  • What gets rid of all the "gunk thats on it" is a static electricity charge that zaps any remaining dust particles on the freshly cleaved glass.

  • This is the same machine i did my first splicing on.

  • You don't need a certification to use these machines. They're simple to use, but slightly difficult to get the parameters right on such as "gap distance", "prefusion time", "fusion voltage", etc.

  • anybody in australia who is a splicer or knows any companies that do fiber work, please contact me!

  • 0.02 lolll on my 1st time

  • Does the operator need to know how to do anything or is this a fully automated process?

  • You have to get certified.

  • And someone that terminates fiber will charge you anywhere from $500-thousands of dollars just for one termination.

  • BTW the piece of equipment is like $30,000.00 dollars

  • SilentKiller: The smal box in the front is called a cleaver. It cuts the fiber to give it a perfect edge. The larger box is the splice machine which attaches the 2 ends together with a very hot arc. You catch on quickly!

  • in the beginning the small box he was using is that to make a perfect?

and the machine melts the two end together ?

    (the large machine)

  • ure heater has run out.. and only on ure 3rd splice by the looks of things.. ha ha!!

wont get a 240 done in a day like that!!

  • How do you do cable splicing? I want to work for Edison!

  • splicing is simple and easy.. u just need to know the color coding.. the fibers should be clean (no dust - no liquid) before you put in a fusion machine..

  • cool dude..Thanks!

  • i have spliced fiber with telstra for about 15years...I cant believe that york cleaver still works rofl. BTW i use the fuji as well...:)

  • I worked at Tycom in NewHampshire they used to do this.

    Donald

  • I remember doing this shit in HS as a part time job.

  • Yes, this cleaver in video is stupid.

  • I worked as a design engineer for York Technology. The cleaver was a flash of genius! Using an ultrasonic horn to cleave optical fibre! BTW, one of the founders of York Technology, Professor David Payne, and inventor of the erbium-doped fibre amplifier, has a CBE and a KELVIN Award, was recently awarded a MARCONI Prize for his inventions that changed the progress of mankind...I would hang on to the cleaver!

  • You wanna get yourself a new cleaver to go with that Fuji 50 mate
