funny guy, but I don't think you are. Your jokes didn't seem like jokes, and they were not even funny. If you thought you were funny, than I have no more thing to say.=b

  • you didnt think they were funny because you have no sense of humor, weve already gone over this...do you suffer from down syndrome and need things told to you multiple times before you understand?

  • Comment removed

  • Yea, I really did ask others=)You thought you were a jerk? oh, I thought Your jokes were hilarious as hell, and you were so damn cool. lol You feel good to hear what you've wanted to hear? I'm out of this conversation, it's ridiculous.

  • No, I know im a jerk lol and thank you for admitting that =p

  • oh, and please try to make a better joke next time. I think you can do more than this=)

  • both of you shut up esp. you. stop making stupid jokes... it has nothing to do with the video

  • she doesnt sound english when she sings, its ...sloppy

  • good!

  • lol. I love the sound the audience makes!

    good job lena.

  • That was great. Ignore the other stupid comments about English. Thanks for posting this. This is one of my favorite songs and your voice is beautiful.

  • When you sing you can't pronounce every word exactly

especial if its a high note

  • She was born in L.A. Her English is good enough, thank you very much.

  • she's american, in fact when she first debuted they had a bit of a problem because she couldn't speak korean well enough

    알지도 못하면서

  • She is R&B, and the song isn't. Thus, it sounds awkard. Bad song choice, but she does have beautiful voice.

  • It's so funny to see those who criticize her pronunciation. She's American. Actually, her Korean doesn't sound like native Korean.

  • Jalena X, for your information, she grew up in California. Yes, which means she's fluent in English. If this sounds like she has to work on her English, I think you should get your hearing checked. She's expressing the words in her own way, emphasizing them in her own unique way. Unlike you, she knows what she's doing with the song.

  • she speaks english much better than you.... JalenaX...... and you.... really need to grow up.....

  • she's born in America... huh!

  • Lmao~~ u should work on ur english....lol

  • Let me see. Did you attene Columbia University? No. So shut the hell up about her English. Fucking IDIOT!

  • You racist...you!

Why did you even watch this if you hate "yellow" people so much?

And just so you know, she was born in the states.

Dessutom, putte, ppl? om du nu är så lat att du inte ens klarar av att skriva hela ordet så borde du kanske inte klaga på andra människors språkbruk. Dessutom så säger man "learn HOW to speak English". Idiot.

  • wow amazing...

  • omG

    ...

  • wow. . . amazing voice <3

  • I think she has a pretty voice in a Minnie Riperton sort of /free style / jazzy way. Her voice is very different than Mariah Carey's - can't compare apples and oranges - they're both good!

Search "Dance with me - Chemistry and Lena Park" if you want to hear some of her high notes - she does have range.

  • Ms Carey freaks me out. For me, better no comparisons with her, thanks ;)

  • yeah i know... that's just her singing voice. she doesn't have to try to be mariah carey. she's a great singer

  • "she doesn't have to try to be mariah carey" - no, PLEASE. NEVER. :P

  • japanphil,.. u got fuckin issues ...

  • japanphil, shut up goddamm dude, of course she cant pronounce some of the words english aint her first language, your simon cowell with pmt, now you shut up shes ok doosh bag!!

  • Nice voice.

  • Ummm...japanphil you are right, you are free to say whatever *BUT* why are you back here again if you can't stand her voice? Get a life already! Just my two cents...lolz

  • hate na hate ko tlga mga pinoy... puro na lang panlalait wala na namang binatbat! grrr.... LOVE U LENA!

  • ew! bulag ka cguro... im not flaming anyone, im just stating the truth... pa-critic kuno mga pinoy, gusto my makita negative sa lahat ng bagay, kung maganda ka hahanapan ka ng pangit, kung magaling ka kumanta hahanapan ka ng d mo kayang kantahin, ah basta sobrang dami... mas madami neg keysa positive, nahihirapan tyo tuloy umasenso.

  • dami mo satsat!

    may nonsense speech ka pa!

bat di ka nalang tumakbo pagka presidente!?

    para kuntrolado mo lahat!!!

    engot!!!

  • whatever <_<

  • cool..she has a style bringing the song...this song si quite high but it depend s how your rock on it...but not bad she has a voice...

  • she's korean, not chinese..

  • oh you poor japanese war criminals' descendant...

    Just feel it.

Don't let your eyes deluded by your hatred and prejudice.

    So poor.

  • an indirect personal insult can't be appreciated with the argument 'i'm free to say it'.

Especially if you want to take part in our morality/ethnicality-based society.

But I assume that is to much for you to understand.

    poor hikikomori.

  • you're an embarassment to the japanese and filipinos with your ignorance

  • pretty awesome ^^, she actually sounded pretty awesome when she sings live. well, it's not live for people watching this video but she sounds amazing even not in a recording room, her real voice, best i've heard

  • hmmmm...

  • such a stunning voice coming from a petite body. She's my favorite.

  • That is really good for a live performance. There isnt any real wailing. Not like moat pop singers that love to lip sync like Miss Spears. hahahaa

  • What a beautiful voice,beautiful face..one of my favorite song done superbly..(i hope that's a word)

  • I just most say this.. (and now I have no idea how her care <-- sorry bad spelling.. started) I wonder if she were this litle lump of coal that turned into a diamond when she started to sing. She is pretty,a great voice, and she is among those that you can both look and just listen to, when she sings. Two thumbs up for this girl! XD

  • Lena really made the song to her style. Actually I couldn't tell what was the original song first time I listened.

But I like her version, too :)

  • lena should really debut in the US..shes Korean American anyway...

  • well her rendition is interesting, but a lot of words didn't pronoundced well.Sorry it is my own opinion and YES she did a good JOB.

  • she said "Against all Adds" heheheh

  • her pronunciation is really BADDDDDD
