@mixtercarl Did the Chart Show have a contract with Mute, whilst I appreciate a lot of bands didn't have video's. Bands on Mute always had their stuff played.
Looking at the previous month's and the following month's Indie Chart and the various chart positions, then this Indie Chart is 30th June 1990 (and not 9th June).
Happy Mondays was #1 on 19th May 1990 edition, but is now #10 so that led me to this conclusion.
* CORRECTION * Happy Mondays was #1 on 14th April & 5th May 1990 edition, but is now #10. Therefore taking that into account and what is played in this edition plus various chart positions it is 16th June 1990 (and not 26th May 1990).
weird how the classics in the chart then are still held up as classics (erasure excluded)

The Chart show was brilliant, you knew it would stop just on the video you hated. This was a great era as well to capture the chart show 1990.

I had this on VHS until my brother taped over it in 1997 - i never thought i'd see it again. Many thanks.
i recall pausing the recording while Erasure were on. They sounded terrible then, even worse now.

* 2ND CORRECTION * This is actually the Indie Chart of 26th May 1990, despite Happy Monday's rapid fall from the top spot. Cheers razdan74.

Why is Erasure in the indie chart? Erasure is electro pop.
jamesb1977 4 years ago
I'm thinking it's because Erasure were on the Mute record label (same as my favourites, Depeche Mode :) ).

They were in it because they were on the record label MUTE which was 'indie'.

Indie just meant Independant back then like it should. Thats why on some of these indie charts PWL stuff is on like Kylie.
