@racenemo equipment like this is what the government or aid agencies need to subsidize for poor farmers. It's not about decreasing the demand for labor.. It's about increasing productivity/profit for farmers. Make life livable out in the countryside and they and their families won't have to migrate to big cities like Manila and swell the ranks of the unemployed. Land reform (done correctly) + agricultural modernization are ways to achieve that.
@racenemo if productivity and profit increase, why would they migrate? the kids can now stay in school like they're supposed to. And long term, this means families are less inclined to have too many kids to begin with since one of the reasons for wanting them, ie they can help around the farm, will be eliminated.
the rich wont.. that's why government needs to do it. it's simple. Maslow's hierarchy of needs. food comes before higher education. we were once self sustaining in rice. now we import.
@racenemo also, if we stick to the mindset that we can delay modernization and efficiency because our labor supply can keep up with it, that adds an incentive to KEEP oversupplying labor, ie. to keep on churning out babies. at the same time, we get stuck in this paradigm of intended obsolescence in our industrial and commercial processes, simply to keep the masses employed on a salary that will not ever lift them out of poverty. It becomes a cycle of wage slavery.
@racenemo hell yes, buying this machine to make farmers' job easier doesn't make all filipinos unemployed! there are a lot of job out there and its up to that person to get up on his ass and do that job or do nothing! its all about choice!thats simple!

Filipino farmers don't like planting rice, they wanted to mortgage the land and send their children
abroad. There is no need for that machine in the Philippines.

If machines take over 95% of the labor, the bigger part of families will migrate because they are out of job.
Who will subsidize machines for poor farmers? The rich won't, they rather let the poor starve on the streetside

I'm not saying that myke
Industrialization has brought the western countries to a higher form of labor.
It is just an almost impossibility for poor farmers to obtain the machinery
