No doubt about it, their turns are really, really good. But I really don't like their dances... like, at all. They're too typical competition school. However, it is a little relieving to watch them do their competition dances because I've seen a million turn sections choreographed like these, but at least DSD has the good grace to execute their turns correctly and in sync.

Spinning is when you have no real control over the turn. These kids are turning. Most can stop their pirouettes on a dime, in just about any position.

dance isnt just about technique, i love how dance has transformed. im not saying technique doesnt matter but dance is about expression and is the one art for of your entire body that allows you to show who you want to be and how you feel.. to show how much you love to dance.. im not saying your wrong at all its awesome that your strictly ballet.. but dance will always be dance its just a lot more open and free now and people do it just because the love to

I found this funny. The former chair of the dance department at Hope College was running one of my rehearsals tonight. She said for choreography, "When in doubt turn." Her reasoning was because it keeps the energy going and up on stage. Never thought about it that way before. Maybe that's what Debbie was always doing. These types of dances she always wanted to keep the energy up.

slutty costumes and how flexible you are and how many turns you can do isn't dancing. dancing should a way of expressing emotion through your bodyfocusing on details so you can tell a story!! in no way is this dancing

Yes, we all know DSD is amazing. But turns is not gonna win a competition for you. I've seen improvement with their style though. Their learning style slowly but surely. We're competiting against them in feb.

DSD dancers are PHENOMENAL... but they always do too many turns and the same ten or so moves over and over. Would love to see them use some imagination and a new choreographer.

I wish you could see more content. Everyone knows they can turn. We competed against them this year and pretty much the first dance you were amazed but by the end of the day the dances all looked the same, the music was just different. I'm not saying they are not amazing dancers but have some fun and do something other than turn. There is no imagination.

Did someone really say that they had sloppy spotting? It's not possible to do the turn combos that they do if you have sloppy spotting. Their dances are a little too "dance teamish" for my taste, but they are really talented. There's no denying that.

your studio has amazing turns!! however, i do have one complaint. they seem to turn in their foot when they prep. i have seen this numerous times and thought that you should be aware. other than that, they are FANTASTIC!! how many hours a week and how many hours of technique?

yeah, i know. it is one of the things that needs to be worked on. that and a higher releve. most have 6-10 hrs of technique classes a week and then a lot more hrs of rehearsals.

I was never one of the natural turners, so it took a lot of work for me to get 4. I also was never one of the chosen ones so I never got to work on the longer combinations. I can do some of them, but I'm not as consistant because I did not have the repitition or the pressure. You have no idea how motivating pressure can be, at least for me.

The day Debbie drilled our 4 pirouettes I was determined to land all of them. I did not want to be moved to the double section. I told myself I was going to do it and I did. Self-motivation helps a lot.

Other then that, a good prep, high releve, high passe, straight supporting leg, good, steady spot.
