I love your first "optimism/pessimism" quote. While I don't think I'm a pessimist, I try to be in that mindset when I'm about to do something important, as to not too horribly depress myself if by chance I fail (but I'm a "hopeful" person at heart, which leads to a lot of disappointment in life).
