@NGC773 I'm afraid they did and air power experts agree on this. The Polish squadrons were deployed at the very instant when British air superiority was failing over their own skies and about to break. It was the pivotal nature of this moment in the air war that allowed the British and commonwealth air forces to recover and prevent an invasion by land. Just as the South Africans, Australians and Indians turned the war in the north African desert. Britain and particularly London owes them a debt.

@CompactJam Britain doesnt owe anyone a debt. It was a world war, a combined effort from dozens of countries. If the UK fell then Hitler would have most certainly kept Europe and you would be speaking German

@NGC773 Aber ich sprech Deutch. And no I'm not German either or British but people of my nation fought on both sides so I have no particular view about who was right or wrong. I had noticed that it was a global conflict but thanks for stating the obvious. None of that changes the fact that the Polish aircrews protected London and the seat of government at the most crucial time of the war. Simply acknowledging this fact and paying respect to them does no harm to anyone.

Great vid, very well done. Yes, there were more Hurricanes than Spits at the Battle of Britain, but the image of the Spit has gone down in history; great design! The British were also usually outnumbered by 3 or 4 to one but thanks to the pilots and new radar, we won. My German buddy Kluas is eternally grateful, because thanks to that part of history, he grew up with democrasy...and rock music!! :) Don't you love it? :)

Jonathan9163 - the speeches were honest (certainly compared with Hitler's) which would have been appreciated by the British of the period & also very stirring.The latter was vital given the enemy was less than 20 miles away.We know Churchill was sentimental, racist, anti-female suffrage etc etc but the speeches boosted the battered civilian population. Can tweets & blogs have the same effect?Look them up - they're worth it:)

Just watched a Quiz Show (English) on tv. In answer to the question "Who were The Few?", this young Englishman replied, after a long pause, "The soldiers on the beaches". WHAT WHAT WHAT is being taught in our schools. Sorry. I should be grateful he got the right war, but to lose our history within one generation is nothing short of tragic. I'm not glorifying war but to be so totally uninformed about one the most rousing speeches in the English language beggars belief.

@Insperato62 your so right,my 22 year old sons girlfriend came in as i was watching the battle of britain.........whats the battle of britain she says......it realy hits home just how low the education system is sinking.i asked her about history and she tells me they did chairman mao...................he really did a lot for our country.....i found it quite shocking that the teachers are allowed to get away with this

The pilot in the 109 was able to bail out yet his plane enhulfed in flames. Why didn't the pilot in that 1st Stuka bail out if he just had his wing shot off? Or did I miss something...

Spits shouldent have the 20mm cannon as only a handfull were fitted as prototypes and kept jamming at the latter stages of the battle. If they had of worked during this period few Gerrman bombers would have made it back to France. Apart from that nice.

I think it doesn't mater what kind of fighter plane it is in a dogfight (if it is fighter plane vs fighter) because if who got chased no matter what kind of fighter plane it is it will loose because fighter planes dont't have guns at their back and even though they have guns at the back, guns at back can,t kill a plane.

@angelogabrielgeulin in many circumstances, if your plane is superior you can out manoeuvre your aircraft from the chase, so the superiority of the aircraft matters a lot.

The Hurricane is underrated. Same engines as Spit's. Slightly less turn radius than a 109, but even a Spit couldn't match a late 109's rate of climb.

BF-109's were nick-named yellow/ red - nosed bastards according to the wing tip and nose of the plane. Anyway, nice vid and the cockpit views were splendid

Although the Spitfire, perhaps, is the most beautiful wwii airplane, the Hurricane hit down more german planes than Spitfire, that's the real history.

ME 109 was a better plane during the battle of Britain as it has direct petrol injection which meant unlike the Spitfire (Carburettor ) that it wouldn't stall. During steep dives and climbs the flaot chamber in the Spitfires Carburettor would flood with fuel causing the engine to stall.

@bloobear1 Yes the 109 had direct injection. Yes it did not stall right away under neg g-push-over like the spit did. That was about the only advantage the 109 had. The Spit Mk1 with variable speed prop was faster (below 30k feet) than the 109E, turned much tighter (much lower wing loading) and climbed significantly faster than the 109E. Post BofB the 109F was vastly improved - especially the 109F4 model. btw neither spit or 109 stalled from climb - climbing is positive g-load.
