I went there, I have a photo of me surrounded by about a thousand Japanese tourists. They photographed everything including the floor, the SF gates plus some dog poo if I'm not mistaken.
To Mickey...definitely not butchered. And even if it wasn't played exactly as you remember or liked it, who cares...it was about 3 weeks after 9/11 and was great to hear at the time...and needed.
it's great to see fans covering their favorites artists although i prefer listening to the better ones such as this but i prefer ben harper's version to this one.
I think it's nice that she explains a bit about the history of the real Strwberry Fields at the start. It was still owned by the Salvation Army but ran by Liverpool Social Service in it's last years. Sad that it's closed down now!
really amazing..the first time i heard her singing this, there was something very different and it really moved me...lots of emotions are coming out whenever she sings...and you can actually feel it...
I like lennons verrsion but i have to admit you add a touch of uniqueness... i love your voice. It's so unique and you know how to sing, lennon really did not know how to sing... he just got used to doing what he did best.
Lennon had an ego the size of new york city. He had communist idea's that were dwarfed only by his rivalry with Paul. I'm just saying. LENNON RULES!!!!
I agree. It's different but I think it's really good. Best Beatle cover I ever heard is Regina Spektor doing Real Love live at Lollapalooza. It's on You Tube.
To call her a poor singer just shows how ignorant you are - look up live performances such as I'm Gonna Be Strong and then try to say the same thing... you'll only end up looking ridiculous. Plus - this is a tribute! Hardly shows a lack of inspiration, just shows a love for one of her favourite bands. If you knew anything about her work you would not be implying that she is uninspired.
Objectivity of a fan is dificult to interpret. That's the problems with fans. I like singers myself who aren't really good singers, and it's no big deal for me. And to call me ignorant at the same time shows your ignorance as well, so we apparently are both ignorant (I don't mind).
If you had simply said that you didn't like her voice then that would have been fine, but whether she is a poor singer or not is not exactly subjective. @akoppen Please, before you open that sewer-mouth watch this. Just to make u understand she hasn't "a voice like a leprechaun or something". Please, shut up, you make a better impression.
An editor for Rolling Stone called this the best live cover of the year. Shows what you morons know who are dogging it. I;m not a fan of the song personally, but she does an amazing job. I would rather hear her do "Let It Be."
she's got such an impressive range. i didn't know that. i've always liked strawberry fields, the original, but this isn't bad. not bad at all. thanks for sharing.
The song suggests the healing power of music (as a child John loved the Salvation Army band at the Fields)and the confusion faced when we are dealing w. one another (no one is in my tree). But there is also in Cyn's rendition a nudge to people and musicians to open their eyes (living is easy with eyes closed). Cyndi intros. song with words of optimism, channeling Lennon's later work Imagine. These opening words are spoken not only to NYers, I think, but to the world.
It's kind of weird to think about this song with its insane lyrics being sung in Central Park right after 9/11. It probably in a way felt pretty appropriate to the bewildering feeling of the moment.
no, i think she said the real strawberry fields was an orphanage where John grew up...that now they call that area in central park strawberry fields...since his death...in his honor
"Strawberry Fields Forever" & Ever & Ever & Ever..................This has inspired me to take the "Triangularthree" there to feel the spirit and record "Imagine" in Central Park...........Very Cool Cindy........
Wow. I just finished Jan Wenner's book Lennon Remembers and typed lennon tribute into the search. I think he would have loved this performance as it was more than singing. She truly painted a picture. Thanks.

Cyndi, you've improved! This is not nearly as terrible as the way you butchered Lennon's Imagine. It's not just you though, I've noticed how other artists usually destroy your songs as well... even when they're trying to sing with you.

See really is a poor singer. With a voice like a leprechaun or something. If you have a lack of inspiration, just cover the beatles

She's NOT a poor singer, but she may have a voice that is not to everyone's taste, it's a simple as that. It was a cheap attack by someone who clearly had no knowledge of the artist in question and was a bit butthurt that they dared to sing a Beatles song.

I listened to your suggestion "I'm Gonna Be Strong". It's a bit of a Celine Dion song, musically and lyrically not very interesting. Her voice however is better than in Strawberry Fields, but it's not as good/strong as the voice of for instance Sinead O'Connor or Janis Joplin, sorry.
akoppen 3 years ago
....not as strong as janis joplin?
I love janis joplin but...uh cyndi lauper's voice is def stronger.
And Sinead O'Connor doesn't even have the same kind of sound as cyndi lauper so that is irrelevant.
