What kind of pressure is that air balance cylinder operating at? I saw one in Lomita California that was operating in the area of 320 psi with a "Quincy QR 325" compressor pump. Will that air balance cylinder lift the entire rod string if the motor was off? What kind of seals or rings are in that air balance cylinder and how often do they need to be serviced? Is that one also equipped with a "Quincy" QR series pump, they seem to be the best around......
According to Lufkin Industries' history book "From Sawdust to Oil," they bought the rights to produce these airbalance designs in 1953. If you watch the old movie "Giant," based on the Edna Ferber novel and produced in the 1950's, there is a brief "Texas" shot of a whole bunch of these critters lined up like birds in the wilderness in two straight rows, all pumping -- probably all Lacy units and probably, in reality, on Long Beach California. Nice videa of this historic unit, by the way!
Cool .... I glad to see someone show these units in a positive light. I grow just north of there. Santa Maria Valley . And my dad know the Lacy family thought owning hes own pumping unit service company (PUMPJACK SERVICE AND REPAIR) from about 1976 to 96' .....I could tell you where some are in the SM Valley. The smallest (80 Lufkin)(about seven feet tall) of the air balance and (1824) almost three stories tall. We worked on them all. Also there are some wooden lufkins units in the SM valley
Lacy was the pioneer of air balance units, later Lufkin bought the rights from Lacy to produce their own air balanced units. Thats why Lufkin air balance units look very similar the the Lacy brand. The Lacy units on my video have Lufkin 114 gear boxes on them. Although Lacy no longer manufactures units, they still have a shop in Wilmington, CA. "Lacy oil tool", headed by Fred Lacy (I think the son of the original Lacy. They still service pumping units of all brands in the oilfields.
Thanks for the info on these rare units, I had noticed the Lufkin units look allot similar but didn't know they bought Lacy out. I've heard about that shop over in Wilmington but have never made it over there or anything. Thanks for the info and keep recording your pumpjacks!

The Olinda oilfield, is it a heavyoil field?
A nice Air Balanced Pumpjack.
Is it a Lufkin or a Bulldog Unit?

Yes, the oil is very heavy.
It is a "Lacy", a rare manufacturer.
I still need to make it over to Sansinena to video the wells south of Canada sombre.
