  • I love how Flying Snow is all : MY GOWN IS ARROW PROOF!!!!!!!!

  • とても very good

  • OMG i gotta watch this film again its that good.

  • What is the name of the song?

  • HOW THE HECK CAN THOSE WRITERS JUST SIT THERE?!

  • @teencomment Arrows can kill us and our kingdom, but they will never obliterate our culture....those are the words of the calligraphy master before this scene

  • I am studying mandarin. I understand bits here and there, but normally when the king of qin opens with an 'I' statement, he says something that sounds like 'guo ren' at the start, and I cant figure out what he is saying. For example "guo ren(?) ming bai le" -> 'I now understand'. What does he say at the start? if anyone could help that would be cool.

  • @muddwell 'gua ren'(寡人) is the first person pronoun only used by kings or emperors, sort of like 'i' for kings.

its from the phrase '孤家寡人' translated as 'the lonly isolated man' which refers to the loneliness and uniqueness of a true emperor that they often like to discribe them self

u may also comeacross words like gu(孤),zhen(朕)ben wang(本王)which are also simply the pronouns for king

best wishes 4 ur mandarin, glad u choice it ; )

  • @oberonson18 Cheers for the reply and the helpful info. It's kind of taken a backseat to other study, but I'm keen to get back into later.

  • omg so many people must have died while those two fuckers were standing there taking their time talking useless bs....go block the damn arrows already !! lol

  • Thy who love sword will die by the sword!

    That goes same with guns!!

  • I found this scene touching bringing the art of caligraphy and the art of swordsmanship together. Its just another great way to show swords arent just fo hacl and slash of meaningless violence but a art of great honor and knowledge

  • One of the most epic scene's in history, i nearly lost my balls watching.

p.s: Broken sword's artistic skill level is over 9000, if your wondering why his scene was EPIC!!

  • @Necrondth lol XD I was so drawn to this scene as well!

Jet li was so fluid with his movements and flying snow was really graceful!

While Broken Sword has his own moment doing some artistic shit with wind blowing in his hair!

  • his movie is gold... I've watched it 6 times and still luvin' it.

    Jet Li fucking rocks!!!

  • From beginning to end an artistic masterpiece

  • Wasn't there a car commercial based off the scene where Broken Sword is writing the word 'Sword'?

    Great scene by the way!

  • I really liked this movie, but this part I find laughable.

  • epic mopping of the floor with red paint

  • @driftingaw4y yeah....lolhahahah.....what a fail

  • One of the best movies of all time =)

  • Does anyone know where I can get the song that starts at 1:02. It wasnt relased on the OST :(

  • One really have to understand the Chinese language well to be able to fully experience the short but amazing dialogs.

  • @daydreamlately Luckily I have friends from China! ;)

  • I thought kins was spelled like this Quins

  • its spelled Qins

  • Sci-fi?

  • huh?

  • i forgot everything that happened in this movie. who's jet li's character and why is that temple under attack. and why do those people continue to write calligraphy when there're arrows up their asses?

  • please go rent the movie again! it is perhaps my favorite of all time!

  • "Please remember their arrows might destroy our town and topple our kingdom, but they can never obliterate the culture."

I think one of the core messages of the movie was that the human spirit and culture are more powerful than violence. Even though Qin did destroy the other kingdoms and turned itself into an empire, the cultures of the old kingdoms still persist in memory.

As for why they sent an entire legion to attack a calligraphy school, I have no idea. >_>

  • Because this is china

  • Jet Li's character = "The Nameless Warrior"

The calligraphy acadamy(not temple) is under attack because the assassins are there.

And they stay there because they are noble, honourable and disciplined.

  • What is right and what is wrong. Sometimes Wrong is the right. They often contradicts our moral teaching. This film shows how the right and wrong were distinguished between the greater good.

  • the underlying meaning of this film is whats more striking to me, the inaccurate translation of the word 'tanxai' in the american cut. it really does make communism more appealing in a time like this.

  • tanxai, what does it mean, and wheres it appear in the movie?

  • I love Wuxia movies for its beautiful portrayal of ancient Chinese culture and the graceful fight choreography.

  • I love this movie but when i saw it i noticed there was no blood is it unpurpose like symbolicly or i saw a censored version?

  • i love the use of colors, amazing

  • why were they protecting some dude drawing a smiley face?

  • what an amazing movie....n an awesome soundtrack

  • i like how they all just sit and take the arrows, there not dodging them in the temple lol

  • in a way, Flying Snow is stronger than him cos she was fighting those arrows off with her bare hands whereas he needed a sword......

  • actually she was using the dress she was wearing :P

  • ......doesn't that just prove my point? XP

  • People specialize differently. Your point is therefore not proven, because she uses her dress as a weapon/defence and he uses his sword. If they were to switch those, perhaps she would not be able to fight so well with a sword and he not with a dress. It depends on the specialization.

  • for fucks sake,..

FINE! Nameless is stronger than Flying Snow. happy?

  • Ahahahah. No need to get all angry ;D

*pat pat* You /still/ dont seem to understand what I was getting at. Neither can be said to be stronger than another unless they were to have a serious battle.

  • well, technically they DID have a serious battle and Flying Snow let Nameless kill her. That's gotta count for something right? :P

  • She "let" him kill her.

Thats why I said /serious/ battle.

    :DD

  • EXACTLY! she LET him 'kill' her. That means that if she hadn't he wouldn't have been able to kill her hence why Nameless had to ask Broken Sword and Flying Snow to LET him 'kill' them. :P Mwahaahaahaaaa

  • Perhaps you'd be right if she was truly killed. It was an act to play out so that he could make up a story to defeat the king.

Therefore, you /still/ have not won this argument (: keep trying. This is amusing.

  • AH! but the thing is that Sky was stronger than Nameless (as said in the movie) and Flying Snow and Broken Sword were stronger than Sky so therefore Flying Snow HAD to be stronger than Nameless, hence my defeat in this pathetic argument over unnecessary details. YAY! *phew* tired now.

  • Wow you're still arguing with me *claps* excellent. This is quite amusing. Considering I don't remember the movie much since I last watched it years ago, and was basing logic and theory on this video itself, I would say neither has won.

  • ok, fine. let's just agree that we'll never know who is stronger.......

    ('m still right though XP)

  • As I stated before, neither of us has won. And if you continue to disagree that you've won, I'm tired of this endless conversation that is getting nowhere. I can only conclude you are quite arrogant <3

  • oh, no im not arrogant. Just ridiculously stubborn :D

  • So am I, wow, this is exciting. This is actually the first argument that has gone on this long.

  • I know! We took up nearly 2 whole pages!!!

So what now? Be friends or enemies??

  • whats the music in this scene called?

  • i wonder what the producer said to them on this scene? ok so all you two have to do is jump around and wave your arms and legs like crazy, got it?

  • this is called action movie..nice tune too..thanks for the video..

  • does anyone know if there is a clip of the water fight?

  • I liked this movie. Most of the newer kung-fu movies and kinda bad and to over the top (Which this one is obviously over the top but...) but this movie was good.

  • 秦人的箭和弩就这么弱???

    两个人是火星来的??

  • escribe en español =) ajaja

    konnichiwa!

  • Itzhak Perlman's violin plays the best hero in this movie

  • y did jet lee sacrificed himself in the movie.. if nyone knows plz reply me...

  • #SPOILER#

    Dear Rajumadhur,

At the end of the movie, Nameless (Jet Li) is killed by the Qin Royal Guard, in a beautiful scene.

We could say that he sacrifices himself, since he stand motionless, watching the Qin army arrows incoming (we can assume he would be able to repel them all, somehow), but he doesn't "commit suicide", if this is what you were taling about.

Probably, his mission itself (the atempt to kill the King of Qin) would have anyway ended with his death.

    Anyhow, I think he's a hero!

  • hey thanks for replying me..

  • No problem!

    Have a nice day. ^^

  • Simply put, if nameless killed the king of Qin, China would not be unified (by Qin) and more innocent people would have to suffer the on going wars between the seperate kingdoms. The king of Qin was a prominent historical figure in Chinese history and he was said to be a cold-blooded tyrant. The movie and characters like nameless is fictional.

  • he sacrifised himself to protect the highest ideal "peace" ALL UNDER HEAVEN...the three words....

  • Qin Emperor was a tyrant but he was trying to unify China at the time, China was a bunch of states warring against each other before he unified them all. Jet Lee's character decides that having a tyrant unifying China under one rule is better than a whole lot of squabbling states-(Peace is always better than War) The commoners would at least not suffer as much...

  • "-(Peace is always better than War)"

Uh-huh. And let the book-burning begin.

  • i saw you comment this b4, i agree with your point of view

  • what the ending meant was that the Qin emperor was the only one who could bring peace. assasinating him would not bring ultimate peace. Jet Lee's character sacrificed himself to prove that point.

  • I LOVE this film.

    It's incredibly beautiful.

And the geezer with the beard's a bit phwoooaaarrr.

  • i love that violin..

  • because of this film, and crouching tiger.. alot of other films are paying more close attention to color usage, costume design, scenary set up, music to create an overall mood piece that makes the scenes alot more powerful

  • @haiyah6 it is....in my theater class we are watchin this anh what colors are used nd how they are used also wat it symbolizes

  • @haiyah6 "Kagumusha" 1980

  • hmmm write or fight, what a wuss!

  • you guys are not used to chinese martial art film... tht is why some of u find this sort of movie funny.

  • This movie is awsome. The way there is a specific color for certain scenes makes it really artsy and cool.

  • fix the fucking frames per second

  • i agree, what a moron to post something that's broken

  • I LOVE this movie, especially the music.

  • omg when you write on a big paper with an oversized pen, theres gonna be wind for dramatic effect lol. love it 10/10

  • its fucking awsome best asian movie i have ever seen and it didnt win one fucking oscare

  • @jack29292

it won for best foreign film that year

  • @NEOexSOLDIER fuck yes

  • Oh my.. I'm so hot right now.... That's just.. amazing.

  • greatest foreign film ever

  • You have no imagination lol.

  • Don't look at it like how it actually happened. It's like 300, the Persians were all monsters and ugly because a Spartan was telling the story. Jet Li is telling this one so he would have wanted her to look amazing, and wanted the fights to look extravagant because when you're in a fight every block, dodge, counter all looks so superhuman and extravagant.... to you.

  • THIS IS BEUTIFUL

  • this whole movie..mann..this was one of my favorite scenes..which is hard to pick. jet li and flying snow were raw up on the roof..but broken sword in the school doing the calligraphy..mann..

  • BEAUTIFUL. i love broken sword's hair. it looks so soft..

  • I just love that flute music. There is something about it that invokes the inner awakening and longing within me.

  • what a beutifull scene, no wonder even tarantino, had to bow, to this awesome project, and the music, just mind blowing !

  • I wonder if the archers are ever like "Wtf, why does this NEVER WORK?!?"

  • haha

  • what are they shouting, and what does it means. Zhao? mabey Mao :)

  • yo asss.

    jk.

  • this is so fucking beautiful!! Everything, from the scene to the colours to the melody to the choreography. This is heaven in making movie

  • YES!

  • about the impossible jumping, I think this film is more artistic than realistic and that is one of it's strenghts. it's a really beautiful movie and a work of art. Jet Li's best btw =P

  • I just wonder how many trees they cut down to make so many arrows.

  • Most were probably CGI

  • Flyiong Snow allways remember me of Lulu [FF X]....

  • we share the same thought my friend =)

  • one of the most beutiful movies i ever seen

  • i agree with you!

  • @SpCmT or one of the cheesyest

  • about the only part in the film i didn't really like. it's beautiful to watch don't get me wrong but i didn't like it as much as some of the other parts in the film.

  • the way they jump around like they are on the moon spolis the film

  • that's kind of what makes wire-fu exactly what it is.

  • Wish my robe sleeves could do that.

  • Quite possibly the most beautifully filmed scene I've ever seen in my life. Like a painting come alive.

  • incredible cello music from Yo-Yo Ma...he did the music for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon too.

  • jet lie is the best fighter ever he is me idol

  • Sheer hotness....

  • That was crazy as hell.

  • A visual feast, although qiute impossible.

  • Whats the name of the music playing from 56 seconds to the end of the video? Thanks.

  • Improbably and insanely beautiful.

  • What does the calligraphy means?

  • our land

  • actually, the literal translation is "all under Heaven." I don't know why the translators decided on "our land" because that has a wholly different meaning.

  • Not such a big difference in this context, but yea, it's a dumb translation.

  • Wait, the calligraphy is one word, "sword", ffs.

  • yeah you're right. I didn't bother watching the vid before answering. I thought the other poster was referring to the words Broken Sword drew in the sand.

  • the calligraphy here actually means "sword."

  • Can you upload the whole movie???

  • well basicly the movie is about 4 assians that want to kill the king years before 3 of the assians attempt and nearly Seceed but the king tells one of the assians somthing and he dosent kill the king years later 3 of the assians decided to get killed for the greater good to kill the king the other assain gets with in striking distance but the king tells him the same thing he told the other one and he can not kill the king instead chooses to be killed by his own blade

  • i dont understand wat the movie is about, or anything bout it, its too confusing, I just like watching it, very artistic and music is great!

  • The story is nameless(jet li) killing 3 famous fighters whom the king is afraid of. After the fail assassination by those fighters, the king did not take off his armour for years and did not allow anyone more than 100 pace near him... GO READ IT AT WIKIPEDIA!

  • rember the 3 powerful warriors well the fights r fake or never happened jet li was really in allegience with em they plotted to having jet li assassinate the qin king they were from a rival kingdom but the warrior the one with the broad sword told jet li not to cuz even tho they r from rival kingdoms qin will unify china n bring peace which explains y jet li dropped the sword at the end n got shot by arrows

  • this movie was ok not one of jet lis hits it tries its best to be like crouching tiger hidden dragon i am a BIG jet li fan i have nothing against him i just dont prefer it though

  • Just the music alone is serious! This is one of the best scenes in the movie!!!

  • Checkout my site if you never seen this EXTENDED SCENE YET...

  • Jet Li rox!!!!!!!

  • I liked how Broken Sword fused his energy into the calligraphy with the wind blowing into his hair. (It's a really powerful scene). Calligraphy is one of the seven traditional arts practiced at the time of the warring states.

  • You translated the english wrong. Nameless was referring to the Flying Snow under the alias of "Flowing water". He's calling her:" Master Flowing water". Broken sword's alias in the Kingdom of Zhao is called "High Mountain", so the two of them is "High Mountain Flowing Water".

  • this is my favorite movie ever...

  • Jet Li is the man!! i havent seen the movie but im a huuge fan of Jet Li's!!

  • The score makes this part of the movie more intense...

  • ty for this...It's a cool scene

  • plezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz comment n rate this video......
