pretty sure they heard some early sabbath at some point and came up with this... for those who dont know sabbath was around at this point and playing clubs that floyd played...i think its just a point they made. any thing you can do we can too... its not as cool or hard as the sabath but considering the time it was made it pretty awsome and too me says they could produce andy sound that they wanted
Why does it all got to be so terribly loud? For me, frankly, its too loud. I just can't bare it. I happened to have grown up with the string quartet which is a bit softer. So, uh, why does it got to be so loud?
This song came out in 1969. Steppenwolf's Born To Be Wild and Iron Butterfly's Ina Gadda Da Vida and The Beatles Helter Skelter all came out in 1968. So, yeah, one of the first metal songs, but definitely not the first. I wouldn't classify Led Zeppelin as a metal band. I see them more as being blues. Jimmy Page even said that he hated people calling Zep a metal band, but to each their own.
Some people even refer to this song as the first metal song. Its having of metal elements (such as loud vocals, driving drums and riff, and it also has that little extra edge) and the time period for which it came out have people considering this song plus Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath to be the first showings of real metal.
I challenge anyone to point me to a song WRITTEN BEFORE THIS SONG WAS WRITTEN that has this particular sound. In other words, what song stands as a possible influence on this one? And just as an incidental note, it is the existence of songs like this as far back as 1969 that makes me wonder what people mean by insisting so much on "Smells Like Team Spirit"'s novelty.
Well, yes, and I understand what you are saying, but there is something about "The Nile Song" that literally leaps nearly 20 years ahead like no other song that I've yet heard before it was made. Of course it was influenced by precursors but there is a very forward looking heavy metal sound in it that I simply can't find before it.
oh yermate even one of the reply says so ,notice you like led zeppelin my dad was head roadie at the zeppelin knebworth shows aug 4 aug 11 1979 and he worked for freddie bannister promoter and new jones very well and he says the backing on this song sounds like sabbath have a nice day
@cgundddd Syd Barret only started Pink Floyd man he didn't make it what it is, talented as he was he was just a frickin' Looney. Gilmour and Waters, and a little behind the scenes but most of all Wright made Pink Floyd what is now universally accepted as 'Pink Floyd'. So just shut up will you.
Hehehe, yeah I saw the article and a whole bunch of photo's from that event (I'm a member of special David board, members only, and we collected more then 25 pics of the event). You're not the only one who was jealous!!! My god, wat a slutty performance that was of Kate, she was practicly drooling all over him! ;-)
I'm guessing "The Nile Song" and "Ibiza Bar" had to be recorded at the same session, or were created from the same jam the band was rocking out on, thus turning them into two songs.
