I took her to the hospital. Thirty minutes later, I'm driving home, my daughter having seen a doctor, had the problem diagnosed and with a prescription in my hand. My out of pocket expense for this? Zero. Nada. A public health care system can work, and the USA should consider it seriously.

KISS broke in Detroit early in their career, and the Motor City had a hard-on for KISS's brand of hard rock and theatrics. So Gene has always given the city props for helping them get a start. I don't respect Gene for being a jack-of-all-trades-master-of-none. It's watered down anything the band has accomplished. KISS today is not the same band as the one that broke in Detroit in the early 70s.

We went to the clinic, saw a doctor and were driving home in the car with a prescription for an antibiotic in hand. Total time: less than 30 minutes. Total out-of-pocket cost to me: $0.00. Mind you, I think our taxes in Canada are higher, but I think it's worth it! Peace of mind has a cost.

I took her to the hospital. Thirty minutes later, I'm driving home, my daughter having seen a doctor, had the problem diagnosed and with a prescription in my hand. My out of pocket expense for this? Zero. Nada. A public health care system can work, and the USA should consider it seriously.

I know - no Stanley Cup since '67, but things are looking up this season! The Flames are great, and I always loved the Nordiques because I hated Montreal. Yep, the Jets are flying again!! I was never at "The Joe" but went to Maple Leaf Gardens many times. Those were the days!

Everyone in Canada wants the American brands - personally, I think Rolling Rock is the best beer on the planet, but you can't get it in Canada. When I go to the States, everyone seems to want Molson products! Then I think to myself - don't we have free trade? Or were the breweries excluded in that deal?!? Get Mulroney and Reagan on the line! "The USA should have took the contracts years ago" I know, but that's a lot of Oil that is going to be spilled up there. They will say "You had your Valdez and Gulf spills, now it's our turn." @IggleOckle With all due respect, it wasn't Gene giving love to Detroit. It was the other way around. KISS broke in Detroit early in their career, and the Motor City had a hard-on for KISS's brand of hard rock and theatrics. So Gene has always given the city props for helping them get a start. I don't respect Gene for being a jack-of-all-trades-master-of-none. It's watered down anything the band has accomplished. KISS today is not the same band as the one that broke in Detroit in the early 70s.

@IggleOckle I always thought that "Detroit Rock City" was written because Detroit was the first city to really embrace KISS. Gene and Paul have talked about this many times - how KISS wasn't really selling many records or concerts tickets, but in Detroit, they were huge. "Alive" was recorded at Cobo Hall. That's why I chose the phrase "broke in Detroit", meaning Detroit really discovered KISS before the rest of the country caught on. Not long after, they were the biggest band in the world.

Kiss was a very small part of thousands of bands from around the world who payed homage to Motown. Iggy Pop and Bob Seger were selling out stadiums long before Kiss came here. If anything Kiss attached themselves to our tough reputation. The hard rock just works in blue collar places. Old history.

A perfect example of the contrast between paradigms of USA and Canada is the differences btwn. Detroit and Windsor across the river. I was Downtown for the Jazz fest a couple months ago and took minute to ponder, "why?", again.

@greatsupper Good comments! As someone who lives in Canada, I can tell you that the benefits of public health care FAR outweigh the problems. Example: my kid had an ear infection yesterday. We went to the clinic, saw a doctor and were driving home in the car with a prescription for an antibiotic in hand. Total time: less than 30 minutes. Total out-of-pocket cost to me: $0.00. Mind you, I think our taxes in Canada are higher, but I think it's worth it! Peace of mind has a cost.
