I don't know why the tower failed. All i do know is it is not as simple as explosives at the base.
There are mutliple contributing factors that could have led to a tower falling.
Answer the following:
* Is it possible there were flaws in the steel used to construct the building?
* is it possible that one of the many architects involved in the building overlooked an element.
* Was the building designed to take the force of a 500mph hit from a plane while remaining structurally intact

What i expect happened, is the following:
The force of the plane hitting near the top caused a levering action further down the building. Yes the materials were tested to withstand the impact but as footage of tests will show the test matter moved significantly.
This could and would cause structural damage through the entire building and even the foundations.
Skyscrapers are unnatural things and extremely complex in their design, any number of things could go wrong.
