Isn't it great when the director knows the piece he's directing? The doctor sings 'E spenta!' which means she's gone and everybody else declares their pain only to prompt Violetta to actually die thereafter (hence the falling down of the left arm). Just great when people really pay attention to the text and the music!
j'ai vu la traviata avec Anna netrebko, i like her power of her voice,! beautiful, but i have to agree that Renée Fleming it's very expressive! she a real violetta in her last hours-.! je l'aime!! , si que j'ai achté le dvd de cet opera! ;D
Now this is a Traviata ending that moves!! Renes's chldlike behavior when she sings that the spasms of pain have ceased is so moving. Renee really surprised me in this role when I saw her performance at the MET. She is a wonderful in the is role. I am so moved by her Violetta.
I saw this production and was blown awayy. Plus, Bruson had retired and came to sing this due to the other baritone's illness. A tour de force for sure.
I have to agree there. Fleming was better in her prime but still sings well and I'd take her any day over Gheorghiu and especially Netrebko, who would probably not be famous at all without her looks.

Best death scene EVER in La Traviata, the desperate kiss and she dying in his arms were just glorious! *.*

Agreed Elisabetta!

I was sceptical re: Renee doing Violetta...
But she's won me over. Most expressive Violetta of the last 20 years. Certainly better than Netrebko and Gheorghiu!

OMG totally agree. I mean Gheorghiu was the best living Violetta until I saw Fleming do it.
For Netrebko, seriously, Lucia? AND getting picked OVER DESSAY for a Lucia DVD? What are the Grammphon people thinking?>
Netrebko deserves a Lucia DVD and not Dessay?

Agreed. :)

This comment has received too many negative votes show
you know, when Renaaay actually limits herself to sing what's written and doesn't add her own rythm and accents she actually manages to sound good.

OMG... the dialogue part was absolutely hillarious! Violetta turned into Lucia!

That's heartbreaking.
I`ve never seen such an intense death. Fleming is wonderfull, and Villazóns is the best Alfredo I can imagine.
I'm sitting hear in front of my PC and I'm crying.

Bravissima, Renée !
Villazón is the perfect Alfredo to the best Violetta on today´s opera stage.
And Bruson completes this incredible trio.
Bravissimi !!!
