If you've got some really flat-fresh snow you can get it up to about 20 Mph but because of the short length of the tracks it'll start "porpoising" where the nose starts rocking up and down so you have to watch it.
Just received a snowcat "upgrade". A 1982 DMC 1450 8-person cat that we just re-conditioned. 1969 Ford 6 & auto also. Hope we get some snow in Yosemite soon to give it a run. The DMC only had 90 hours on it and it purrs. It was parked in a company yard for 20+ years abandoned & unloved. We only go to 7800ft though....
Well, you're partly correct. It's got a V4 Ford Industrial Engine in it - came that way from the factory HOWEVER, it does have a VW carburator in it because the stock ford carbs became unavailable. I owned a new 1964 VW with an extractor exhaust on it and IT DID sound like this. Good call-Thanks.
Dawg, that was a Cushman Trackster - much smaller.
The 'marsh' model had a skirt that would allow it to float.

There used to be a similar vehicle - on tracs - that could also float in water and was lime green. Anyone remember the name?

It''ll go about 20mph on really flat-fresh snow but it tends have the nose rock up and down at that speed because of the short length of the tracks.
